Outfits Last Week

I wanted to do a Halloween outfit post, but I never got around to it. This is what I wore last week. Although two of them, I will continue to wear all season.

Mother’s Jeans is my very favorite brand of jeans. I bought these “friends in high places” (which after describing all of the different animal’s accessories further in this paragraph, I am wondering if that was a play on words) pair at Nordstrom Rack for something like 70% off. I cannot remember exactly because I believe I bought these in July. I could not wait to wear them in the fall and winter. The design is so much fun. Amidst the swirls and gold shapes, there is a rabbit smoking a hookah, a mystic owl, two different foxes (one smoking a pipe and the other standing stoically). I could not love these more! I took my regular size 29 in these.

I paired the pants with Anthropologie’s Ruffled Hem Pullover. I love the pattern mixing. I borrowed my daughter’s fox necklace from Charming Charlies. I will wear this outfit all winter. It is one of my favorites.

This Free People Manina Colorblock Skirt (still on fantastic sale and still available in all sizes as of this writing) is perfect for the season. Last time I paired it with my black t-shirt. I do not own a long sleeve back sweater or shirt. I paired it instead with my H & M mustard layering top. These are such great little tops at $13. I purchased my usual medium. I ended up purchasing the Corallina Necklace on sale as I watched its quantities sell out. I am so glad I did, because it is a great necklace at the sale price.

And for Halloween I wore my t-shirt I bought five years ago at a boutique and never wore. I paired it with my Anthropologie Citizens of Humanity Anja Maxi Denim. The necklace is my daughter’s from Charming Charlie’s.

What did you wear this week? Anything fun or scary? I bought a gnome costume to wear to a Halloween party, but then did not end up going to either of the parties we were invited to. So I have not even tried it on yet. If I do, I will post pics. We are a bit too laid back around here.

Sketchbook Shirt Dress

I adore the Sketchbook Shirt Dress from Anthropologie. It fits like a dream. It has hidden fortresses amongst shadowed forrests. If you look closely, you can see a gnome.

Not really, but that would be awesome.

The lining of the dress is a pretty purple.

I am wearing a size 6 here. I have recently learned that this is probably the size I should be buying. But I am still finding my way in sizing. So I might really be an 8. I am sorry! I hope I can be a better help in the future in terms of sizing. I still think it runs a little big.

I wanted a picture of the dress sitting down. But then I was accosted by my dog. And the dress rode up. I had to edit it. Imagine I can take a good picture.

Have you tried on this dress? How did you feel about sizing? I would like to know if I am off. Do you have a fun, whimsical piece in your closet?

Overalls?

I will admit it. This is my very first pair of overalls. Well, maybe I had a pair when I was four or five, but I have long since forgotten. When I was pregnant with both of my children, I longed to be the pregnant girl in overalls. Alas, I am not one of those girls that is cute whilst pregnant (and, no, I am not pregnant. That would be impossible, just so ya know). And so I skipped over them. Never bought them, but enviously stared at those who did.

I started seeing them pop up again. And I started stewing. Then I saw that picture on the Pottery Barn Teen catalog and my interest grew. The final straw was when Free People offered a distressed corduroy pair in the gold color.

I was sold…Or they were sold…To me. Somethin’ like that.

I have been trying to put together different tops with the overalls. I pretty much want to wear them all of the time. Here is what I created:

20131011-162854.jpg

This is my favorite look. It is a Free People lace shirt I purchased from Nordstrom Rack in the spring. I like it with H & M’s lace flats. The necklace is care of Simply Livly on Etsy.

20131011-163024.jpg

I paired it with a denim jacket. I definitely look rustic here.

20131011-165620.jpg

And a Free People cardigan.

20131011-170052.jpg

I tried the overalls with Anthropologie’s Daydrifter Tee.

20131011-170245.jpg

I also paired it with a striped long sleeve layering top from H & M. I believe this was $14.

20131011-165847.jpg

And went full on country farm girl with a Johnny Was flannel shirt and vintage boots. The turquoise necklace is from Simply Livly on Etsy.

20131011-165944.jpg

This sweater was purchased last winter at Forever 21. I think it was $15. I have a mad crush on it.

I bought this top with my mother-in-law during my Nordstrom Rack birthday spree. It is made by Free People. I could never find it on their site. And I did look. The color is my favorite paired with mustard. The earrings are from Anthropologie many years ago.

And because I could not help myself. And because he wanted a ride. And maybe because I am more than a tad bit crazy…I put a little gnome in my overalls. My husband refused to go out with me like this. The wee little fellow was sad. ; )

So, what do you think of the overall trend? And would you have gone shopping with me and my little gnome friend (he was made by the lovely Moongoat on Etsy

Let’s Talk Fun Deals

This outfit post is going to be a bit different this week. It is going to show some of my deals I got last week, as well as an “old” dress I adore from H & M. Because of this shopping trip, I had to cancel a certain sweater tunic I had been longing for. No regrets! I definitely got more for my money.

Not shown here, but will be shown in future posts are two long sleeve layering tops and a Mickey Mouse top from H & M. Also, two days before I went with my daughter, my husband and I went to Nordstrom Rack because he needed new work shoes. I found the cutest red and black plaid tunic and black pleated tunic on clearance. But that is for another day. I just wanted to include the other items I purchased that replaced the sweater I had previously wanted. Yes, I got all of those items, and the following purchases I made for myself, for less than the cost of that one sweater! Now, on to the deals fun:

20131001-114455.jpg

My daughter and I went shopping for her Homecoming dress together on Thursday night. We ended up scoring one for $16. Yay! (This meant she was free to purchase the cutest flannel shirt with an inlay crochet back that was also on sale.) Before we found that dress at Macy’s, we went to Nordstrom Rack. We did not find any clothes there. However, we browsed their tights section. Hidden in the tights section were tons of tights marked “last chance $1.” You had to flip the package over to find the clearance price sticker. If you have a Nordstrom Rack near you, I would go check. This was just six days ago.

20131001-114427.jpg

I got my daughter a pair of Kate Spade blue tights originally marked $32 for $1.

20131001-114524.jpg

All in all, we scored 8 pairs of tights (my daughter was wearing one the day I took the above photo) for $14.74. Two of the packages were “only” clearanced to $4. One was $1.74. But we both needed a basic black pair. They had tons more clearance $1 tights hidden in the tights section.

20131001-114556.jpg

At H & M, I found these awesome layered bohemian bracelets (the strands are connected. I am wearing them all). They were marked $10, but rang up for $5. Plus, they were doing buy two get one free. I purchased five bracelets and one ring for my daughter (which I was told was very Pokemon) for $21 (originally $61).

20131001-131424.jpg

I paired the bracelets with a white sleep shirt I had scored with my daughter at Macy’s ($10 originally $28). I just layered a white tank underneath it and tied it. I had slept in the shirt the night before. Yes. I can get lazier.

20131001-131616.jpg

20131001-131514.jpg

I cannot wait to wear this Kenneth Cole necklace I got from Macy’s for $16 (originally $48). I just tried it on with the white shirt. Notice, I was too lazy to take off my bracelets while doing so. So I just hid my hands behind my back.

20131001-131228.jpg

And last week I wore an H & M dress I purchased with my husband on an anniversary trip four or five years ago. I had it hidden in my closet all of these years. It was so fun to discover it again! I paired it with the Coral Latticework Necklace I purchased on sale from Anthropologie last week for $20. I am also wearing vintage boots from the flea market.

What have been your best deals lately? I don’t think there is a bigger rush than saving money!

* And in exact opposite form of what I just said, I will be doing another outfit post this week on a spendy dress on Saturday. I am nothing if not a walking contradiction. Have a great day! : )

P.S. If you want to read a blog that deals specifically with deals and where to find them, I highly recommend Nikki’s blog: Fashion Finds On A Dime. She is very inspiring.
