Pencil Bouquets

I am about to say something shocking…Something nobody talks about. This is top secret information. Are you ready? Okay, here it goes… Kids make messes.

What? You all ready knew that? Well, then, you are ahead of the game. Let’s move along…

I was so tired of our dining room table being covered in art supplies. “Pick up your pencils,” can only be said so many times before you want to stab one through your eye.

The other day I found myself once again cleaning off the table and relishing in an empty house as the children were at school. But it was getting tedious. And if we know anything, besides the fact that kids are messy, it is that I am lazy. I saw my empty vases just sitting there all by their lonesome… Waiting for flowers that were never going to be placed in them. I looked down at my fistful of colored pencils. And, well, you can guess where this is going…That is right! I just shoved them in. And they exploded outward so prettily. Almost like a bouquet of flowers.

No more pencils rolling all over the floor. No more yells from an overwhelmed mommy. Just a pretty little neat collection of pencils.

The vases in these pictures are vases from Anthropologie that are stacked. Unfortunately, they no longer sell them. I do not have a fondness for any of the vases they are currently selling. The only ones I might consider would be this lava flow vase in yellow. or the pretty Majorca Purl Vase that is on sale right now.

I had no idea this would make me so happy. It is the little things, isn’t it?

  1. I like the Majorca Purl Vase in blue! but wait a sec…
What is that flower plate thingy between the pencil vases?? Did you make it?? It’s pretty!
And I love your chair and table cross! I really want to come visit you! lol

Kids are messy.. yeah.. I’m overwhelmed a lot of time.. but I guess my daughter is tidy for her age I think. When she doesn’t tidy up by herself, I tell her that I’m just going to throw them away! And I do put them in the garbage if she doesn’t!

    • That is a great idea about the garbage. I have packed stuff up in garbage bags, but always end up giving the items back after they behave. I am a tyrant with too soft a heart.

Keiko, you are welcome over any time! My friends and I each made one of those wreaths during our creative ventures. It was a lot of fun. It is made from an old book. Thank you for the compliment.

I love that you changed your comment tab on your site. Unfortunately, my ipad is the first one invented. It is beginning to clunk out on me. I must have tried to comment on your blog for thirty minutes the other day. My tablet kept crashing. My husband said he would buy me a new one soon! Fingers crossed!

Thank you for commenting. Have a great night!

  2. Great idea! I like my art supplies right where I can see them. They remind me of the line in You’ve Got Mail about bouquets of newly sharpened pencils…

    • Thank you! Oh man, someone else has all ready thought of this… Darn! I have not seen that movie since it was in the theater. Now I need to go watch it. It always bothered me that he put that little bookstore out of business. I never could quite get into their romance. But it has been almost fifteen years, so maybe I should try it again.

Thank you for reading and commenting! I hope you have a great weekend, what little there is left of it!

  3. I just found your blog, and I love all the color you have in your house. I especially love your fireplace with the peacock over it! Great. I have to ask, what is that paper display on your dining room table with the pencil post?

Anyway, you have a great sense of style.
    Thanks, Kelly

  4. I have a chair just like that!

I host a weekly link party called “Seasonal Sundays”. This week, in honor of my fourth blog-a-versary, I’m having a giveaway of a $100.00 gift certificate to HomeGoods/TJ Maxx. I’d love to have you join the fun!
