Fish Tartan

I try to not have two posts about clothes going up back to back, but I have been so ill for the last week, I have this one all ready to go. I apologize if you do not like outfit posts. Also, I may or may not post this weekend depending upon my medication kicking in or not. I do have other outfit posts ready to go, but I feel bad putting too many of those up in a row. I’ll just have to wait and see. Now on to the clothes…

My husband took one look at my outfit. His forehead furrowed. His mouth set.

Finally after five minutes of inner contemplation, he turned to me and bravely said, “I don’t get it.”

“What don’t you get?”

“Your top and bottom half our country but the dress has nothing to do with that.”

IMG_0544.JPG

I just laughed.

Because I knew he would not be the only one who saw this outfit that way.

I have really wanted to explore more with plaid this season. Wear it differently. Unexpectedly.

IMG_0541.JPG

And it does not get more unexpected than a dress filled with giant fish.

The Anthropologie Indigo Shoal Dress was one of my absolute favorite buys a few years ago. It is actually my daughter’s favorite item in my closet. I dread the day she can fit into it, because I do not know that I will see it again.

Nobody does flannel like Johnny Was (very similar flannel here). I love that they add embroidered details to their pieces (similar non-flannel shirt on sale here). Johnny Was sizing runs large. I get this question a lot, so I figured I would place it here. This is a small. I typically always wear a size small in this brand. I found my top at Nordstrom Rack either last year or the year before. Besides Johnny Was’s sale section on their site, and eBay, I think this is the best place to find the brand at a discount. I have said it before, but I adore that Johnny Was carries standard and plus sizes. Bravo to them! Last year they had an awesome Black Friday Sale that I hope they repeat this year.

Do you ever pair two things together that nobody else around you understands? Are you wearing a lot of flannel this season? What about fish? Fish and flannel. Hmmmm. Maybe I’m on to somethin’… Or maybe it’s just the prescription drugs.

Summer Loungin’

I am being good this month and not making any big purchases. I have only bought the
Paisley Trails blouse in white from Anthropologie for the $30 sale price. I have not received it yet, so I do not know how it will work. My sister gave me a $50 gift card to Anthropologie for Mother’s Day. Thanks Mandi! I bought the Geocut Patent Sandals with it in red. They are awesome!

We just put so much money into our house, I need to show self restraint. And I am.

So sad to be an adult.

July is my birthday month. But I am holding out for a good sale on some items I want. I might be boring then, as well. Of course, it is Comic Con in July, so it should be five days of fun outfits! I have them all planned out. I do not dress up in a costume. But I dress up in fun. Yes, I said, “in fun.”

So, I am loungin’. Summer has started. My in-laws are here. I took these pictures last week, because there is no way my mother-in-law is catching me taking photos of myself. I would look like a crazy person.

Yeah, I know.

Anyhoo, this week, I am showing the dresses I wear around the house or for quick trips to the grocery store. I adore Anthropologie’s lounge section. I always wear their chemises out of the house.

I am naughty that way.

In this picture, I am wearing Anthropologie Tilda Chemise. I bought this a couple of months ago. I think it is sold out now. Here is the link, but I think it is dead.

It is so comfy. It has the brightest blue stripes. It washes and dries well.

This is a chemise I have left over from my heavier days. It is Anthropologie Cinch & Flow Maxi Chemise. I used to wear this as pool cover up, because it was see through in my larger size. But now the extra fabric acts as a barrier. I think.

This is not a chemise. It is a Johnny Was dress I purchased at Christmastime. I believe it was called Cassie Short Sleeved Maxi. It is no longer being sold. Johnny Was has so many cute things right now, but I am being a good girl. Here is a link to their website.

I love the grey with the colorful embroidery. It is casual and pretty.

The necklace I am wearing in the pictures was gifted to me from Simply Livly on Etsy. It is called Yellow Linen Wood Necklace With Cream Ribbed Organic Cotton. I LOVE it. I am wearing it with a Target clearance dress from awhile back, in the picture above. It makes even the most casual outfit pop. Thank you Pam!

Are you lounging around this summer? What is your favorite piece to wear?

Johnny Was

Let me tell you about a brand I adore: Johnny Was. It is based out of Los Angeles. The clothes are fun and very bohemian. They are also very expensive. Unfortunately, too expensive for me. However, they do have good sales. My favorite thing about this company is that it caters to women of all shapes and sizes. When I was a plus size, it was so hard to find clothes that were pretty and fun. It is refreshing to see this company embrace all women. Every woman is beautiful and we should all be able to shop where we would like to. I applaud them for understanding that.

I went to Nordstrom Rack last week. I had $40 in Nordstrom Bucks burning a hole in my pocket. I browsed the rack and noticed that they were sorely lacking in my usual size medium. But that has never stopped me and soon I had an armful of size smalls and larges. I headed eagerly to the dressing room.

I dragged my poor son with me, because my daughter was at a sleepover. When the lady showed us to a dressing room, she said, “Here you go, a nice big one for the two of you.” I told her there was no way he was going in with me and not being scarred for life. I figured he could just talk to me from outside of my fitting room door. She did even better, and let him sit in the empty dressing room next to me. That was so sweet and kind. I really appreciated it.

The woman in charge of the dressing room said to me, “Oh my gosh, you’re the Johnny Was girl!”

Now, this is slightly embarrassing. Every time I am there (usually once every 6-8 weeks) I ask if they have had a shipment come in. Because it only seems to happen once a year. She told me a shipment came in five days ago and she thought of me. But I had not left my number. They had been selling out like hotcakes. Darn! But I found three Johnny Was goodies, anyway! I ended up saving around 75% after using my rewards.

This shirt is a size small and I love it! I will wear this with my colored jeans. I paired this with my red pilcro pants from Anthropologie that I bought on sale for $32.50. The shirt has frayed pieces of fabric all over it. I love this. Maybe it looks like I got into a fight (hey, that’s my Johnny Was!), but it looks romantic to me.

This flannel embroidered shirt spoke to me. It is a size small. It is so feminine with just a hint of masculinity. I will pair it with jeans for casual days. But I wanted to try dressing it up, and the third picture showcases that. I am wearing Free People Ginger Fishtail Maxi in that picture. Which way do you like better? I cannot decide. I only own three pairs of denim jeans. I just love skirts and dresses. I feel sexy in the jeans, but I feel like myself in the skirt.

Oh no! I am wearing my belt the way my husband hates! Whatever shall I do? Love it, that’s what! I am smitten with this shirt/dress. I do not know what exactly this was supposed to be. Johnny Was runs a little big and this is a large. I automatically thought dress when I saw it hanging on the rack, but it could be a tunic. I could not resist the sweet red stitching. This was my favorite buy of the day. The second picture is what it looked like before I styled it.

My son was so sweet that day. We headed over to Five Guys for hamburgers when we were done shopping. He had to get my drink for me and grab the peanuts. He got the order for us when it was called. He is turning into such a little gentleman, just like his daddy. He melted my heart that day. I almost felt guilty for dragging him to a clothing store. Almost.

We did play Monster Hunter together when we got home. And then we watched “Say Yes to the Dress.”… Yep, traumatic day. Good thing there were brownies.

So, which was your favorite Johnny Was piece? Do you now have some sort of “Johnny” song stuck in your head? Me too! Mine is the Poe version.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by to read this little blog! I appreciate it.
