From India To Me

IMG_2237.JPG

I love to shop Etsy for one of a kind pieces. I especially love embroidered pieces. But I am not picky. I’ll know it when I see it.

And I saw it.

But it was sold out, so I contacted Lisa from Madame Hall on Etsy to see if she would be making any more of the dresses I had seen on her site in a size medium. She did not have any but she sent me a few pictures of this dress laying flat.

And, of course, I loved it.

I bought it (with the help of a gift card from the sweetest lady ever. Thank you B!) and anxiously awaited its arrival.

It came in the coolest package about two weeks later. She sewed the package up with my address on the cloth. Inside of the initial package, the dress was wrapped in another gorgeous embroidered simple cloth bag. And she even sent me a beautiful embroidered scarf as a gift. Truly exceptional service. I would not hesitate to order from her again and to recommend her shop to others.

I was not planning on pairing it with brown boots. In fact, I was going to wear it with my black fringed booties. But the snow would have ruined those. I did need to quickly grab a slip for underneath this because of the length. It is almost more of a tunic than a dress but because it is made from wool, I would only wear this with tights and leggings in the wintertime any way.

The bright cheerful colors just make me so happy.

I feel like this dress was meant to be mine. Or I was meant for it. It only needed to find me half way across the world. From India to me.

IMG_2240.JPG

Do you buy clothing items from Etsy? Do you ever feel a personal connection to an item of clothing? Does it speak to you?

IMG_2239.JPG

Mine does.

I’m not gonna tell you what it says.

IMG_2194.JPG

All right.

Just this once. I’ll spill the beans. Or beads as it were…

IMG_2223.JPG

With a shimmer. A glimmer. A whisper, it breathes, “OHHHHHH YEAAAAAAHHHHHH.”

Or maybe that’s just me.

A Dress Falled With Embroidery

IMG_9558.JPG

My husband and I went on a lunch date on this day. It was not cool enough for the sweater, so I wish I had set it down.

IMG_9556.JPG

I also wish I had more pictures of the dress itself, but my photographer that day was all about the closeups.

I hate closeups.

I love my photographer.

You will just have to bear with me.

IMG_9570.JPG

Or bare with me. Look at the cute Free People bandeau bra (bralette post can be found here) I simply put over a regular bra for a pretty lace peek-a-boo moment.

IMG_9566.JPG

I found this dress at my local Nordstrom Rack for a screaming deal. I could not believe nobody had scooped it up (it is sold out. I could only find one size medium of a similar dress. It is on sale for $30 from $148 on Free People here).

IMG_9565.JPG

The embroidered detail is amazing.

IMG_9557.JPG

I wanted to pair the dress with some wood accessories. I slipped on this Scrabble Ring for a fun solution. If I was a pumpkin latte kind of gal, I would happily drink it in this dress. This dress screams, “fall!”, with its orange and mustard accents.

Alas, I am allergic to pumpkin. So, I will have to get by just wearing the color.

IMG_9562.JPG

I will somehow manage to get through the autumn with regular ol’ coffee.

And closeups of my thirty seven year old face.

Somehow.

The secret is in the sauce a little thing I am grateful to not be allergic to, wine.

IMG_9560.JPG

Did you notice something amiss in the previous closeup picture? Something that did not look right?

Was it a bit creepy?

Was it my elbow?

I am double jointed in my elbows, so sometimes in pictures like those it looks as though my head should be flipped the other way.

Just give it time.

Halloween is coming up.

With pumpkins. And closeups. And weird elbows.

And wine.

It’s enough to make a girl’s head spin. What is making your head spin lately? I am definitely craning my head towards this dress. Are you double jointed? I only have it in my elbows and my thumbs…

And my mind.

It’s The Little Things: The Sweetest Embroidered Hooks

IMG_9825.JPG

Sometime in August, Anthropologie sent me a 20% off code to use in their store for completing a survey they sent me. I spotted these embroidered hooks and I knew they would be perfect towel holders in my Otomi inspired bathroom. I like to mix quirky embroidered pieces with the animal patterned walls.

IMG_9812.JPG

I purchased three out of the four. They arrived and were smaller than I had anticipated. But I loved them so much. Here is a quarter next to them so you can get a good idea of the size.

IMG_9828.JPG

We had to buy the screws for them. They did not come with any.

IMG_9829.JPG

I think they really complete the bathroom. They make me ridiculously happy.

IMG_9823.JPG

They might, perhaps, be my most favorite things I have ever purchased from Anthropologie. And that is saying a lot. They are vintage looking. Outlandish. Fun. And completely go with our house.

I think I would have to fight Phoebe from Friends for them.

I would win.

And Monica would have to clean up the mess.

Then Joey would come up to me and say, “How you doin’?” And I would forget all about my perfect hooks. Which is just what Rachael was hoping for.

Could that be any more accurate?

Ahem.

It’s the little things: finding the perfect small little thing to complete a room. Or just small fuzzy animal faces. They would make anyone happy.

Even Ross.

Have you added anything small to your home lately? Do you have any embroidered pieces? Please share. I would love to hear about it. Don’t worry about Phoebe trying to steal them. I’ve got your back… “I’ll be there for you.”

It’s The Little Things: Etsy Necklaces

I wanted to do a quick little post today highlighting some of my favorite necklaces that I own from Etsy. I have many more items I love from Etsy. And I will highlight those on another day. I just love the creativity that goes on at Etsy. It blows my mind how talented so many people are! I also love that you can purchase from all over the world.

I will admit to being an Etsy addict. I love the whole idea and concept of it. And all of the people I have purchased from been lovely. I do not have the artistic talent to create objects. I admire those who do.

On to the necklaces:

First up is my Simply Livly Turquoise Necklace. It goes with everything. I have even bought some as gifts for friends. I love the jersey tie that can make it longer or shorter. The seller is wonderful. The sweetest.

My mother gifted me with this Animal Totem Necklace from KnitKnit for one of my Christmas presents. I always seem to wear it when my husband is not home and therefore I have no one to take pictures of me wearing it. But I do wear it and I love it!

I just wore my Lunahoo Moon Necklace, yesterday. It is the perfect length. The chain is a gorgeous color. I like that I can pair this necklace with other gold necklaces or even bronzy ones.

Have you ever purchased jewelry from Etsy? Do you make jewelry? Are there other artisans you would recommend that sell jewelry there? Please share.

I will be doing more posts in the next few months highlighting artists, home accessories, more jewelry and vintage items from sellers that I have personally purchased from.

It’s The Little Things: little accessories. And the talent to make them. I love it!
