Hippie At Home

I know I promised pictures of me not in front of my fireplace (Sunday, I have some outdoor outfit pictures to post) , but I wanted to show what I look like on a day when I am kicking back at home. And I actually have clothes on and not pajamas.

Wrinkled. Shoeless. Beltless. Happy. Cooking.

20140422-212104.jpg

I knew the moment I took my apron off, I was going to get flack from my husband. You think he would not give the woman making him his favorite meal grief, but you would think wrong. ; )

You see, he hates long denim skirts. Hates them. And, well, I… I love them!

So, never the two shall meet.

But I wanted to share my Forever 21 Peasant Top that I adore. And I thought it fit perfectly with my Citizens of Humanity Aja Skirt I purchased from a seller on eBay last year. I had it tailored for my body, so I know it fits the way it is supposed to… Big!

Here is the commentary coming from my photographer as I tried to smile for the camera:

20140422-212333.jpg

“That skirt is ginormous!”

I was not phased.

20140422-212545.jpg

“That skirt is Duggarific!”

An explanation of this word my husband gleefully made up, derives from one of my favorite shows on t.v., “Nineteen Kids And Counting” (their last name is Duggar. I love the Little House On The Prairie vibe to it even though their lifestyle and choices are very far from mine). My husband is sometimes trapped in the room when I watch the show. The women all wear long skirts. A lot of the time they are denim, because they do not wear pants. Or short skirts.

This brings this question to my mind, “If a long denim skirt is the opposite of sexy, how the heck did they have nineteen kids?”

Hmmmmmm.

20140422-212634.jpg

“Be careful, you might expose your ankles!”

20140422-212443.jpg

To which I did this.

20140422-212511.jpg

And then this.

Yep. It was a typical day in the Gnome Lover household. And this model is going to go add a little something extra to that meat on the stove.

Just kidding. That little somethin’ would just be love. My husband and I have a good time. Just don’t tell him that.

Do you have an item in your closet your partner does not like? Do you wear it anyway? Do you wear shoes at home?

* Please excuse my wild hair! It was a day at home. And, yes, I see that hair brush on my fireplace. It is my daughter’s. It never occurred to me to use it. ; ). It’s hard to think when you’re bein’ heckled.

    • Thank you Sarah! I agree. My husband loves tighter clothing. Which is not me at all! But he does like a lot of the stuff so for that I am lucky! : ). But I wish he was inboard with my looser stuff because it is my favorite!

      Thanks again!

      Have a lovely week!

  1. OMG the jokes about the skirt are so funny! Jokes aside, that is an awesome skirt! Similar to that, I have some Citizens of Humanity wide leg crops that my hubby hates. They have the unfinished hem like the skirt. Also, he doesn’t like my Matilda Jane ruffle pants, but I wear them anyway! 🙂

    • Thanks Heather! And I am glad I am not alone! : ). I still wear the skirt all of the time because it is one of my favorites! I am glad you still wear your items, too! We gotta wear what makes us happy! On date nights, I wear more structured stuff for him. Daytime is fair game.

      Have a terrific day!

      Jenni

  2. Ha! My husband would HATE that skirt! There are very few things that he doesn’t like or, as he puts it, ” I don’t get it, I don’t read fashion blogs.” One are my printed maxi skirts and the other is one of my huge Anthro sweaters. Boys are funny.

    • Thanks for making me laugh! That is so funny. Our husbands think alike. I am glad we just wear the stuff anyway. On date nights, I wear the stuff he likes, but daytime is fair game! : ).

      Have a beautiful week!

  3. I love your apron (teal! dogs! what’s not to like!) and I love your commentary. 🙂 Also, this outfit is amazing on you. It would look completely ridiculous on me, but it’s perfectly you.

    • Aww. Thank you Rachel! I am always losing my aprons! So, I was excited to find this one again! Thanks for the compliment, too. I think you could rock a maxi! For sure! : )

      Have a lucky week!

  4. Haha I’m pretty sure this could have been an interaction between my husband and I. He thinks he is so funny 🙂 Love the denim skirt – you pull it off perfectly and in non-Duggar fashion. So cool that you got it on eBay!

    • Thanks Ashley! He loves to compare anything long to the Duggars. I love them, so I don’t mind. : ). I had stalked it for so long and was so excited when I found it on eBay for a reasonable price!

      Have a gorgeous week!

  5. Hahaha, I have just spent the last 10 mins Googling the little house on the prarie because I used to watch it when I was younger but totally forgot about it and what all the characters looked like etc. I don’t think they show it here in the UK anymore.

I’m loving the skirt banter =)

    • Thank you Corrine. Okay. Here is what you need to know about “Little House On The Prairie” as an adult… It is depressing! I thought I would turn it on one day for so,e light television and a baby died! Now I can never watch it again! I did not remember that from when I was little. Thought I would give you the warning. My little heart could not take it!

      Have a splendid week! : )

  6. I LOVE long jean skirts and wear them all the time!!!
They are so much fun 🙂 I love all maxi skirts though!
Your hair looks really pretty! I wish my hair looked that good when I don’t brush it!!
I’m glad you and your hubby have fun with your picture takin’…Have a great day :0) <3

    • Thank you so much! Maxis will always have my heart. I cannot wait for you to see my pictures on Sunday! I wear TWO maxi skirts together! So fun! : ). I think it blew my husband’s mind that I could put even more clothes on!

      Ha!

Thank you for the sweet hair compliments! I really appreciate that! I could not believe there was a hair brush right behind my head after I took those pictures! Doh!

      Have a lovely week!

      Jenni

  7. I have a love of maxi jeans skirts too. I don’t know why. This looks so boho and so you.

My husband is pretty good about my clothes. I can’t think of one thing he doesn’t like. Maybe my fleece pjs.

I wouldn’t change a thing about your hair. Looks like you just had a bit of afternoon delight and crawled out of bed looking all sexhay. ; )

    bisous
    Suzanne

    • Thanks Suzanne! Ha! I’m not sayin’ anything. ; ).

I do not own any fleece pajamas. I get so hot at night. With earthquakes in Southern California, you have to wear something to bed (I will never forget the day after an earthquake and the elderly couple who taught Spanish at our school were bewildered that they ran out of their house in the buff and their whole neighborhood saw them).

I think I will wear that skirt again tomorrow! I have a shirt I thought i had returned but just found in my closet (It was only $7, so no biggie). I will wear that tomorrow! My husband is working the morning shift so he’ll never know. ; )

      Have a delightful week! : )

      Jenni

  8. Jenni, love that outfit on you, regardless of what your husband thinks. 😉 have you seen the new Moineau Bouquet Tee at Anthropologie? I was doing a return the other day and had to buy it at full price. It reminds me of your peasant top. The quality of the embroidery, fit and colors blew me away and I don’t usually purchase at full price.

    • Hi Melanie! I put that top in my wishlist this week. It is gorgeous. I do worry it will be like the rust top I tried on the other day and will showcase the largest parts of my thighs.

    • Thank you Melanie! I love that top. I added it to my wishlist this week. I love the embroidery. It is so pretty. I will have to wait for a good sale price.

Have a beautiful week! Enjoy your gorgeous shirt! : )

      Jenni

    • Thank you Brynne! I read your sweet comment right before I went to get my daughter at school. You made me smile all the way there.

      Thank you!

      Have a wonderful week!

      Jenni

  9. honestly, i love denim skirts and i think that they can be very sexy! you wear yours well and i love the poses! tease your hubby a bit like that and he might just change his tune!

    • Thank you Mark! I, agree. I think that denim skirts are lovely. Thanks for your suggestion. Hopefully, my husband will learn to love them soon. : )

      Have a cheerful week!

      Jenni

  10. I love your hair like this! It’s all cute and vivacious, not messy at all. 🙂 That is such a cute top, I couldn’t believe it was from F21! Sometimes, they really do kill it. And I love that skirt on you – having seen pictures of the Duggars, I can assure you that you don’t look like them! I’d be terrified of stepping on that hem and falling on my face, though! Maybe you should get it taken up a little bit…? Just for heath and safety….?

You are not alone with the husband who comments on your clothes by the way. If Victor thinks something looks silly, he won’t hesitate to make fun of it. I have this one skirt that reminds him of “that really nasty colour chameleons turn, to convince predators they’re poisonous”. I just laugh at him and wear the skirt anyway. 😉

    • Thanks Gwen! I got it tailored to wear with shoes. So, it is the perfect length if I am not being lazy at home. Thankfully, I am so lazy at home, I do not do a lot of walking. Forever 21 does really do it sometimes. My daughter got the cutest pair of overalls there last month and they have held up really well. No complaints for the price.

Victor and my husband would get along really well. My husband is always cracking me up. Right now I am trying to get the house in a semblance of order before he comes home in an hour. Aaaaahhhh! : )

Have a wonderful Thursday. I got your email. I will write you back tomorrow! I have that top on my wishlist too. But I want it for $20. ; ). I am oddly cheap about some things. I have to do some housework after I respond to the comments!

      Jenni

  11. Oh I love the skirt! Freddy hates my bell bottoms. But I keep wearing them and buying them and have no intention of stopping. Ha ha ha ha! (that’s my evil laugh)

    • Thank you Cynthia! We should go out and you could wear your bell bottoms and I will wear that skirt. Our husbands would be so… Proud! ; )

By the way, I LOVE your bell bottoms!

      Jenni

  12. I love to watch the Duggars too, I’ve watched since before their show, when they had a couple of specials on tlc! I agree their lives are so very different, but I’m compelled to watch. Also, I think they raise their children to be good people. They are always helping others, encouraging others & their children are well behaved & polite, yet still run & play like normal kids do!

Luv your undone hair & comfy, fav skirt! I also LUV that peasant top from forever 21….I may have to check & see if my store has it! 🙂
    Rebecca

    • Thank you Rebecca! I love that skirt, too. In fact, I am gonna wear it again tomorrow! And when my husband comes home tomorrow, I will be cooking dinner and wearing the same skirt and apron! Hee!

I love the Duggar children. They are polite. I love the whole family. They have such good morals. They are self made. They only buy used and save the difference. There is a lot to be said about their values. I could not live the way they do, but I respect and admire them for their choices.

      Have an enjoyable week!

      Jenni

  13. ok, I LOVE your skirt! and I am totally laughing at the description “Duggarific”….so funny! I become mesmerized by that show, yes they totally ALL have long denim skirts!! but they are so kind and nice, and just good people….how can ya not love a Duggarific skirt?

    • Thank you Melodee! That’s right! How could you not like a Duggarific skirt?! They are just so nice and kind. You know it started again? They had two new episodes last night. And more next Tuesday. I find the show soothing.

      Have a marvelous Thursday!

      Jenni

  14. LOL! I love the commentary, sounds like my hubby. i have this black maxi that he abhors, and i could care less. it’s like wearing pajama bottoms, but without those pesky leg holes. and no, i don’t wear shoes at home. actually, the moment i walk in the door, no matter what hour of the day, i immediately put my pj’s on.

    • Thanks Jac! That is me, exactly. I want to wear pajamas all of the time! Comfort has always ruled my house! I am the same way outside of the house, actually. I do not like high heels. They hurt! : ). I am glad you still wear your black maxi! : )

      Have a beautiful weekend!

      Jenni

  15. Hi Jenni,

Love the peasant top! I seem to be really honing in on peasant tops this spring and am looking to add a few to my closet (including that gorgeous Moineau Bouquet Tee at Anthro which I want *so* much but won’t pay full price for…).

Can I ask what size you took in the F21 top? It’s always so hard to know how things will fit from that store. I’m looking to place an online order and may add “your” top to my order….for the free shipping, of course! The other one I’m considering purchasing is this one in the purple/navy colorway: http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?br=f21&category=top&ProductID=2000063336 I tried it on in store and the colors are even more saturated and beautiful in person than online. I didn’t buy it at the time, but am now thinking I have to own it (since it will be awhile before that Anthro beauty hits sale!). 🙂

    • Hi! First, thank you! I wanted to respond to you quickly before I run out the door so you can get your shipping. I think that the top runs REALLY small. I took a large and i feel I would have been more comfortable in an extra large if they had it. But they don’t. It is too short for me to wear untucked with jeans. However, it is cute tucked in. I would imagine it would fit similar to that really cute top that you linked to (I will have to check that one out! I love the colors!).

I agree it will be awhile for the Anthropologie ones to hit sale. It is hard, because I see so many of the things I like selling out, but I have to be patient. Plus, I just bought a pair of sandals that ate up so much of my May budget but I checked everywhere for a similar price and Anthropologie had the best one with the 20% off right now. I know I will wear them all summer, but ouch!

I hope that helped! Please let me know what you got and how you like it when it comes. I love hearing about what other gals get! : )

      Have a terrific Friday!

      Jenni

  16. I love the denim skirt, and I love that it fits big and long. Denim skirts often hit at an awkward midi length on me, and that length just doesn’t have the boho romance I want in a denim skirt. Yours is perfect, so poo on him! haha Your point about the paradox of unsexy denim skirts and 19 kids is hilarious. How can your husband argue with that? That’s rock hard evidence, that is. And I feel you on wanting to take pictures in new spaces. Since we’ve moved to Nashville, I’ve gotten lazy with photo locations and just use the balcony. But we just bought patio furniture last weekend, so now there’s no space for photos out on the balcony…whoops! Guess I’ll have to scout out some new locales!

    • Thanks Liz! I like that denim skirt too. I wish he could appreciate its awesomeness even a little bit. I did wear a ginormous swing shirt today that I loved but I knew probably was not his favorite and I did not hear a peep. ; ).

It is hard to go out and get pictures. I meant to today, but we went to the movies instead. Of course, that was more fun. But now I have to rewear this outfit so I can get the pictures I want!

      Have a sweet Saturday!

      Jenni
