Oh! The smell of this cake baking throughout the house is absolutely amazing. It is an aphrodisiac to the male senses. This is my husband’s very favorite thing. I normally make this with peaches, but they are not in season right now. Strawberries happen to be on sale for $1 a pound here. I substituted one pound of strawberries for the peaches. I think that makes this cake less than $2 to make.
The recipe is from the lovely Ina Garten. Here is the link.
You will never regret making this cake. It poofs up like magic in the oven. It is a cinch to whip together. Even with time accounted to chop the fruit, the cake cannot take more than ten minutes to make. It is delicious. You will be a hero. Ina Garten’s recipe states it should bake for 50-55 minutes. My cake took 83 minutes to bake in the oven at 325 convect bake. Make sure your toothpick comes out clean. At 55 minutes, my cake was still very jiggly in the middle. And, whilst I have nothing against jiggly… afterall, I am that very adjective myself… I do not want a jiggly cake.
I serve it straight out of the oven with vanilla ice cream spooned on top. The peach cake is better than the strawberry version. I will post pictures of that one in the summer. Until then, what could be better than warm cinnamon and sugar cake melded with strawberries and creamy cold ice cream melting in your mouth?… I cannot think of anything.
I think Ina Garten is amazing for coming up with this recipe. Enjoy!
looks yummy.
Thank you Robbi! I am not a fruit dessert girl, but my husband loves it!
Thank you for commenting and reading. It is very much appreciated.
Have a great day!

This sounds delicious, can’t wait to try with peaches and cherries. I went and checked out the link, and many 5 star reviews. Your recipes all sound so yummy and rich. Did you lose all that weight eating this food? Are you keeping the weight off eating this great stuff?
I love the peach version. To be honest, fruit desserts are my husband’s thing not mine. I had that one spoonful seen in the pic and that is all… I have a chocolate chip cookie post coming up. I use weight watchers. So, it is all about the points. I had two chocolate chip cookies for my lunch one day. It is about what you are willing to sacrifice. I have kept the weight off. Knock on wood. But it is a daily struggle against my love for food. I typically save most of my points for dinner, because I want to be able to eat what my family eats.
Anyway, sorry so longwinded! I have a weight loss post coming up in the next couple of weeks, if you are interested.
Thank you for commenting! It is always appreciated! Have a great day! : )

I’m not a fruit dessert person either, but that peach cake sounds really yummy! I’m going to try that for sure. Could you add chocolate chips to this one, do you think?
By the way, earlier this week, I was talking about my b-day with the lil guy, and he was saying that it was HIS birthday (not mine, apparently). We were talking about b-day cake and he said he wants “Jenni cake” and then proceeded to talk about that cake you made for about half an hour….when we gonna eat Jenni cake? Where’s Jenni cake? Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!! You made quite an impression on him…I don’t think he’s ever going to come to your house not expecting something yummy in your pretty dessert holder from now on. First it was cookies and now onto Jenni cake. 🙂
Awww… I need to make another cake for him. Or just give him a tub of frosting! I miss him. Hopefully I can see him this week. I hope you guys had fun. I realized yesterday, you did not borrow the shoes I was supposed to get to you. Darn!
I know about fruit desserts. But, your husband would like this. So would dad. Unfortunately, chocolate chips would not work in this cake. Let’s save the chocolate for Jenni’s cake.
Talk to you soon! I love you!
