Overalls?

I will admit it. This is my very first pair of overalls. Well, maybe I had a pair when I was four or five, but I have long since forgotten. When I was pregnant with both of my children, I longed to be the pregnant girl in overalls. Alas, I am not one of those girls that is cute whilst pregnant (and, no, I am not pregnant. That would be impossible, just so ya know). And so I skipped over them. Never bought them, but enviously stared at those who did.

I started seeing them pop up again. And I started stewing. Then I saw that picture on the Pottery Barn Teen catalog and my interest grew. The final straw was when Free People offered a distressed corduroy pair in the gold color.

I was sold…Or they were sold…To me. Somethin’ like that.

I have been trying to put together different tops with the overalls. I pretty much want to wear them all of the time. Here is what I created:

This is my favorite look. It is a Free People lace shirt I purchased from Nordstrom Rack in the spring. I like it with H & M’s lace flats. The necklace is care of Simply Livly on Etsy.

I paired it with a denim jacket. I definitely look rustic here.

And a Free People cardigan.

I tried the overalls with Anthropologie’s Daydrifter Tee.

I also paired it with a striped long sleeve layering top from H & M. I believe this was $14.

And went full on country farm girl with a Johnny Was flannel shirt and vintage boots. The turquoise necklace is from Simply Livly on Etsy.

This sweater was purchased last winter at Forever 21. I think it was $15. I have a mad crush on it.

I bought this top with my mother-in-law during my Nordstrom Rack birthday spree. It is made by Free People. I could never find it on their site. And I did look. The color is my favorite paired with mustard. The earrings are from Anthropologie many years ago.

And because I could not help myself. And because he wanted a ride. And maybe because I am more than a tad bit crazy…I put a little gnome in my overalls. My husband refused to go out with me like this. The wee little fellow was sad. ; )

So, what do you think of the overall trend? And would you have gone shopping with me and my little gnome friend (he was made by the lovely Moongoat on Etsy

Flip Flop Applesauce, Blue and White Embroidery

I love blue and white together. It is such a classic combination. Add embroidery and my knees weaken. It is no wonder I possess no self control when I spy anything with my favorite pairing.

Enter Anthropologie’s Ping Maxi Skirt. I love the way Anthropologie styled the Ping Maxi Skirt with the chambray shirt. This skirt was a splurge. It is my favorite. I received 20% off of it. It still felt expensive, but it has since sold out in my size. I am happy I sprung on it. I paired it with the Daydrifter denim shirt from Anthropologie. It is made by Cloth and Stone. I used some of the money I had leftover from my flea market birthday trip to pay for the top. I am also wearing a sale belt from Nordstrom Rack, sandals and my necklace gifted to me from Simply Livly.

It is such an easy, breezy, feel good outfit. I love the way the skirt swooshes around my legs when I walk. And there is nothing more feminine, then going barefoot, and tucking your feet and skirt up into a chair with you. Then indulging in a good book.

Ahhhh. Heaven.

My mind started spinning. “I think I can create an exact opposite look from my closet,” I thought. My thoughts are deep. I took an embroidered shirt I purchased from Anthropologie five years ago (I cannot find the name of it.) and my $20 denim maxi score from last year. I added a different belt. But I wore the same sandals and necklace.

Viola! It’s an opposite replica. But not. An outfit from a different dimmension. Key in some eerie music.

Have you created an opposite look before? What was it? Which way was your favorite?

I’m Bad

I was being so very good last month. The “bestest” of good. But my mother-in-law and I went shopping five days ago: At Nordstrom Rack and Marshall’s. Oh man. The deals they had that day. It felt like a dream. I found so many sale items I had been waiting and waiting for. And everything was at least 60% off.

If you are looking for a crochet top to layer with (which I was), Marshall’s has a ton of them right now. They all seemed to be under $15. They also had some good Nanette Lepore pieces. And Nordstrom Rack was teeming with Free People items, galore. So many pretty slips. It is a very, very good thing it is my birthday this week. I had my husband wrap most of it up.

[And just a quick note regarding sizing. I am almost always a medium, but I tried on all sizes in clearance. I have said it before, but it might have made its way to clearance because of wonky sizing. Almost everything I am wearing or purchased that day is either a small or a large. I used to wear an XL or sometimes XXL. So, to me, the letters on the tag are just that, letters. They mean nothing to me.

And you never know. Try it on!]

Here are my outfits from last week:

I loved this dress so much, I could not wait to wear it. So, it did not get wrapped with the rest. It is Free People’s To A “T” Crochet Slip dress. It was originally $168, but I scored it for $39. Almost 77% off! The tag said $65, but it rang up for less. The under slip is not included. It is Free People’s Seamless Dot Slip that was at Nordstrom Rack for $20, instead of the original $58. It looks putty in color. The necklace is from Simply Livly on Etsy. She gifted me the necklace and I wear it all of the time. It is $15 in her shop and I love it.

I felt perfectly “me” in this dress. It reminded me of the “doily” dress from Reality Bites. But I am wearing undergarments. Phew!

20130701-163829.jpg

I also purchased this shirt from Anthropologie last month for $24 (with a price adjustment for the 20% off sale currently going on). It is called Paisley Trails Tee. It is sold out, but I have seen it pop up again three times this week, so I am still including the link. I am wearing a medium. It was originally $88. I wanted to pair it with my pink Pilcro stet pants from Anthropologie. Could not find them. So, I paired it with jeans. I am creative.

Necklace is Free People’s Solid Supernova on sale here. Shoes are from Anthropologie last year, by Seychelles.

20130701-163914.jpg

And I purchased this little strapless dress for $23. Originally $44. It reminded me of the Tarana Maxi dress from Anthropologie (which I think is so beautiful, but this worked for me). The silver necklace was a gift from Free People for participating in Free People Me. It is called Pewter Short Chained Collar. My post about it is here.

20130701-163542.jpg

20130701-163617.jpg

I paired it with my Cloth & Stone chambray shirt from my closet.

20130701-163713.jpg

And a purple t-shirt from Splendid that I also picked up that day.

The shoes in the pictures are my favorite from Anthropologie last year. They are called Tracy Reese Corchorus Wedges.

That is all for now regarding my gluttonous behavior. This week. I also gained five pounds in the last two weeks. So, now I am super cranky on my diet. Good times!
