Embroidered Bird

I like to search for vintage crewel on Etsy. I sometimes find some great unique pieces. Once you start looking, you will generally start seeing the same pattern over and over. So, you will know which pieces are pretty common.

A bit ago, I spotted this guy. And I knew. He was going to be perfect in our hallway bathroom. I had never seen one of his kind before. He reminded me of those pencil and hammer birds in Alice in Wonderland. That was my favorite part when I was little. My least favorite part was the broom dog. The one that had the broom for a head and a little one for a tail. It would shake me to my OCD core.

Okay, wait. Look how cute that dog is. Oh, he’s erasing the path. No. You missed a spot. There is a part of the path not erased! Hey, dog. You cannot leave with a giant spot just sitting there. Come back! Aaaah!

Anyhoo.

Our mirror has been transformed into a bright green creation. I think it looks amazing. One of my favorite things we’ve had done to the house.

But the bright green mirror had nothing to compliment it. I thought I was fine with that. Until I saw this wacky character.

Doesn’t he look perfect for an Alice In Wonderland themed house?

No broom dogs allowed.

It’s The Little Things: Dog Collars

20130717-112447.jpg

Dog Collars. The varieties are endless. The choices overwhelming. I like to accessorize my pet, without actually accessorizing my pet.

Enter the dog collar. Jewelry for your dog that nobody questions. He.He.

And I have two dogs, so you would think that I would have my fair share of collars.

But Ollie cannot wear a collar. His neck is too fat. He has too many rolls. This causes sores if he wears a collar.

So, it is just Murphy that gets to be adorned. Not adored. But adorned. They are both adored.

I found a seller on Etsy that makes wonderful dog collars. The shop is called Mod Dog. I have purchased four. The gnome version being one of them, of course.

20130717-112513.jpg

I just purchased another one this week, because I realized my “newest” one was three years old. Um, sorry dog. But the collar has held up so well. I purchased it in bees, because it reminded me of my dad (the beekeeper).

20130717-112545.jpg

This time, I purchased the deer collar, in the 3/4 inch size. I liked how whimsical it looked. Plus, I caught my dog munching on one of my bushes this last week, so it kind of fits him.

I have been in boutiques where dog collars are so pricey. I just purchased mine for $21, including shipping. And it comes with a one year guarantee.

It’s The Little Things: A dog with a pretty collar. Hey, it doesn’t always have to be deep. : )

Jenni’s Multicolored Dreamvest

20130713-181922.jpg

Oh yes. A rainbow vest. A crocheted rainbow vest. A rainbow fest.

I digress.

What a mess. (Don’t drink and blog.)

I purchased this 1960s multicolored vest off of Etsy. Can you believe it had been posted for a year and nobody had purchased it? I think it was waiting for me.

I wore it to the Rose Bowl Flea Market last Sunday. I ended up wearing it with the yellow dress below. I wanted to wear something vintage. But also something cool. As in, “not hot.” Of course, I believe this fits both labels. I also wanted my husband to be able to quickly find me in a crowd. I think this was pretty hard to miss.

First, I paired it with my Free People dress that I got from The Nordstrom Rack. The necklace was gifted to me from Simply Livly. It is perfectly bohemian. The shoes are my favorite. They are Deirdre Lace Wedges. I bought them during Anthropologie’s additional 20% off sale. Making these 52% off. Not my best discount, but I love them. They have actual crocheted looking lace on the sides of the shoes. The lace is very well incorporated.

I did not wear these shoes to the dusty flea market.

I wore my tried and true everyday ten year old sandals. The shoes I can run in. From zombies. Different story. (Please see don’t drink and blog above.)

I took a nap before these pictures. Hence the lines on my arm.

The other way I styled this vest was with my yellow Target dress that was $25. The necklace is an Anthropologie layering necklace. It is on sale. I purchased mine during the additional 20% off sale for $12. But it is still a good price at the $15 it currently is. It is called Bijouterie Layering Necklace in Medium. It is sold out online. My local store had ten in stock last week. If you cannot find one, maybe, just maybe, I have a couple for a giveaway in a few months. ; ). Anyway, I know they are in the stores. I have worn this necklace four times this week. Great find!

Do you have a piece of clothing that makes you smile?

This Week In Outfits

This week has been crazy.

We are still sorting through our mess. We should get the house back together by tonight. Maybe tomorrow morning. I am so very grateful to be able to get these projects done. So grateful. But I am exhausted! I have gotten very little sleep. I keep waking up expecting to hear my kids falling over a ladder on the way to the kitchen or something crashing in another room.

It is done. Well, almost. I still have to get the Otomi design stenciled in the bathroom. And rehang the embroidery.

But close enough…

I attempted to recreate outfits I wore in the last few days. Because we just now found the camera! But my eyes could barely open. My hair has not been washed in three days. Pretty times around here! So bare with me. I still want to show I was not running around naked! I am wearing a medium in the skirts and tops in the following pictures:

I wore this outfit to go to dinner and a movie on Sunday night with some girlfriends. We were celebrating Amy’s birthday. Happy Birthday Amy! We saw “The Great Gatsby.” It was very good. But now that song they play continuously throughout the movie is stuck in my head.

Still.

For the last couple of days.

But I love it!…

I am wearing an Anthropologie top I purchased last year, because it has dogs on it. Dogs! They are right up there with horses! But I actually own a dog. Or two. It is called Animal Kingdom Blouse. I paired it with a skirt I patiently waited for a great sale price on. It is called Sanoh Gauze Skirt. It was priced at $168, but I just purchased it for $39.95.

The necklace was a wonderful gift from Simply Livly on Etsy (I am giving away a similar necklace this week! Do not forget to enter!). I love the necklace. It goes with everything I own. Thank you Pam! The skirt runs large. I forgot this and purchased the medium. It is fine with a belt.

Recently, I purchased the Doily Skirt in blue from Anthropologie. It was on sale for $39.95. I could not pass it up. I do not know if it is still available in stores. It is sold out online. The link shows no longer available. But you can get the style number from it. I have it in cream, as well. The vibrant blue was mesmerizing. I like using it as a fun slip. This is how I wore it on a night I went out with my husband. This picture was actually taken almost three weeks ago. Before the chaos started. I am wearing it under an older dress from Anthropologie.

20130611-195412.jpg

I rarely wear jeans. And I NEVER wear shorts. But these in-between capris are the ones that hold my heart. I have had them for ten years. When I can fit in them, it makes me a happy girl. I purchased the Anthropologie Abstractions Tunic on a recent sale. I am also wearing the Simply Livly Milky Opaque White Icicle necklace in this picture. ‘Cause I love it!

Have you scored any good deals recently? Are you holding out for a big sale?

Have a great day!
