I had the Salta Shirt Dress in my wishlist for a very long time (I am so sorry, it is sold out and I could not find a similar enough dress to warrant a link. I have seen this dress on eBay). It was one of the items I was waiting for a great popback price on at Anthropologie.
I finally was able to purchase it for a fantastic price and with a birthday gift card.
I was worried because it did not have the best reviews online.
The original dress had layered sleeves.
By now you may have noticed that mine does not. That is because I cut them off. I liked the dress so much more once I did. Buying it for a huge discount allowed me to see the potential in this dress.
Fashion is all about risks, after all.
For instance, once again I left the house with the back of my dress unbuttoned.
It is unfortunately becoming my signature look.
The cute embroidered fox necklace I paired with the dress was a Christmas gift from my Mother. I love it so much. Similar Animal Totem Necklaces can be found from KnitKnit on Etsy here. I love asking for jewelry from my mom, because I always think of her when I wear a piece she has gifted me.
I purchased these boots from Ross when my son was four for $13. He is 11 now. I would call them a good purchase.
Have you ever altered an item of clothing you purchased with scissors? Did it work out or were you left with a mess?
I was happy to have loved the new look of the dress.
But I will admit, I did have a nervous moment or two as the shears hit the fabric.
Thank goodness for vineyards.

The unbuttoned dress looks like you were just caught fooling around in the vineyard ; )
I have cut pieces before. One time I almost totally ruined the item…don’t try to rip a cotton dress that is cut on a bias…because it does not rip straight! I wound up with something that looked like an ice skating dress. Throughly disappointing. Another time I cut a t-shirt to make it into a v-neck and it turned out fine.
You have a great collection of boots.
bisous

Ha! I did not even think of that. ; ). There were other people there. It was a busy day at the vineyards that day.
I think cutting a t-shirt into a v-neck would be hard! My skill revolves strictly in sleeve removal. I tried to cut off a tag from a scarf the other day and ended up cutting a hole in the scarf!
Thank you about the boots! : ). Ditto!
Have a gorgeous week!

The dress looks great. I never would have guessed that you modified it.
I had a turtleneck microfiber top (for skiing in) that drove me crazy. The turtleneck was way too tight. I cut it off and made it into a crew neck top. That was low risk though because it was all about function and I didn’t really care about how the final product looked!
Thank you Liana! Turtlenecks deserve to be cut! I cannot handle them. I am glad it worked out for you! : ).
I hope your week is fabulous!

I’ve actually gotten pretty “scissor-happy” lately! I figured it’s worth trying with things that were in the Goodwill pile anyway.I cut a jersey dress into a tunic and now wear it all the time with leggings. Over the summer I cut the straps off a sundress and wore it as a skirt. I’ve had a few fails as well, but it was fun to play around anyway. Your dress looks adorable!
That is so cool that you made it into a tunic! So creative! I was happy just cutting off sleeves! I have been wanting to try the sundress into a skirt thing! I am glad to know it works! And thank you! : )
Have a lovely week!

such a cute dress! I wouldn’t even know it once had layered sleeves hahaha! I have taken scissors to many items of clothing before…not always with a good outcome. My most recent cut was to an anthro dress and I realize now I never ever wear the left over skirt…it’s more like an apron now! sometimes we just can’t resist!
Thanks Melodee! That is funny and sad about the Anthro dress. Although an extra apron always comes in handy. ; ).
Sweet dreams!

Such a pretty dusky pink. I should start trying to cut stuff that doesn’t work or that I was going to get rid of anyway. Hmmmm… I do have a shirt in mind. Maybe I’ll get brave. The only thing I’ve ever cut up was when I was a teenager and I’d turn worn out jeans into shorts.
Thank you Cynthia! Oh man, I find cut up things all over my house with a teenager. She is much braver than me. Of course, I sometimes throw the finished products away. ; ).
Sweet dreams!

I have had the back tie removed from a dress that didn’t really need it. I absolutely hate them on women’s dresses.
Hmmmm. I never noticed a back tie before. I think I like them. I don’t know. : ). Although when I ordered my wedding dress it had a giant bow on the butt that I wanted removed. Thank you for sharing! : )
Have a wonderful week!
