Vintage Green Love

I have been holding out on you.

That sounds worse than it is. You see, I just assume that after I write a story, you have read it and will know what I mean even before I have published it here. But there are so many stories I need to publish and maybe then I will be understood… Or not.

IMG_1664.JPG

Same with my closet. I think that you must know what lurks in the depths of it. But how could you? When I, myself, often overlook things.

Like this dress.

IMG_1628.JPG

I bought it at the beginning of the year. Felt bad about buying it. Stashed it in My Closet of Guilt and never wore it.

As one does.

IMG_1623.JPG

But I came upon it last week and fell in love.

It is a vintage dress purchased from Etsy. I love shopping for vintage clothes on Etsy. There are a plethora of beautiful pieces. With so many different sellers, the prices vary, so it is a good idea to look around. I cannot believe the prices some sellers ask for both low and high. Check the seller’s feedback for reviews. Check their social media and Etsy home page to see if they are running any coupon codes. My dress was $64 and I thought this was fair.

It is the very best color. An odd shade of green that takes on different hues depending upon how the light hits it.

It has the most amazing embroidery of deep blues and bright pinks tickled through with tiny mirrors. Yes, tickled.

The bracelet is from World Market a few months ago (similar here). Have you been to World Market lately? They are killing it in the jewelry department.

I took these pictures at my dad’s house. I liked how the Juniper Tree matched my dress. My husband, the photographer, did not like the matching. He wished for more contrast.

I feel the same way about the model’s thighs.

You work with what you have.

IMG_1629.JPG

The only thing I can remember about Juniper Trees growing up is that coyote feces is full of Juniper berries. And so I avoided any and all Juniper Trees as a child, positive that there were coyotes lurking beneath each and every one.

Speaking of coyotes, I am no longer afraid. Our cluster of homes sit upon the edge of our town. This means frequent coyote spottings as we venture out. Two days ago, it was pouring rain in California. My husband saw a soaking wet, miserable looking, coyote dart into the bushes in front of his car.

It was all that he spoke of that day. He said it was the saddest sight. The coyote looked thin and bewildered by its wet surroundings.

There are not very many Juniper Trees here.

Did you grow up around wild things? Do you own a vintage dress? Do you store it and not wear it or wear it all of the time? Do you know odd facts about animal feces? Or is that just me?

*I shared this on The Pleated Poppy and Reasons To Dress.

  1. Love, love, love that dress on you! So, so pretty! Again I’m trying to catch up on my blog reading, which has taken a back burner over the last week or two! Tis the busy season!

    Happy weekend to you!

    • Thank you Rebecca! I know exactly what you mean! This Christmas has just come in a flash. I just realized today that I have been making out all of my checks for the last week to be on the fourth of December. My brain cannot compute that we are running out of days to get things done! I still need about a quarter of my Christmas presents! We will be getting our tree tomorrow!

      Have a fun week!

  2. The coyote poop made me laugh. I live in Arizona with untouched desert behind me. We have coyotes visit daily. Here the coyotes eat the pea pods that drop from the trees. Their poop is full of them and it looks like granola(sorry to be gross!). It’s an obstacle course while walking the dogs to keep them away from it. Rest assured someone else has coyote poop fun facts!!!!! PS that green is a great color on you:)

    • Oh my goodness! I love your coyote facts. It sounds like coyotes will eat (and digest) just about anything. And thank you about the dress! And for commenting! : )

      Have a lovely week!

  3. Well of course you know my love (obsession) with vintage dresses. I thought this was bought at Anthro. Really looks like their style.

In Canada if you hike lots, which we used to do when we lived in BC and Alberta, you learn to recognize bear poop. It is best if you see that on the trail that you continue with caution. We used to have loads of coyotes out the back of our house when I lived in Edmonton as we lived on the very edge of the city and it was just bush behind us.

If you travel to Banff or Lake Louise or even on the rural highways you will come across all kinds of wildlife. That is one of the great things about Canada. Some of it is still wild and belongs to the animals, the real owners.

    • Aaaahhhh! Bear poop! I think I would not proceed at all. That would terrify me. Now I am curious as to how to tell if it is bear poop. I always picture Canada as wild. I do not know how much wild, but I imagine huge steel cities and then vast gorgeous wilderness. I am probably wrong in my imagination. I should really get up there one day. It is magical in my head.

      Have a gorgeous week!

  4. Hey Jenni!

You look so pretty =) Love your hair and dress…That color green is perfection!!
Might be my favorite dress of yours 🙂

I grew up spending part of my summers in the Idaho back country without electricity and no cell phone service!!! The closest town was over 3 hours away so yes, I grew up around the wild things!

I’ve spent alot of time in the Arizona desert as well when I visit family! When riding horses, we’ve had coyotes walk right up next to our horse!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend :0) ♥

    • Thank you so much! Wow! I have to say I think that that sounds just a lovely way to spend a summer growing up. I think kids truly get to explore their imaginations that way. I am grateful for growing up in the country. I can just be.

I would have gotten scared of a coyote walking up to the horse. I would not want the horse to get spooked and throw me!

I hope you have a great week! Did you get anything with this 30% off sale? I scored a popback skirt for $20. : )

      Jenni

      • I still love spending a few weeks every summer at the cabin…One of my very favorite places =)
It has running water and a propane fridge which makes it nice but I still like that we don’t have electricity or cell service! It was great for us kids growing up and our imaginations…Anytime kids can spend time outdoors and “unplug” is great I think! For adults too 🙂

I think it’s wonderful that you grew up in the country and around bees!
When I was little, one of my grandparents friend’s (we knew him as the Bee Man!) would show us his bees and tell us all about them and the queen. He told us always to be very careful with honey bees because without them pollinating we couldn’t survive!

What skirt did you get?! $20 is awesome!! I couldn’t resist trying the Buyamba Kotido Boots!

        Have a wonderful day :0) ♥

  5. Love that color of green. Great dress!

I grew up in South Florida – in a town west of Ft. Lauderdale that was built on the Everglades (kind of sad about that actually). We had alligators and snakes and ducks show up all the time in our yards. And in the summertime the front yards were literally covered in poisonous frogs. Here’s a hint about alligators – if you are ever to encounter one on land – run zigzag to get away. Alligators can only go fast in a straight line. 🙂

    • Aaahhhhhh! Alligators! They terrify me! Oh my goodness. The zigzag fact is embedded into my brain. I shall never ever forget that fact. Thank you for sharing it. And poisonous frogs?! It sounds like an adventure.

      Have a super week!

  6. That dress looks fabulous on you! Very you and the color is sublime. I love vintage stuff too. No dresses, just coats and a set of mink cuffs that I have no idea what to do with ever. They were my great aunts.

  7. Vintage dresses are the best, especially when they are fun colors like this green one you found! I recently pulled out my prom dress to wear to a wedding, its a vintage red dress from the 50s, and wearing it made me feel so lady like! I definitely appreciated it more than I did as a 17 year old!

I also love your photo with the gnome! So fun!

  8. Such a pretty vintage treasure! I think I fall squarely into the ‘collector’ box…I adore scouring the racks for thrifted vintage pieces, but once they’re mine I rarely wear them for fear of damage. Which, come to think about it, is fairly ludicrous…they’ve already stood the test of time…
