Hung Up On Pink

Our pink door finally got hung up!

Remember my post about that old pink door we purchased? Well, we finally got around to hanging it up a few weeks ago. It now hangs in our hallway. It actually looks really cool where it is.

We hung three paintings on it.

The alien painting is by Gloria Muriel. The gnome riding a dragon was a Christmas present my daughter painted for me three Christmases ago. The black and white dragon is by Becky Dreistadt.

We are very happy with the look of the hallway now. It is decidedly fun!

What is the most outrageous thing you have done in your home?… decorating wise. ; )

Please tell!

Siblings

Oh, how I hated my little sister growing up. Everything she did irritated me. It did not help that she was a little brute. She would cut off all of my barbies’ hair, draw on all of my baby dolls’ faces, bite me, punch me, and the most offensive of all: tattle. Of course, I was a sweet little angel…

It took us many years to get to the place we are today. A place of love and acceptance. I think she is an amazing human being. I am so proud to be her sister. She lives seven miles away and I still do not see her as often as I would like. But I know she is there. With a tethered string to my heart, she always can pull.

My own children get along surprisingly well. I do not know if it is the difference of being opposite genders. It just seems to work. But, lately, it has been a different story. They have been nitpicking each other. My daughter will boss my son around (I do not know where she gets it). He will hog the t.v. all night. The very fact that he has less homework than her can send them into a spiraling tizzy.

However, today, was a special day. A magical day, if you will…

My daughter clutched her backpack to her chest when she got home. She told my son she had gotten a surprise for him. She carefully unzipped the smallest pouch on her backpack and pulled out a tiny figurine. She handed it to my son. He held it reverently out in front of him.

It was a blue Pokemon figurine. Some kid was selling his old toys at school for a quarter a piece. (Whether this was allowed or not was for his parents to ponder). They quickly began researching the Pokemon figurines online. Never mind, that she bought herself three. I was amazed she gave him one.

Now they are pooling their money to go in together on more. The Pokemon purchased today are getting a much needed bath in the bathroom sink. I can see into the future and I know there will be a quarrel about whose Pokemon are whose. I am gifted that way. For now, I am enjoying the peace of a house filled with giggles and the splashes of soapy water. A moment that will be shortly broken by a sibling’s error. An inevitable moment. But for now, let’s relish in the magic. I can see the tethered string growing…

* I wrote this post when the kids were still in school. I kept meaning to publish it. Sorry for the delay!

It’s The Little Things: Anthropologie’s Layering Necklaces

20130717-142407.jpg

I remember when these first came out a couple of months ago. I was smitten. I wanted them all. I would put them in my cart. Then take them out. Then put them in. And so on. Then, they unexpectedly went half off during their additional 20% off sale a couple of weeks ago. And suddenly, they were affordable. I snatched up seven of them. They are back to being around 50% off, but I still think that is a good price. If there is not a link for the necklace, it is because it is sold out online. The stores still had plenty a few days ago.

No regrets.

They are amazing. I don’t even really layer them often. They are such pretty necklaces on their own. I have been wearing at least one a day. My rule for jewelry is: wedding ring plus one. I like to keep things simple. These layering pieces are me going a little crazy. Two necklaces at once! Whoa! She’s outta control!

There is this pretty beaded number with a poof ball at the end.

The classic black piece.

The small choker-like necklace. This is the link I have. But it is showing two necklaces. I have the short one. I wore it to Comic Con today!

My favorite rope one. I am wearing it in a post coming up on Sunday. Its twin may make a giveaway appearance in a few months. ; )

The layering shell-like creation.

I adore this one. It lays very coolly. Bohemian.

Leather beaded necklace.

It’s The Little Things: Having fun accessorizing. It makes an outfit complete.

Have you purchased any layering necklaces this summer? How are you styling them?

*The white dress is from Anthropologie last summer. The beige dress was a clearance Nordstrom Rack Free People find. The shoes in the white dress are Denim Bloom Floral Wedges from Anthropologie. I bought them for $34 using my birthday discount. They were originally $168. They are very tall. I am scared of walking in them, but they are lovely. They still have many sizes left.

“You look like belong in a commune.” Sexy?

It turns out, I don’t know men at all. The following outfits were worn because I thought my husband would like them. I thought they were sexy. Turns out, I do not know what sexy is. Oh, okay I do. But I wanted it to not be tight and revealing. I am a modest girl.

In this outfit, I thought I looked like an innocent milk maid hippie. Which is totally sexy, right? In any case, I love this outfit. I am wearing Anthropologie’s Colima Maxi Skirt in green. It comes in four colors. The striped pattern is not a belt, but part of the skirt. I paired it with an older Anthropologie eyelet top (bought many years ago).

My husband looked at me and said, “You look like you belong in a commune.”

That is all I am going to say about that.

Are you ready for a showdown? I am. “Sexy cowgirl?” My husband shook his head no to that question. Just no. Well, okay. I still wore this outfit. I really liked it. I am wearing a maxi skirt from Anthropologie last year. I scored it for $20. I picked up the top for $15 at Nordstrom Rack. The belt was another clearance find from Anthropologie for $20. The Anthropologie necklace was a steal at $15, originally $58. And the vintage Frye cowboy boots were $50 at the flea Market. Making the outfit head to toe, $120. Not bad for a cowgirl. Giddeyup!

This dress was much more my husband’s taste. It is what I chose to wear when we went and saw Jim Gaffigan on a date night. He was so funny. This is the second time we have seen him live and it was well worth it. The dress was a third cut find from Anthropologie called Mural Maxi dress. Making it approximately 73% off. I just saw a size 10 last week at my store, so I know they are still out there. I also paired it with my Simply Livly necklace.

What have been some fun outfits you have worn lately?

* P.S. my husband is a super nice guy. The sweetest. What he lacks in tact, he makes up for with love. So, please take what he said with a smile. It had me rolling on the ground. Our sense of humor is a bit odd. It was meant to be funny.
