It’s The Little Things: A Giraffe Hook

I first wrote about The Raja Hook way back in March. And then I waited. I knew I could be patient enough for a sale price. But then Emily Henderson created a beautiful office space a few weeks ago and posted it on her blog. And guess who was the star? That’s right. The sweet giraffe hook.

I knew after that, he would probably be selling quickly.

So, I scooped him up and got a 20% off adjustment on him (during the home promotion at Anthropologie last week).

We finally got him hung up in our hallway yesterday. I love this little vignette near him.

The tray and vase are Polish pottery and were gifts from my sweet grandmother (I am from Polish descent on my grandfather’s side). I would be devastated if anything ever happened to them. The elephant was a gift from my friend. The little toad with the stick in his mouth was a toy my father brought back from Bali when my son was two. The chest was from Target’s global line many years ago. It was a great buy at $30, but I would love to replace it with a true antique one day.

My husband did have to punch two holes in the back of the hook because he used screws instead of nails to have it flush to the wall. I like screws because the hook is going to be a bit heavy with his neck draped in necklaces and I am not sure traditional nails would support that weight.

Of course, he had to have a gnome friend to keep him company. I wonder what he is whispering in his ear?

Or maybe I don’t want to know.

It’s the little things: a sweet practical hook. It is functional and fun. It is fun-ctional.

I think this hook would look cool in a great many settings. The hook also comes in an elephant shape. I might have to get that one on sale, because I love the green stripe on it.

Adorable in a nursery. Whimsical in an office. Practical as a bra hanger in the laundry room. The possibilities for this little guy are endless. Let’s stop at bras, though.

Do you have a fun-ctional piece in your home? What is it? My giraffe might need a mate.

P.S. Did you see that we hung up my daughter’s burlap art? I wrote about the dilemma of where to hang those pieces here. I thought this could be a small update, too. It is a happy accident that the burlap color and texture in the paintings play off the giraffe hook in a nice harmony. The light switch plate also has a neat texture of nubby linen and completes my need of threes in the space.

  1. I just adore all the art in your house. Really it is a bit like walking into an Anthro store.

I can see why you love that giraffe hook. Very sweet with the necklaces. You definately need the elephant too.

    bisous

    • Thank you Suzanne. I love art. My grandmother and mother took us to so many art museums growing up and always had stuff hanging up. I cannot handle bare walls. Thankfully my husband feels the same way.

I want that elephant. He is so cute. I do think he would be in the laundry room as a bra holder, though. I need one and I like functional pieces.

      Have a wonderful Friday!

  2. Glad you got the giraffe hook (and a price adjustment too!) I’m glad he has a gnome to keep him company.

We have a similar frog in our house. I forget where I got it. That vase and tray are beautiful.

I love the art in your house and how you’ve decorated. Thanks for sharing.

    • Thank you Liana. Oh! I love frogs. I want to sneak over to this hotel near us and take my kids frog hunting (and releasing) at night, but I have not worked up the courage. Their pond is full of them and I think it will be fun. Maybe next week. Check the news to see if I am arrested. ; )

Thank you about the decorating, too. I love to fill our house. It is definitely not for everyone but it makes us happy.

      Have a delightful Friday!

  3. I just love your hallway. Great placement of your hook and your daughters artwork! I would be careful about that gnome though. I don’t trust him. 😉

    • Thank you Cynthia. That gnome is the oldest of the lot. He was an odd toy in ABC Carpet and Home in New York. Somehow him and two others were clearanced out. I do always wonder about him. It is kind of like a back story to a horror film. I just like to think of him as Papa Smurf or the wizard gnome. He is looking at me from the hallway now. He can see me sleep. All night. Maybe I didn’t think this through…

Have sweet dreams. I am going to try…

  4. Oh, he’s so cute Jenni! Glad he lives at your house now! We are all about giraffes at our house lately……. it’s my sons favorite animal. I think I am going to do a giraffe post on Saturday since it’s World Giraffe Day, to show the new 4ft. stuffed friend Richard recently got for potty milestones, and different pics from the zoos. Also, I was just at Kohl’s and Macy’s today, and found a ton of cute giraffe tops! It’s is hard to decide what to add to my wardrobe!

I think I am going to make lasagna with some of the leftover pasta sauce too – loving it!

    • Thank you Heather! I cannot wait for that post! And woo hoo on Potty milestones! Oh man, those are the days that your body forgets. I cannot wait to see his friend. And if you got a top! Too cool!

I have not made lasagna with it yet. Please let me know how that turns out. I am out of sauce. : (. I need to make more. It is comforting to me when I have it frozen in the freezer knowing I have a dinner almost completely ready. Right now my freezer is being taken over with homemade ice cream. I cannot stop making it. I have a problem!

      Have a happy Friday!

  5. That little guy is so cute! I wishlisted him and the elephant now. I would love to put them in my boys’ room…but I would need a good sale. I can’t put anything in a little boys’ room that either can’t be destroyed or won’t be a large cost if destroyed 🙂

Your house is so fun. My walls are so boring. I need to do something about that. I am the worst about house decorating…so my house stays boring 🙂

    • Thank you Alicia. Those would be so good in a boy’s room. I used to really decorate my kids’ rooms, but they always get messy and then I get sad. So, I barely do hardly anything any more. They are always in our living and family rooms anyway. We are firm believers in not having electronics in children’s rooms, so they are out in the main rooms a lot.

I have seen pictures of your house and I think it looks warm and loving. I would definitely not call it boring. I never did a lot to the house when my kids were babies. There is just no time! Now that they are both in school and can actually clean, it is so much easier.

I hope you get them both on a great sale price!

      Have a sweet Sunday!
