Christmas Ornaments

20131207-212300.jpg

Am I the only one with an ornament hoarding problem? I hope not! I cannot resist a cute ornament. It is beginning to be a problem. In fact, we now have so many ornaments, we have had to get not one, but two Christmas trees each year. The second tree is very small (for now).

I just need companies to stop making such cute ornaments.

As soon as the kids are out of the house, we can cypher out the Spongebobs, Littlest Pet Shops, and Pixar characters. That’s what I tell myself anyway. I might feel bad leaving the little guys in the box, though.

This year, I shopped for my ornaments at Anthropologie and Target. I love them all. I thought I would show the ornaments I picked up for our trees this year (which we shall be picking out today).

Hello Mr. Fox. This little guy can be found at Anthropologie. I purchased him during the 20% off sale. He was spendy, but he might be my favorite purchased ornament of all time.

These felted ornaments were all purchased at Target this year with price tags no higher than $3.

It is a mouse. It is a ballerina. It is a ballerina mouse. This reminds me of The Nutcracker. Much to my son’s chagrin, we are going as a family to see this ballet in a few weeks. Hopefully when it is over, this little gal will bring back fond memories. And yes, Momma is gonna wear a tulle skirt. What else?

And these little merry foxes. They reminded me of a morph between a gnome and a fox. I think it was their large squat heads. Could not resist!

What is your favorite ornament this year? Please tell me I am not alone in my overrun collection. What type of ornament can you not resist? Or if you do not celebrate with ornaments, what is your favorite holiday decoration each year?

I guess mine would be a fox. A gnome, obviously. I have so many of those. I am doing a Christmas decorations post next week and then we can spotlight those little guys.

And mushrooms.

And fantasy creatures.

And anything felted.

And animals.

And ornaments made by my children.

Oh, dear. I really do have a problem.

Critters on my shirts and skirts
My shoes are jealous*

I did not even realize that most of my outfits lately have revolved around critters. Or creatures. Or things with faces on them, until I went to pull some photos for recent outfits. Wow! Lots of animals! Okay, two out of the three are owls. So, it is a small selection in the animal kingdom. Here are some I have worn lately:

I waited patiently for this owl pullover (the Wisened Pullover from Anthropologie) to make it to sale. And it did! And I wisely grabbed it. I paired it with my JBrand Moto Skinny Jeans I bought for $20 a few weeks ago (regularly $240!). The earrings are Lucky Brand found on clearance at Macy’s.

I bought this owl skirt on a great sale from Anthhropologie last year. I paired it with my striped shirt from H & M. I bought my Lucky Brand Boots during an amazing sale a few weeks ago at Piperlime. They have incredible padding. I wore them all day at ____________ (fill in the blank from the Haiku at the bottom) and felt like I was wearing tennis shoes!

I love my hedgehog Creature Feature Top from Anthropologie. I wear it all of the time. This time I wore it with my brown corduroy cropped pants I purchased about six years ago from Anthropologie on sale.

Do you love animals on your clothes? What is your favorite piece?

* The haiku in the beginning is part of the weekly writing challenge. I started today and will do five Haikus by Friday. Here is one from yesterday (can you guess where we were?):

Crammed onto a bus
Screaming children all around
Just to see a mouse

Pumpkin Patch

20131119-190059.jpg

“I’m late! I’m late! I’m late!” This should be my mantra with all of my posts. I still have to post about meeting Patrick Rothfuss at Comic Con. My post is written, it is just a matter of squeezing things in.

20131119-190150.jpg

And, I went to a pumpkin patch! At the end of October. We buy all of our pumpkins at the local farm. Being a farmer’s daughter (bee farms count, right?), I think it is so important to do so.

First, look at my husband’s dope (yep, usin’ that word) pumpkins he carved after we visited the pumpkin patch. We are starting this post with the end at the beginning result.

20131119-190754.jpg

Of course, I took the prerequisite blogger photos of me amongst a farm setting. ‘Cause that’s what you do. Or what I am thinking you do. So, I wore my bandana dress purchased on sale for $40 during the summer from Anthropologie with an old denim jacket and my vintage Frye cowboy boots. I had to dress the part… Of crazy country girl.

20131119-191010.jpg

It was kind of hilarious, because almost all of the moms at the pumpkin patch were in some kind of get-up. I felt sort of ridiculous as we all trudged through the gravel in our cowboy boots and dresses. I would be willing to bet none of us had ever roped a calf or could even ride a horse.

Suburban Mom. In a pumpkin patch. This is what it looks like, just so you know.

20131119-190639.jpg

I am allergic to pumpkins. And hay. Pumpkin patches = hives for me. But I was careful. I did not touch anything!

This particular pumpkin farm has pigs that they race. It is good, clean fun. I love taking the kids here.

20131119-192258.jpg

There was the petting zoo that I photographed through the fence. They changed the prices this year. It used to be $4 or $5 for the whole family. This year it was $2 a person…Have fun kids!

20131119-192233.jpg

I always appreciate their pretty farm trough to wash your hands in after touching the dirty creatures cute animals. They even use Method soap.

20131119-193019.jpg

There you have it. I went to a pumpkin patch. I watched my kids go into a corn maze. I tried not to panic. And I definitely did not mutter a single, “Yee Haw!” whilst wearing this dress. Not a one. I am lying.

Did you go to a pumpkin patch this year? Did you have fun? Did you get a pumpkin? Are you as behind as I am with these holidays?

Outfits Last Week

I wanted to do a Halloween outfit post, but I never got around to it. This is what I wore last week. Although two of them, I will continue to wear all season.

20131101-231648.jpg

Mother’s Jeans is my very favorite brand of jeans. I bought these “friends in high places” (which after describing all of the different animal’s accessories further in this paragraph, I am wondering if that was a play on words) pair at Nordstrom Rack for something like 70% off. I cannot remember exactly because I believe I bought these in July. I could not wait to wear them in the fall and winter. The design is so much fun. Amidst the swirls and gold shapes, there is a rabbit smoking a hookah, a mystic owl, two different foxes (one smoking a pipe and the other standing stoically). I could not love these more! I took my regular size 29 in these.

I paired the pants with Anthropologie’s Ruffled Hem Pullover. I love the pattern mixing. I borrowed my daughter’s fox necklace from Charming Charlies. I will wear this outfit all winter. It is one of my favorites.

20131101-231753.jpg

20131101-231856.jpg

This Free People Manina Colorblock Skirt (still on fantastic sale and still available in all sizes as of this writing) is perfect for the season. Last time I paired it with my black t-shirt. I do not own a long sleeve back sweater or shirt. I paired it instead with my H & M mustard layering top. These are such great little tops at $13. I purchased my usual medium. I ended up purchasing the Corallina Necklace on sale as I watched its quantities sell out. I am so glad I did, because it is a great necklace at the sale price.

20131101-232054.jpg

And for Halloween I wore my t-shirt I bought five years ago at a boutique and never wore. I paired it with my Anthropologie Citizens of Humanity Anja Maxi Denim. The necklace is my daughter’s from Charming Charlie’s.

What did you wear this week? Anything fun or scary? I bought a gnome costume to wear to a Halloween party, but then did not end up going to either of the parties we were invited to. So I have not even tried it on yet. If I do, I will post pics. We are a bit too laid back around here.
