With A Lighter Heart

20140723-193017.jpg

Sorry for another outfit post. I am trying to get through my summer pictures. My mom will be happy. She loves the outfit posts the most.

I could not recall the name of this dress that I purchased last year. I had originally styled it like Mary on Happily Grey, on my older blog post here, but I had wanted to try it exclusively with gold and pink this time. Make it my own.

I found the name of the dress. And it made me smile, because I had picked this dress out of my closet that day simply to ease a heavy heart.

The dress is called, “With A Light Heart Dress.” I am sure it is sold out by now because when I purchased it in 2013, it was all ready 66% off. I bet it can be found on eBay. I cannot guarantee the light heart, though (I am not linking to a similar dress because I honestly could not find one similar enough to warrant a link and I do not like to add links simply for the sake of clicks).

The necklace is Anthropologie’s Lace Flag Necklace from last year. It is surprisingly hard to find pink jewelry. I am happy I picked this up. The shoes can be found here.

It seems silly, but I was thrilled to get a compliment on this outfit earlier in the day.

A woman stopped me when I was with my son and said, “I like your son-”

And I thought to myself, She likes my son? That is odd.

But then she finished. “I like your son-dals. And your whole outfit is just so cute.”

I thanked her and soared inside, both from the compliment and the fact that my son was not being strangely commented upon.

Another silly thing is this bracelet. I love it. I purchased it from Anthropologie when it hit sale with my husband’s initial. However, it is the only piece of jewelry that has ever turned my skin green.

But I still wear it.

‘Cause green skin is kinda cool. I do like to channel my inner Hulk, after all.

Not really, but I do wear it for short periods of time because I really like the bracelet.

Have you ever had jewelry that turned your skin green? Did you still wear it? Do you compliment strangers? I try to always compliment one elderly woman every time I leave the house. One time I was in an airport and I accidentally kicked the poor lady with my shoe when I tried to tell her I loved her dress. She probably did not appreciate that compliment so much.

I hope I did not give her a green bruise.

Maybe this bracelet is compliment karma.

Or some such light hearted nonsense.

Gothic Lace Cowgirl

I am breaking so many of my boundaries in these pictures.

Wait. Do you break boundaries or cross them?

Whichever it was, all at once, I found them tossed to the wind.

1. Never be photographed in sleeveless.

2. Never wear all dark colors.

3. Never wear braids in the wind.

20140708-223328.jpg

I layered my two Anthropologie Scalloped Monogram Bracelets with my husband and my initials.

And they were the only pieces of jewelry I wore that day.

The gnome doesn’t count, right?

I just had to break my own silly rules when I found this cute Free People Dear Bridgette Lace Top at Nordstrom Rack (I cannot find it online but I found a similar shirt here). It was a steal. I all ready had the skirt (similar here) from early 2013 and the lace maxi slip underneath the whole outfit was a fabulous deal at NR last summer for around $30.

The reason I had only worn bracelets on this day was because I decided to wear one of my fabric flowers I had purchased from a sweet seller at Pike’s Market in Seattle last year.

By the way, do you see why I have no back shots of this outfit? I forgot to have my husband button the back of my shirt!

Aw, well, you break some rules and everything just falls apart.

20140708-223405.jpg

I had mentioned in a post last week that I never wear black, because I think it is hard to make it look cheerful. But this outfit made me happy that day.

I am branching out.

Kicking my heels up, so to speak.

20140708-223621.jpg

Or boots, as it were.

Do you have any silly fashion rules? Have you ever broken them? Have you ever spent the whole day with your shirt or dress completely unbuttoned?

Yea, me neither.

Sunset Skirt At Sunset

I am at Comic Con again today and so I decided to share some outfit pictures from our vacation to Maui that somehow never made the cut. I think it was because I was burnt out about talking about that trip.

By the way, this skirt is Free People’s Colorblock Skirt and I love it. I previously wore it here.

What did you do this weekend? Did it involve the beach? I am traversing around a convention center with giant blisters on my heels and looking for new art. Wish me luck! : )

P.S. I think the gnome hidden on this one is pretty tricky. Did you spot it?

Lemon Fields

20140625-192540.jpg

Lemon wine
Thir-ty seven
A day without kids
I ate everything.

Isn’t that catchy? I think it is the next big hit.

20140625-192653.jpg

Actually, I did not go to a lemon field. And I had neither lemon wine nor wore lemon or wine on this day, but I did visit a vineyard. I wore a lemon color and I drank enough wine to lead me to believe that this post should be entitled, “Lemon Wine” and then promptly changed my bleary mind. Does that count?

20140625-192722.jpg

When my husband and I visited this vineyard, our children had embarked upon a weeklong camping trip with their grandparents. We were footloose and family free.

We ate so much I got sick.

I would say drank, but both the waiter and myself concurred that it must be the food and not the wine that had my head spinning. Who am I to argue with an expert?

20140625-192841.jpg

Speaking of spinning, I spun through their gorgeous vineyard.

20140625-192922.jpg

I had previously reviewed this skirt here, and I had dismissed it. But then Jessica from Breakfast at Gigi’s went and bought the skirt and I loved it so much on her, I decided to try it again. This time I ordered the Zocalo Maxi Skirt in a medium (it is sold out, but you might be able to call customer service and find it in a store). It was on sale and I loved pairing it with turquoise.

20140625-193127.jpg

Another brilliant thing Jessica did was to iron the sides of the skirt closed. I contemplated doing this. And I eventually might go this route, but for now I simply paired my skirt with a lace slip. I like the extra dimension and coverage that it provides.

20140625-193200.jpg

I cannot get enough of my Simply Livly’s Turquoise Necklace.

20140625-193329.jpg

Who says romance is just for kids?

Wait. Does anybody say that? That is just wrong.

Either way, I definitely had a moment with that creme brûlée.

And nobody can tell me differently.

Have you spun through a vineyard? Or from a vineyard?

And who thinks lemon wine should be a thing?

Those strawberries are sweet and all, but lemons… they’ve got some tang.

P.S. * I shared this on The Pleated Poppy!
