I try to not have two posts about clothes going up back to back, but I have been so ill for the last week, I have this one all ready to go. I apologize if you do not like outfit posts. Also, I may or may not post this weekend depending upon my medication kicking in or not. I do have other outfit posts ready to go, but I feel bad putting too many of those up in a row. I’ll just have to wait and see. Now on to the clothes…
My husband took one look at my outfit. His forehead furrowed. His mouth set.
Finally after five minutes of inner contemplation, he turned to me and bravely said, “I don’t get it.”
“What don’t you get?”
“Your top and bottom half our country but the dress has nothing to do with that.”
I just laughed.
Because I knew he would not be the only one who saw this outfit that way.
I have really wanted to explore more with plaid this season. Wear it differently. Unexpectedly.
And it does not get more unexpected than a dress filled with giant fish.
The Anthropologie Indigo Shoal Dress was one of my absolute favorite buys a few years ago. It is actually my daughter’s favorite item in my closet. I dread the day she can fit into it, because I do not know that I will see it again.
Nobody does flannel like Johnny Was (very similar flannel here). I love that they add embroidered details to their pieces (similar non-flannel shirt on sale here). Johnny Was sizing runs large. I get this question a lot, so I figured I would place it here. This is a small. I typically always wear a size small in this brand. I found my top at Nordstrom Rack either last year or the year before. Besides Johnny Was’s sale section on their site, and eBay, I think this is the best place to find the brand at a discount. I have said it before, but I adore that Johnny Was carries standard and plus sizes. Bravo to them! Last year they had an awesome Black Friday Sale that I hope they repeat this year.
Do you ever pair two things together that nobody else around you understands? Are you wearing a lot of flannel this season? What about fish? Fish and flannel. Hmmmm. Maybe I’m on to somethin’… Or maybe it’s just the prescription drugs.
Please do not forget to enter My Anthropologie Necklace Giveaway. It ends soon!
I love the fact that your dress is a totally different aesthetic than the rest of this look. It is stunning and so fun. I think every now and then we have to go out of our comfort zone and do what FEELS good….oh and every now and then we also have to NOT listen to our men! I hate when my man criticizes what I wear!
Feel better!
Angie from reasons to dress
Thank you so much Angie! I agree. I like to dress in what makes me happy. My husband just goes along with it. I think it is hilarious when he says something about what I am wearing! Of course, within reason. ; )
I hope you have a beautiful week!
Jenni
You look adorable as always! No, I wouldn’t have thought to put those pieces together but you totally make it work! And my hubs has lots of funny reactions to my fashion ideas too! Sorry you’ve been ill and hope you feel better! Of course you outfit posts are my favorite! 😀

Thank you Dawn Lucy! : ). They were next to each other in the closet so it was a happy accident. I am still sick! This better be over soon!
Have a happy week!

I Love your outfit combos and am always happy to see an outfit post. Feel better, hydrate and rest!!
Thank you Kindra! I like to post the outfit posts, too, but they are not the favorite of some of my friends and family so I feel bad when I do too many. You are so sweet! Thank you!
Have a delightful week!
Jenni
I love your outfit posts so post away. I did have to laugh at your husbands comments. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! I think his comments are funny, too. I am glad you enjoyed them!
Have a wonderful week!
Jenni
love all your posts but really LOVE your outfit posts so please post more!
wowzers! you look so absolutely gorgeous! wow! you are one breathtaking beauty in your awesome outfit! if you are fishing for compliments, then you are getting them! 😉
I only recently discovered Johnny Was upon moving to California from the east coast. Such a gorgeous aesthetic, but ouch, their prices are painful. I caved and bought a scarf at 20% off, because it’s gorgeous and their scarves never go on sale, it seems.
Btw, I really enjoy your outfit posts! I discovered you via the Anthro blog community, and I stayed because your writing style is always entertaining and engaging–which is true regardless of what content you choose to write about.
Thank you so much for your comment. Gosh, it was just so lovely. Thank you!
And Johnny Was is great. I agree about the prices! Last year on Black Friday, they had 40% off their full priced clothes. So, that was a nice treat. I love a lot of their tops right now, but will have to wait for a really good sale price!
Have a splendid week!
Jenni
Oh Jenni! Feel better!!!!
That fish dress is incredible. My husband questions my choices sometimes with fear in his eyes. Sometimes he is right but mostly I feel he is wrong.
I keep scrolling up to look at the fish dress. It really is stunning and unusual. Love it! How did I miss that at Anthro?
Thank you Cynthia! Would you believe I am typing this with a fever?! I cannot shake this thing. I actually cried tonight because I am so tired of feeling ill. Hopefully it will be over soon. And I have to remind myself that I am lucky and there are people who wish they only had the flu.
My husband usually always expresses some sort of view on my clothes. And then he immediately takes it back and tries to make it seem like he meant it as a compliment. Highly entertaining getting dressed around here! : )
The fish dress is about four years old, I think. It was in the middle of my weight loss, so I bought a size 10 to fit into. It has a cool silhouette by itself. And the sleeveless aspect of it isn’t so bad.
Have a lovely week!
Jenni
That’s what individual fashion in all about! Mixing it up w/ different things! You’re awesome at that, & most importantly, I think you always pull it off! I love those boots! I always wear my cowboy boots w/ dresses! That’s what I’ve worn the past 2 Christmases! In fact, I think I only actually wore them once w/ jeans, to a rodeo, of course! 🙂
I really, really love the embroidery on that flannel! I’ve been really wanting a plaid flannel shirt this year! I love the feminine touch that embroidery gives the flannel. I think I got rid of all my flannels after the grunge ’90s left my wardrobe! Now, though I love the look of gingham oxfords & that style, I think they always look too boxy on me. To stiff, & just not right. I think they don’t lay right. Do you know what I mean. But that shirt looks great, I’ll have to try to find a reasonably priced one bc I adore that embroidery!
So sorry you’ve been sick! I hope your medication helps soon! Also, thanks always for your sweet comments on my blog! It always makes me so happy! I never respond bc I figure it’s easier to do on your blog when I comment! It’s obvious that only family really read my blog, & they never comment, so I always appreciate yours! That’s part of the fun of blog link ups too, new visitors & friends like you!
Feel better soon & rest lots this weekend w/ your family!
:)Rebecca
Thank you so much Rebecca! I am the same way with cowboy boots! I don’t recall ever wearing them with pants. I adore your blog. In fact, I was just talking to my husband about it because you make me want to go see that new movie out (my sick brain cannot think of the title right now) with the kids soon. He is working crazy hours this week, so it will have to wait. But I cannot wait! Thank you for your review! : )
Have a wonderful week!
Jenni
I adore your outfit posts! You’re so creative with putting things together. I’ve been really into plaid this year too. I recently found a cute plaid quilted skirt at Kohls and a plaid tunic with with a tie at the waist from Charlotte Russe($15)! Not to wear together, of course! Rebecca, I know what you mean about some of the shirts being too boxy. That’s why I was excited to find this plaid tunic. It’s very soft and longer and flowy. Just right! Hope you feel better soon, Jenni!
Thank you Kerry! What great pieces you found! I think the hunt is the best part! I have a pastel Ralph Lauren plaid skirt I bought for $11 last year that I need to wear soon. I have worn it with a tulle slip underneath. I need to show the outfit on the blog. Thank you for reminding me! : ). A tie at the waist would be awesome for plaid. I like when tops have a little more shape.
Thank you again! Have a fun week!
Jenni
Get better soon, Jenni! And if you want to run nothing but outfit posts for a week straight, well, you can! It’s your blog, ya know!
Anyway, I love the punny post title almost as much as I love the outfit itself. It’s so cute and quirky – sort of elegant cowgirl chic? I can see why your daughter wants to steal this dress, it’s a beaut!
Thank you Gwen! I know about the posts, but I do feel guilty because I do know people who do not like them as much. Tomorrow I have a whole review post! I am sure they will love that! ; )
I am so glad you got the title! My husband did not get it at all (hmmm. Along with the outfit!). I was worried I would be the only one who got the title, so thanks for mentioning it! And thank you about the outfit! I had fun in it!
Have a zippy week!
Jenni
So sorry to hear you are under the weather. I hope it passes quickly.
That dress is INSANE!!! I want it! I will arm wrestle your daughter for it. ; )
bisous
Suzanne
Thank you Suzanne! It has been a week and a half. I hope it is over soon. I plan on Lysoling the whole house in the morning when the kids go to school. This illness will not win!
My daughter is tough. Although she is pretty petite. That is a match I would like to see. Of course, I’m not ready to give up my dressyet. I’ll fight you both for it. ; )
Have a fabulous week!
Jenni
I hope you feel better soon! I enjoy all your posts.
This is such a creative look. I would never think to put all those pieces together. Your creativity is one of the reasons I enjoy your blog so much. This outfit looks very comfortable and a look that would make you feel good-happy. I love outfits like that make the wearer feel happy. This would be an awesome outfit for a country fish fry. I can see you dancing to the music in that beautiful dress and cowboy boots.
Awwww. Thank you! You are so sweet to say that. I love that visual! Now I need to get to a fish fry! : ). I wish I could take credit for the outfit, but it was by chance that they landed together in the closet. I loved that the jewel color tones in each matched. I have a post with Ollie in it going up soon! Either Tuesday or Wednesday. : )
Thank you again! Have a jubilant week!
Jenni
Bring on the outfit posts, I love ’em! Especially when they’re as fabulous as this one. Fish and plaid, why not?! P x
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! I feel the same way. Why not?! Tomorrow I am wearing dogs on my top. Maybe I’ll throw in some plaid there, too! : )
Have a cheery week!
Jenni
I love your outfits. I love this dress! And it looks great paired with the plaid shirt.
I hope you feel better soon.
Thank you! I am glad that you liked it! : ). I am loving plaid right now!
Sweet dreams!
Jenni
Thank you for the info on Johnny Was. I love love plaid/flannel and will have to check his stuff out, especially on Black Friday!
Feel better soon!
Thanks Alicia! My Nordstrom Rack stopped carrying the brand. So, so sad. But I would check one near you. Usually the prices cannot be beat there. Around 75% off. I need to pull more of my Johnny Was stuff out of my closet. I have some really fun pieces from over the years I need to share!
Have a great week!
