It’s The Little Things: Put A Scarf On It

I have been thinking a lot about scarves lately. I have been seeing them pop up all over Instagram. Yesterday I was at Anthropologie and as I wandered the beautiful store, the scarves seemed to be whispering to me, “Cozy,” they murmured. “Flattering,” they promised. “Unique,” they softly said as they caught my eye and winked.

But I live in California.

Buying an expensive scarf just isn’t practical. For my lifestyle. And my budget.

I guess you could say that I am married to Warm Weather but I don’t mind flirting with Cold Weather’s attractive cousins. temperature trollop I ignored their siren calls and promised them I would be back when they went on sale (especially this temptress).

I happened to be at a different mall later in the day. And I also found myself at Target. I had actually wanted to go to Target that day to view a scarf after seeing it on myfavoritethings25 Instagram feed (sorry, I do not know how to link to Instagram). My Target store did not have that scarf, but they did have the plaid and other patterned one above. Since plaid and blanket scarves seem to be the trend of the season (and leopard. Leopard. Leopard. Leopard. Put a spot on it), I scooped them up for around $30 for both (most scarves at Target are on 20% off sale through the end of today and buy one get one 50% off online).

At the mall, I went to Forever 21. They had a wall full of scarves. I did not purchase one.

But I spotted this blue and black flannel number for less than $10 there and I think it is pretty.

H&M did not have the scarf selection I was expecting. But they did have two different patterned blanket scarves hidden in the clothing section that were huge. The pattern was pretty. This picture is not them. I did not get a picture of them. I had all ready broken a $2 ring at Forever 21 and guilt-purchased it, I did not want to drop anything else and have to pay for it in reaching for my camera. Aren’t I helpful? But I will share this:

I will admit that I am clueless about styling scarves. That is why I like to buy infinity scarves. They are easy. I like easy. But most of the scarves I admire lately are not infinity. What is a girl to do? Well, I found this video on You Tube and the tutorial to make a regular scarf look like an infinity scarf was so simple. Most importantly, it works!

Are you a scarf styling genius? I have heard that you can make a scarf into a vest? Do you know how to do that? I’m just happy I managed to get the thing around my neck.

It’s The Little Things: more accessories! I love the cooler seasons! Shhhhh! Don’t tell Warm Weather.

    • Oops^
I figured out the scarf vest thing this summer & had a ball finding scarves that it worked on!! I ❤️ Scarves which is good since I live in Kansas. We need them. And lots if them.

      • You definitely do need them in Kansas! I love the colors that you have going on right now! So beautiful! My father’s family hailed from Kansas. He always talks about the summers he spent there.

Scarves are so much fun! I wore two this weekend!

        Have a terrific Tuesday!

      • You have Kansas ties too! All my favorite blogs have Kansas ties. I didn’t realize you had family from Kansas. That is just too funny. I keep stumbling onto Kansas blogs. Ad astra per aspera! My family lived in Kansas for a long time and we really enjoyed it. I keep finding blogs that I really like and then learn they have Kansas ties. There must be a secret Kansas aesthetic I am drawn to but can’t put into words. Have a beautiful day!

  1. That scarf totally matches the painting behind you 🙂

I always thought scarves just looked bulky on me, but I’ve been borrowing a geometric one fr my daughter lately and actually bought a couple too.

    • I did not even notice that! That is too funny!

I am glad to not be the only one who just discovered scarves. It has been fun playing with them. A geometric one sounds pretty!

      Have a super week!

    • I don’t watch Portlandia but I have seen the bird thing a few times. ; )

I bet you get a lot of uses from scarves where you live. I cannot wait to see them this winter on your blog!

      Have a fun week!

  2. I go crazy if anything is around my neck – turtlenecks – scarves – a buttoned up jacket or blouse. Scarves make everyone look so chic plus they hide “chicken neck” as I get older but I just can’t bear it. That scarf looks so chic on you! The colors are great.

    • I used to feel the same way Cynthia! And I still cannot bear a turtleneck. Ack! I hate them. But I do not mind a scarf so much. I think it is because I know I can remove it if necessary.

      And thank you! : )

      Have a marvelous Tuesday!

  3. OOOHHHH, I really love scarves! Though I too live in a warm weather state, I wear them a lot! They can totally change an outfit or spice up a boring t shirt & jeans! I bought the huge, plaid blanket from groopdealz recently (very similar to your target one & a faux Zara) & was super disappointed that it’s a very thick material. The picture looked like regular material, not so hot & thick! I actually just today googled how to tie it bc it’s huge! I know a few ways that I tie my others, bc they are regular scarf size, I guess. I love infinity scarves too bc they are so easy, but look so fabulous!

I hope you enjoy your scarves, I love them both!

    • Thank you Rebecca! I do not even know what would do with a thick giant scarf. Yikes! I am glad you figured it out. I bet it is gorgeous. You have the best taste in accessories. I would wear anything in your closet!

      Have a lovely week!

    • Thank you Dawn Lucy! I would love to have a count. ; ). I actually have quite a few too. I have been gifted them over the years and they have just been hanging up. I think this will finally be the year I break them out.

      Have a beautiful week!

  4. oh, that striped scarf you’re wearing is perfect! I am a scarf addict- everything from piles of silk, to printed poly, to thick knitted things. Fortunately I have a range of weather to wear them, I guess. I just bought some fancy wool and started knitting obsessively and then realized that maybe I don’t even want to wear this scarf…fortunately the boyfriend was eyeing it and so maybe I can get props by ‘gifting’ it to him!!

You can wear a silk scarf in almost any weather though. I miss the old days when Anthropologie displayed scarves on mannequins- there were a lot of good tying and knotting ideas! I saved a bunch of the images, but there are also some good scarf tying videos with tons of ideas on youtube!

    • Are you talking about the scarf that you started on Instagram? Those colors are gorgeous! Lucky boyfriend! And thank you about my scarf. It was fun to wear!

I do not remember anthropologie doing that. Darn. I could have used that kind of inspiration.

      Have a happy week!

  5. I love a good scarf, though I don’t wear them as much when I have young kids/babies, as the baby always pulls them off! I think I can start to wear a few now that Macy is older. I need to look into the plaid Target scarf. It looks awesome. I bought a bunch of lighter summer/spring scarves from Forver 21 for $2 this summer, so I am pretty set on that front. Anthro has beautiful scarves, but they never seem to make it sale though 🙁

    • Thank you Alicia! Sad story. Went to cut the tags off of it and cut a hole in it. It is barely noticeable, but it is a bummer. Great deals on those Forever 21 scarves. I went back there this week and got a $5 scarf that I love. $2 is a great price! I missed out on a popback of a beautiful scarf last year. I still kick myself for not scooping it up fast enough.

      Have a lovely Wednesday!

  6. Loving the 2 you picked up at Target. I am seeing the plaid scarves as quite the trend this year. I love scarves as well and really should wear them more than I do.

    • Thank you Heather! I agree. I see plaid scarves everywhere! I would love to find a lighter one. I wore this one today.

      Have sweet dreams!
