Vintage Kantha Ensemble

Two years ago, Anthropologie came out with a dress made from vintage Kantha fabric.

At the time I had just lost sixty pounds (I would go on to lose more) and I had very little clothing that fit me. It felt like a miracle to find this dress that seemed like it came from my dreams.

The dresses were by my favorite designer, Vineet Bahl.

Each one was different and unique as they were made from vintage fabric.

I paired the Vintage Kantha Dress with these kantha clips I purchased this year from Free People. I love that they match the dress perfectly.

I own four of these dresses.

20140716-172304.jpg

Yes. Four! Each one is more amazing than the next. The inside of each dress is done in a different vintage Kantha fabric. This one has a purple Kantha inside. I have been trying to figure out how to wear them inside out, too.

These dresses are my favorite pieces of clothing in my closet. If I had to choose one item to personify me, this would be it.

The coin necklace seemed like a good fit on this day (similar here).

Look at that detail on the dress.

I just love it so much.

I cannot wait to share the rest of my Kantha dresses. They are so special to me. I own them in orange (shown here), pink, maroon, and green. I would buy more if they were available.

I bought mine on a discount. The maroon one was a steal. But, regardless of price, they are the pieces of clothing in my closet I would save in the event of a fire (after family, pets, documents and art, of course).

What one item in your closet personifies you? How long have you had it? Do you own more than one?

The Winners Are… Plus My Picks Of The Month

20130914-182453.jpg

Thank you so much to everyone who entered my recent giveaway. The winners of one necklace each are: Alissa and Stephen Liddell!

Congratulations! I will ship them out tomorrow! Enjoy!

I had so much fun with this giveaway. Who am I kidding? I am just having fun, period.

I also want to say, “Thank you!” to my sweet mom who has been so supportive through this whole experience. She diligently reads everyday. It has been a really hard year for her and I feel so lucky to have her in my life. I also feel awful for not mentioning her in my “Reflections” post. Sorry Mom! I love you!

This is also the time of the month where I like to take a moment to reflect on things that are interesting to me or that I am currently lusting after. And I mean lusting, because I am being very good and not buying anything (else) this month.

1. First, Casey from the blog Veggies and Glitter nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. She is such a sweetie. Her blog is really interesting. Reading her blog feels like hanging out with a great friend! She talks about fashion and life. Her recent date night post was sweet and the pictures of the food are enticing! I wish I lived closer to her, because that restaurant looked amazing. Yum! Fortune cookie martini? Yes please!

I wanted to give her a big, “thank you,” for the nomination. I am so lame, in that I will not be forwarding it on. However, I am very honored she thought of me.

“Thank you, Casey!”

2. I bought these refrigerated noodles. And now I cannot wait to create or try a homemade chicken noodle soup recipe. That shouldn’t be too hard, right? ; ). Stay tuned in the coming month for the outcome of this!

3. The New Target Threshold Line (pillows) looks interesting. I am loving the woodsy wonderland theme stores seem to have going on right now.

4. I wrote about these Dr. Scholls shoes that you keep in your purse last month (in case your feet hurt). They were very inexpensive. I wanted to do an update. I have tried them on. I am a true size 8. These are 7/8. They are a bit snug, but definitely doable. They seem super comfy. You could not use these for “regular” shoes, but they are wonderful for high-heel-aching-feet emergencies. I have a wedding to attend Sunday evening and I plan to utilize the heck out of these little babies!

5. My top five fashion picks this month (I own the first two. I have not tried on the last three. I just think they are cool).

Anthropologie’s Sketchbook Dress.

Anthropologie’s Toadstool Shirt

Modcloth’s Pop In Stand Out Sweater

Modcloth’s Wizard of Ostrich Sweater. I will probably be getting this for my winter wardrobe. I have very few sweaters.

Free People’s Mod Stripe Tunic in red. This will more than likely be an October purchase.

What are you wanting this month? Are you being patient or indulging? Please tell!

In The Sweltering Heat

What have you been wearing during this heat wave in the United States this week? Me, I have opted for long sleeves and jeans. I think I am in denial. I have also been breaking out my boots. I think it is because I am too cheap to go get a pedicure. This is what I have pulled together last week:

I adore this dress. It was a purchase I made in the spring. I originally blogged about it here. I wanted to pair it this time with my hair up and a turquoise necklace. The dress had been sold out for months, but they just reissued it. It is Free People’s First Kiss Maxi. The turquoise necklace is from Simply Livly on Etsy.

This was another purchase at the beginning of the year. My At Sea Mini Dress by Tracy Reese via Anthropologie. This is one of my favorites that I turn to again and again. The necklace is from Anthropologie. I believe it is sold out. But I am giving two necklaces away for my giveaway starting September 10th!

Gosh, how boring am I with my hair lately? I just have wanted it off of my neck. This little hair style does the trick. I consider this outfit my “free” outfit, as it was purchased entirely with gift cards and birthday money. The chambray top is Anthropologie’s Day Drifter Tee. Heather of The Peacock Fairy found hers for a fraction of the cost at TJ Maxx. The skirt is Anthropologie’s Waverly Skirt. The necklace is the same as above. The belt is Calvin Klein via Nordstrom Rack.

20130902-144031.jpg

I purchased this Nora Peplum Top from Anthropologie and have worn it two times this week. It is my favorite throw on with jeans. The jeans were a sale purchase from Anthropologie. They are Mothers Brand (my new favorite) and they were $40 marked down from $198.
Again, the necklace is the same as above. Can you tell I like it? And the boots are vintage from the flea market.

So, have you been in denial like me? Sweating in the heat? Or have you opted for a more sensible choice? Please tell!

P.S. I shared this on The Pleated Poppy!

I have not posted pictures in a while of my husband’s true love. Nope. I am not jealous. I love her, too. She is a 1967 VW Bus and she is so perty.

I recently purchased a dress I had been longing for. The dress is Free People’s Estelle Maxi Dress. I used my birthday discount on it (I also used it on its rust twin). I knew this dress deserved an excursion. We went for a drive.

20130825-131924.jpg

We pulled over for some photos.

I gave my husband’s baby some affection.

20130825-132006.jpg

It was lovely.

My husband’s lover had a great time, too. Just look at her grin.

20130825-132217.jpg

She did pull my hair a little while we were driving. She also tried to throw me out with her shaking and rattling. But I don’t mind.

20130825-132343.jpg

She is too lovely to resist.
