My “New” Babies

I bought some “new”babies two months ago. Where has the time gone? (I just realized I have not posted about them.). And they have all ready taken over my heart. Well, they are not babies, exactly. They are more like fluffy objects of joy. Otherwise known as pillows.

I have not bought new pillows in a while. It used to be quite an addiction for me. I have made pillows, not bought them. There really is a difference, I promise. I did buy a pillow while on vacation. But that does not count, because it was a souvenir. Do you see how I rationalize things? Imagine being married to me…

I had waited for these pillows to hit sale for a very long time. I think they came out in July of last year. The pillow was called Jacobean Pillow (in small) from Anthropologie. They sat in my cart and waited for mommy.

They finally went on sale for half price. I swooped in and rescued them. They sit at either end of my sofa.

Do you have a pillow addiction? What is your latest splurge?

P.S. I purchased these peonies at Albertson’s this week. I think they look like tissue paper. I am in love.

Balloon Gender Experiment

I try not to genderalize. Is that a word? Hmmmm… Probably not. Not gonna look it up. Lazy. Anyway, I try not to categorize my children into their gender roles. But sometimes… Well, sometimes that is a hard thing to do.

My children both got balloons at Disneyland the other night. My son picked blue. My daughter, pink. You can see where this is going.

Let us take a look at their balloons’ status for the week, shall we:

Day 7

By day 7, both balloons looked relatively the same. Sad. Except, I had some information I had been sitting on. Secret information.

And I am not going to rat anyone out. But, let’s just say, I believe the pink balloon would still be in the air if it had not been pummeled by a Nerf pellet on Day 5. Definitely not coming from a Nerf gun powered by the owner of the blue balloon.

Hey, I didn’t see anything. ; )

Did this ruin my little experiment? Well, no. I think it actually proved… Hmmm… Well, what did it prove? What was my point?

Boys and girls are different.

Wow! Profound. But, you all ready knew that…

I hope you enjoyed my weird and completely unnecessary experiment. At $8 a pop (pun not intended), I figured it would be great if the balloons could have some extra fun.

Have a great day!

Pasta Alla Vodka

“Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.” – Willy Wonka said it best!

Pasta, check. Cream, check. Alcohol, check. Sounds great to me!

I used the following recipe from Pioneer Woman to make this dish.

My dear friend had given me a giant bottle of vodka for Fourth of July last year (thank you Jessica!). She knows the quickest way to my heart. I wanted to use some of it in an unconventional way, and came across this pasta recipe. It was fantastic. I just did the following things differently than the original recipe:

I sautéed my onions for 6 minutes instead of 2. I added the garlic during the final minute. I have to have my onions thoroughly cooked. I’m weird that way.

I used 1/2 teaspoon of salt instead of 1/4 teaspoon.

I added diced rotisserie chicken.

I used frozen diced onions and minced garlic from a jar. Why do things yourself when someone else can do it for you?

This took me less than 25 minutes to make, start to finish.

Oh my! Look at the vodka simmering. Isn’t she pretty?

Lovely fattening cream. I adore you. Why must you create ripples on my thighs like you do in this sauce? I won’t take it personally.

I only had this parmesan on hand. It worked just fine!

This was so easy and delicious. Everyone, but myself, had giant second helpings. Unfortunately, self restraint must be made when a recipe swims in cream and butter. Everything in moderation! Enjoy!

Total cost for dinner: $10.89

Pasta $1
Rotisserie chicken $5
Parmesan $1
Cream $1.42
Vodka $0 (thanks again! I owe you! : ) )
French bread $1
Butter .57
Tomato puree .90

Thank you Pioneer Woman for another wonderful recipe to add to my rotation!

Please let me know if you try this!
