Girl In The Moon

IMG_2718.JPG

I put this outfit on for a date with my husband.

It had been spinning in my mind ever since I scored this awesome moon Top from Anthropologie on a popback sale price of less than $20.

I was over the moon about my new score.

IMG_2705.JPG

I put it all on and paraded into the living room to show my husband.

“What do you think of this outfit?” I excitedly squealed.

He studied it for a moment.

“Meh,” he said as he shrugged his shoulders.

IMG_2706.JPG

I was kind of crushed as I made my way back to our bedroom to search for something else to wear. I ended up picking this.

IMG_2710.JPG

The next day my daughter casually said to me, “Mom, remember that outfit you put on yesterday with the moons and the moon and star necklaces. I can’t stop thinking about it. It was the best outfit I have ever seen. If I could ever have an outfit like that one day, I would be so happy.”

“Really?!” I grinned from ear to ear.

I am sure at some point when she moves away for college, this outfit will disappear, but until then I was so happy to hear that maybe I wasn’t so wrong with my choices.

IMG_2712.JPG

Later in the week I ended up wearing the outfit.

IMG_2719.JPG

Blue is my favorite color. I adore all of the different shades going on here. I had purchased this skirt from Modcloth many moons ago. My favorite way to wear it is over my Colima Maxi Skirt. I love layering hi-low skirts. It makes me happy.

I think that this works as well.

My small moon necklace is from on Etsy. The white star necklace was a Christmas present from “my husband” in 2013.

IMG_2715.JPG

My Astrological sign is Cancer. Its planet symbol is the moon (I know). I love when I can find pieces with the moon shape that are not over the… top. Do you get a rise out of sale items? Do you collect any astronomy items? I once took an astronomy course in college. Oh, vey. I think I confused astrology for astronomy. Do you know how much math is involved in astronomy? It’s lunacy. I totally spaced out. Went to the dark side. Thankfully it was just a phase.

From India To Me

IMG_2237.JPG

I love to shop Etsy for one of a kind pieces. I especially love embroidered pieces. But I am not picky. I’ll know it when I see it.

And I saw it.

But it was sold out, so I contacted Lisa from Madame Hall on Etsy to see if she would be making any more of the dresses I had seen on her site in a size medium. She did not have any but she sent me a few pictures of this dress laying flat.

And, of course, I loved it.

IMG_2238.JPG

I bought it (with the help of a gift card from the sweetest lady ever. Thank you B!) and anxiously awaited its arrival.

It came in the coolest package about two weeks later. She sewed the package up with my address on the cloth. Inside of the initial package, the dress was wrapped in another gorgeous embroidered simple cloth bag. And she even sent me a beautiful embroidered scarf as a gift. Truly exceptional service. I would not hesitate to order from her again and to recommend her shop to others.

IMG_2216.JPG

I was not planning on pairing it with brown boots. In fact, I was going to wear it with my black fringed booties. But the snow would have ruined those. I did need to quickly grab a slip for underneath this because of the length. It is almost more of a tunic than a dress but because it is made from wool, I would only wear this with tights and leggings in the wintertime any way.

IMG_2222.JPG

The bright cheerful colors just make me so happy.

IMG_2205.JPG

I feel like this dress was meant to be mine. Or I was meant for it. It only needed to find me half way across the world. From India to me.

IMG_2240.JPG

Do you buy clothing items from Etsy? Do you ever feel a personal connection to an item of clothing? Does it speak to you?

IMG_2239.JPG

Mine does.

I’m not gonna tell you what it says.

IMG_2194.JPG

All right.

Just this once. I’ll spill the beans. Or beads as it were…

IMG_2223.JPG

With a shimmer. A glimmer. A whisper, it breathes, “OHHHHHH YEAAAAAAHHHHHH.”

Or maybe that’s just me.

Vintage Green Love

IMG_1625.JPG

I have been holding out on you.

IMG_1622.JPG

That sounds worse than it is. You see, I just assume that after I write a story, you have read it and will know what I mean even before I have published it here. But there are so many stories I need to publish and maybe then I will be understood… Or not.

IMG_1664.JPG

Same with my closet. I think that you must know what lurks in the depths of it. But how could you? When I, myself, often overlook things.

IMG_1619.JPG

Like this dress.

IMG_1628.JPG

I bought it at the beginning of the year. Felt bad about buying it. Stashed it in My Closet of Guilt and never wore it.

As one does.

IMG_1623.JPG

But I came upon it last week and fell in love.

It is a vintage dress purchased from Etsy. I love shopping for vintage clothes on Etsy. There are a plethora of beautiful pieces. With so many different sellers, the prices vary, so it is a good idea to look around. I cannot believe the prices some sellers ask for both low and high. Check the seller’s feedback for reviews. Check their social media and Etsy home page to see if they are running any coupon codes. My dress was $64 and I thought this was fair.

IMG_1663.JPG

It is the very best color. An odd shade of green that takes on different hues depending upon how the light hits it.

It has the most amazing embroidery of deep blues and bright pinks tickled through with tiny mirrors. Yes, tickled.

The bracelet is from World Market a few months ago (similar here). Have you been to World Market lately? They are killing it in the jewelry department.

IMG_1620-0.JPG

I took these pictures at my dad’s house. I liked how the Juniper Tree matched my dress. My husband, the photographer, did not like the matching. He wished for more contrast.

I feel the same way about the model’s thighs.

You work with what you have.

IMG_1629.JPG

The only thing I can remember about Juniper Trees growing up is that coyote feces is full of Juniper berries. And so I avoided any and all Juniper Trees as a child, positive that there were coyotes lurking beneath each and every one.

Speaking of coyotes, I am no longer afraid. Our cluster of homes sit upon the edge of our town. This means frequent coyote spottings as we venture out. Two days ago, it was pouring rain in California. My husband saw a soaking wet, miserable looking, coyote dart into the bushes in front of his car.

It was all that he spoke of that day. He said it was the saddest sight. The coyote looked thin and bewildered by its wet surroundings.

There are not very many Juniper Trees here.

Did you grow up around wild things? Do you own a vintage dress? Do you store it and not wear it or wear it all of the time? Do you know odd facts about animal feces? Or is that just me?

*I shared this on The Pleated Poppy and Reasons To Dress.

It’s The Little Things: Quirky Jewelry

I found some pieces of jewelry from the shop UPcycledWorks when she was selling her items at the San Diego Del Mar Fair in June. My daughter and I split the cost of four items. We purchased three rings and a necklace.

IMG_9557.JPG

I own two of her Scrabble rings. One in a “C.” My husband and daughter’s names both start with this initial. This makes it easy for my daughter and I to share monogrammed pieces.

IMG_8129.JPG

And one in a “Q.” This letter is for my favorite letter in Scrabble.

Please ignore my this model’s creepy veiny hand. I cannot imagine what her face looks like. Shudder.

IMG_0163-0.JPG

I also purchased a Mahjong ring. I cannot believe I have not taken a picture of it on my hand, yet. My husband collects vintage Mahjong sets. We used to play together all of the time, but we have not done so in years. I miss it.

IMG_0122.JPG

We bought a telescope necklace that my daughter wore and now I cannot find. Sigh. She is as organized as her mother. But I really want these earrings. I have a thing for semicolons. I kind of love them. I try desperately not to use them because one of my favorite writers once commented that they are obnoxious; they live on in my heart.

Do you own any quirky jewelry? I love it all. I like being able to say something without ever speaking a word. Wasn’t that a song? I have semicolons on the brain; I cannot remember.

It’s the little things: fun little pieces of jewelry.
