My Black Friday 2014 Scores

Hi! I hope everyone who celebrated had a marvelous Thanksgiving. I think this one was the best one yet. The food was wonderful. Seeing all of my family was great. My sister and I took a set of outfit pictures together (sneak peak posted on Instagram today). And now I am recuperating after shopping this morning. I used to go at midnight with my girlfriends (missed you Bridge!) but have not in the last two years. Instead I slept in for a bit and then hit a few stores. I usually like to go to Target the best. Honestly, the last two years I have gotten there after nine in the morning to find the store less insanely busy and the items that I want still in stock. I really only want the DVD deals and the gift card deal they ran this morning so it was not worth the hassle of staying up all night. Here is what I picked up today, in stores and online, these codes and prices are good for today, November 28, 2014, only:

At Anthropologie, I bought a Buttered Rum Candle and their Fanned Feather Necklace with their extra 25% off today using code HOLIDAY25. I know, that is boring. But there is nothing there that I have to have right now, especially since I decided to keep:

This Tartan Sweatercoat. Love of my life. I just adore this piece. I was going to have my husband give it to me for Christmas, but I obviously could not wait. The outfit post for this will be going up next week, but I wanted to show a bit of it now in case you wanted to see it while the sale was still going on.

At Target I picked up all of these movies for around $60. Whoot! And yes, my emotional state and movie choices are obviously that of a thirteen year old. I have no excuse… Or shame.

Restoration Hardware has their duvet slippers which are my favorite slippers to wear and to give for $16 today.

I went to my favorite local boutique, because they were doing 50% off the entire store and bought a few goodies.

Finally, I wanted to write that I have been stalking the Millie Dress at Anthropologie in black and the same dress in blue at Modcloth for the last few days after I saw someone on Instagram wearing it. It reminded me of my favorite swing dress that I have ever seen that Atlantic Pacific wore awhile back. I was hoping that Black Friday would bring about a sale on the dress at one of those stores. It did not. However, I found out that the dress is by Dear Creatures and so I looked for it on their website. I found it and got it in both colors with their Black Friday discount code DCBLACKFRIDAY for 40% off. I just wanted to share that this shop is doing a Black Friday sale of 40% off their new arrivals and free shipping over $100. My dress was an amazing price going directly through the designer. They have a lot of pieces being sold at other retails for much more at a better price on their direct website today.

Did you shop this Black Friday? I ended up getting much more for my kids and relatives online that I cannot write about here. I tackled a lot of my Christmas list. Did you score anything? Thank you for the sweet comments on my post earlier today. I will be responding to all of your comments tonight. You filled my heart with happiness. Thank you. How was your Thanksgiving? Are you drained the next day like I am? I can never figure out if it is the turkey or the bottle of wine I consumed the previous day that leaves me with dark circles and bleary eyes.

*This post is going up in leu of tomorrow’s Littlest Things post. I must clean this house! I will have a new post up on Sunday. Have a beautiful Saturday!

Moroccan Shag Pillows

The week before we went on vacation, I had stumbled upon a delightful surprise. These Nate Berkus Moroccan Shag Pillows. They are from Target. They are sold out online, however, the website was saying they were sold out when I looked them up right after I purchased them, too. This leads me to believe that some stores might still have them.

20140628-185343.jpg

I had been wanting these pillows for months. But the day I decided to get them in the middle of May, they were gone. Two weeks later, I found them again. Someone had returned them. I was not going to let them be sold out from under me again.

I love the black and white pattern in the room that is full of color. It is a nice contrast. And the shag effect on them makes them feel soft. I had to replace the pillows that used to be on the chairs. They had become too worn. And the Rabbit Pillows I purchased a few months ago, have been a little dog-handled. I need to fix the pompoms or cut them off completely.

I will say the insert in this pillow is not the best. The pillow is stiff because of that, but for $25, that is to be expected. The pillow does not have a zipper so it is not possible (without some work) to change its insert.

Do you have a thing for pillows? I cannot get enough.

It’s The Little Things: Predict A Pen

20140430-154937.jpg

The other day found me in the aisles of Target mindlessly shopping for three events I had to attend that weekend. Most of the space in my cart was being taken up by cartons of Wondra and twenty four rolls of paper towels I had found on sale. You can never have enough paper towels. Or Wondra. Or toilet paper. But that’s a story for another day.

There is an aisle in Target that is so random. So wonderful. I can’t stand how much I like this aisle. Imagine an aisle similar to Spencer’s Gifts. Or an aisle in Target created by Fred and George Weasley using Muggle items. Or if Andy had grown up and instead of collecting cowboy dolls and slinky dogs, he preferred naughty little paperclips. Well, he would find those in this aisle. It is an aisle of mischief. And it is my favorite.

So, there I was standing in that aisle, with glittering, magnificent crap items all calling my name. I wanted to give each object its due attention, but I was immediately drawn to two things.

A beautiful sky blue flask.

And a pen that was similar to a magic eight ball. You pressed it to activate the pen part and it revealed an answer at the same time.

Now, if you know me, you know that this decision was a no-brainer. Well, and also, this post was not titled, “Beautiful Flask.”

Of course I was going to go for the Predict A Pen.

But what if I told you the flask had a goldfish in the center of all of that blue?

Well, a goldfish on a flask is exactly equal to a magic eight ball pen.

In case you ever come across this scenario or were just wondering.

I decided to let fate decide.

And by this, I mean I parked my shopping cart in the middle of that magical muggle aisle of nonsense and decided to ask the Predict A Pen.

“Am I going to win the lottery?”

Okay. I know that was not the question. But if you have a pen that is giving you the answers to the future in your hand, you don’t start small. No baby steps here.

“It’s Unclear, Ask Again.”

So I did.

“If you’re lucky.”

Hmmmm. Is Predict A Pen messing with me?

I asked the question a final time.

“Not for a million dollars.”

Okay. Now I knew the mystic pen was messing with me.

I liked it.

I decided to ask it the burning question. And give new meaning to the phrase, “Ink or Swim.”

“Predict A Pen, should I buy you instead of Goldfish Flask?”

“Jenni!”

I looked up. Coming towards me was a sweet woman and her family. I had a flask with a goldfish painted on it, in one hand. And a magic eight ball pen, in another. And I was having the entire conversation above. Outloud. To myself. With inanimate objects.

I said to the approaching woman, “I’m holding a fish flask!” I like to state the obvious in an uncomfortable situation. I guess it could be worse. I could have said, “I carried a watermelon!”

I immediately set the flask back down on the shelf.

I had a sweet conversation with the woman and then I made my way to the checkout.

I was wondering to myself if that woman must think I am crazy.

I looked down at my hand and flipped it over to reveal Predict A Pen’s answer.

It said, “Without a doubt.”

20140430-155012.jpg

And that is why I do not have a flask with a tacky tastefully decorated goldfish on it in my purse. And that is why you will find me around town talking to a small black pen in my hand. Completely sober. And that is why my children will not go out with me.

Predict A Pen has none all of the answers. He even has the appropriate response to most of my crazy observations.

20140430-154823.jpg

Who could compete with that?. Poor Goldfish Flask never stood a chance.

It’s the little things: an inanimate object with an attitude that can perform multiple tasks. In other words, my new best friend.

“Gosh. Is there something wrong with me?”

20140430-154858.jpg

* Predict A Pen is just a fun little novelty. It cannot really tell the future (that I know of). I feel the need to state this as not all of us are muggles. In which case, this pen would have been an incredible deal! Sorry. You will have to go to Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes for the real deal. The above link is an affiliate link. Purchasing the pen through the link provides this muggle blog a small commission.

Target In January

I recently went to Target. As I do. When I want to buy a mindless variety of unnecessary items.

The reason I had gone there was because in my rummaging cleaning, I found 4 gift cards totaling $100 to Target in my drawer. They were given to me over the last few months as my kids would get them as gifts and then order something off of Amazon and pay me with their Target gift cards. I didn’t mind. I knew I would use them. Or lose them. Whichever came first. I decided to get on using them before I forgot.

With the holidays just recently being over and it being the beginning of the year, a lot of us are not spending money. I wanted to show some inexpensive options Target is offering right now, in case you wanted something new, but did not want a high price tag to struggle with.

20140120-213720.jpg

I didn’t mean to go to the clothing section. Cross my heart. But that is where I ended up. And I saw the best shirt. Seriously. Run. Don’t walk. And go get yourself this shirt. The only sizes left in black at our Target were XS and Large. I bought a Large for myself (fits perfectly) and an XS for my daughter (now you see why they don’t mind paying me with their gift cards).

The shirt is $16.99 and so similar to the more expensive shirts in my wishlist. See here. And here. Plus, you get 5% off if you use their Target Red Debit Card. It also came in the prettiest seafoam green color. But I needed a black shirt. The back has the pretty key-hole.

20140120-213754.jpg

Does this remind you of anything? How about my Ruffled Hem Pullover? This was less than 1/4 of that price?! I do like my Anthropologie sweater better. The back is more detailed. But this Target sweater was a great price. At $20, this was a nobrainer and my daughter got one, too. I bought the medium in this although I think I could have even gotten a large. It matches my AG Stevies Cords perfectly.

20140120-213124.jpg

And this awesome poncho pullover is so cool! At $20, it is simple to throw on. It is the easiest black and white stripes. Goes with so much. It covers the bum. Another steal. Another win for Target. By the way, I have no idea what is on my thigh. I had put those pants on for the very first time five minutes prior to this pic.

20140120-181428.jpg

I did not buy either of these sweaters. Not at Anthropologie. Not at Target. I do not own a French Bulldog, so it wasn’t for me. There was a popback of this sweater at Anthropologie last week and I would have ended up paying the same amount as the Target price. But I didn’t need it. So I didn’t buy it.

I just have to say… Umm. I’m not sayin’ this is a blatant copy of Anthropologie’s sweater. What do you think? Wink. If you missed it at Anthropologie, Target’s copy is $20.

20140120-213903.jpg

20140120-213927.jpg

Gnomes!!! Look at these little darlings. I love ’em. I want to marry them. I want to rub their cold little hard bodies all over my cheeks. I want to… Okay. Let’s quit there. $4 a piece (just the 4 crackled versions in the pot). Adorable.

20140120-213836.jpg

And a big one to greet folks at the door. I only wish they had two more of him.

20140120-215513.jpg

And a sad, sad little fellow. He looked so forlorn, I had to take him home to cheer him up. He still isn’t happy. I have a feeling he never will be. But he is a pretty color. Blue. Just like his heart.

20140120-213601.jpg

This awesome crockpot was marked down from $35 to $17.48. How cool is it? I cannot wait to use it!

Have you been to Target lately? Do you always walk away with more than you came for? The buyers there are doing it right!
