Marrying Colors

IMG_1278.JPG

I didn’t always like green and pink together.

IMG_1284.JPG

I remember when we were house hunting thirteen years ago and we walked into a home with pink wall to wall carpet and green walls. We were young and could not see past the sunset shaggy forrest of bad taste.

We probably missed out on a good house.

But you live and you learn.

IMG_1280.JPG

So I was surprised when I pulled this sweater (from Anthropologie and sold out last year, but I think this ruffle hem sweater is pretty, too) and these pants together out of the closet. Yes, surprised. What? Do you go into the closet knowing what happy clothing marriage you will be officiating each day? Well, I usually don’t. It is usually a whirlwind outfit elopement around here.

And, oh my goodness, I have loved my Citizens Of Humanity velveteen pants since I purchased them last year (sold out, but available in a different color here). They are the prettiest pink. They used to be a bit looser. But ’tis the way it is. My mouth likes to be married to chocolate.

IMG_1277.JPG

There are some marital colors I have never disliked together.

Them being chocolatey brown and golden caramel.

Sigh.

Treats would not look as precious and delicious if they were green or pink.

Or would they?

Never mind. I would probably still crave it. And marry it.

I do.

What are your favorite color pairings? Do they ever stray to another color? I wore my green sweater earlier in the week with some black pants. Shhhh. It wasn’t a big deal. No need to tell my pink pants. They’re trying to support my chocolate habit. They have enough on their plate mate.

Hippie At Home

I know I promised pictures of me not in front of my fireplace (Sunday, I have some outdoor outfit pictures to post) , but I wanted to show what I look like on a day when I am kicking back at home. And I actually have clothes on and not pajamas.

Wrinkled. Shoeless. Beltless. Happy. Cooking.

I knew the moment I took my apron off, I was going to get flack from my husband. You think he would not give the woman making him his favorite meal grief, but you would think wrong. ; )

You see, he hates long denim skirts. Hates them. And, well, I… I love them!

So, never the two shall meet.

But I wanted to share my Forever 21 Peasant Top that I adore. And I thought it fit perfectly with my Citizens of Humanity Aja Skirt I purchased from a seller on eBay last year. I had it tailored for my body, so I know it fits the way it is supposed to… Big!

Here is the commentary coming from my photographer as I tried to smile for the camera:

20140422-212333.jpg

“That skirt is ginormous!”

I was not phased.

20140422-212545.jpg

“That skirt is Duggarific!”

An explanation of this word my husband gleefully made up, derives from one of my favorite shows on t.v., “Nineteen Kids And Counting” (their last name is Duggar. I love the Little House On The Prairie vibe to it even though their lifestyle and choices are very far from mine). My husband is sometimes trapped in the room when I watch the show. The women all wear long skirts. A lot of the time they are denim, because they do not wear pants. Or short skirts.

This brings this question to my mind, “If a long denim skirt is the opposite of sexy, how the heck did they have nineteen kids?”

Hmmmmmm.

20140422-212634.jpg

“Be careful, you might expose your ankles!”

20140422-212443.jpg

To which I did this.

20140422-212511.jpg

And then this.

Yep. It was a typical day in the Gnome Lover household. And this model is going to go add a little something extra to that meat on the stove.

Just kidding. That little somethin’ would just be love. My husband and I have a good time. Just don’t tell him that.

Do you have an item in your closet your partner does not like? Do you wear it anyway? Do you wear shoes at home?

* Please excuse my wild hair! It was a day at home. And, yes, I see that hair brush on my fireplace. It is my daughter’s. It never occurred to me to use it. ; ). It’s hard to think when you’re bein’ heckled.

My Homage to Gwen Via Grey & Pink

When I saw Gwen of London Preppy sporting pink and grey together so swimmingly, I knew I had to try it. I literally tore through my closet and yanked anything I had in those two colors. Then I looked at my mess, got overwhelmed and shoved it all back. But the obsession was still in the back of my mind. As it always is with Gwen. I adore her. : )

In the meantime, the Citizens of Humanity Avedon Velvet Leggings got discounted 68% (I received the additional 25% that is no longer going on). I had been stalking them for months in the antique pink color. I quickly used my last gift card on them and the MiH Casablanca petite flares. I ordered my typical size 29. I usually size down to a 28 in leggings and stretchy pants, but based on the other reviews I stuck with my usual size and I am glad I did.

The top left picture in the foursome is from the Anthropologie website. The pants seems to take on both hues.

Anyway, I love them. I could serenade them all day on this blog, but that is not what this post is about. However, I do want to mention that they are the best pants I bought this season in case you are on the fence.

So, I paired them with my grey Puckered Placket Turtleneck I scored last year for $20. And my Ruffled Sweater Vest (I told you I wear this all of the time). Then I topped it off with some tiny fox earrings from H & M. And my Faye Boots from Christmas.

I feel so thirty-six in this outfit. You know. My age. Except for the whimsical earrings, this outfit does not feel like me. But I love it. Isn’t great to have more than one personality?

Then I had an idea for my Chiara Chemise. Why not pair it with some pink tights? Hmmm. Why not? Eh? Why not? I still can’t hear you. Let me turn down my thighs.

The Pom Pom Necklace is from Fable And Lore on Etsy.

Is there time for one more? I scooped up these grey Pilcro Ankle Zip Cords when they went half off and then another 25%. So I believe they were $37. I have one pink top in my closet (previously worn here). I did not know how it would look together, but I figured I would try it.

I wasn’t sure. So, I plopped my black Ruffle Sweater Vest over it. Ahhhh. Much better.

Thank you again Gwen for the outfit inspiration! Keep ’em coming. I need all of the help I can get over here!

Have you paired pink and grey together? What is your favorite color combo to wear? I need ideas!

Outfits Last Week

I wanted to do a Halloween outfit post, but I never got around to it. This is what I wore last week. Although two of them, I will continue to wear all season.

Mother’s Jeans is my very favorite brand of jeans. I bought these “friends in high places” (which after describing all of the different animal’s accessories further in this paragraph, I am wondering if that was a play on words) pair at Nordstrom Rack for something like 70% off. I cannot remember exactly because I believe I bought these in July. I could not wait to wear them in the fall and winter. The design is so much fun. Amidst the swirls and gold shapes, there is a rabbit smoking a hookah, a mystic owl, two different foxes (one smoking a pipe and the other standing stoically). I could not love these more! I took my regular size 29 in these.

I paired the pants with Anthropologie’s Ruffled Hem Pullover. I love the pattern mixing. I borrowed my daughter’s fox necklace from Charming Charlies. I will wear this outfit all winter. It is one of my favorites.

This Free People Manina Colorblock Skirt (still on fantastic sale and still available in all sizes as of this writing) is perfect for the season. Last time I paired it with my black t-shirt. I do not own a long sleeve back sweater or shirt. I paired it instead with my H & M mustard layering top. These are such great little tops at $13. I purchased my usual medium. I ended up purchasing the Corallina Necklace on sale as I watched its quantities sell out. I am so glad I did, because it is a great necklace at the sale price.

And for Halloween I wore my t-shirt I bought five years ago at a boutique and never wore. I paired it with my Anthropologie Citizens of Humanity Anja Maxi Denim. The necklace is my daughter’s from Charming Charlie’s.

What did you wear this week? Anything fun or scary? I bought a gnome costume to wear to a Halloween party, but then did not end up going to either of the parties we were invited to. So I have not even tried it on yet. If I do, I will post pics. We are a bit too laid back around here.
