Embroidered Happiness

Vineet Bahl is one of my favorite designers. His Kantha Dresses he designed for Anthropologie a few years ago are my most treasured items in my closet (previous outfit post can be found here).

I stalked The Vine Beaded Maxi Dress (now sold out) for many months until it finally went on sale with an extra percentage off.

I love the polka dot pattern mixed with the really neat bohemian neckline.

I feel all of my thirty seven years in this dress. I like that it is more mature and the length is perfect.

I kept the accessories simple. With the intricate neckline all ready so busy, I just paired the dress with some earrings from World Market (old). You cannot really see my shoes but they are Indian sandals from a trip to Maui two years ago.

The dress comes lined and I very much appreciate that. Especially since I have a tendency for odd poses.

I love the way Jessica wore it on What I Wore. In fact, after seeing it on her many months ago, I began lusting after the dress even more.

Do you ever see an item of clothing on someone else and want it even more? What is the longest you have waited for an item to hit sale? I think the River Fade Dress might be it for me. I finally got it at the end of August, after waiting since January for it to hit sale.

*Everything I am wearing is sold out. Sorry about that. If I can find a similar item, I will link to it. But I will never put in a link for the sake of simply getting clicks. I do not want to waste your time. I could not find something similar enough to link to that I felt was worthy of a link. I have seen the dress selling on eBay for a bit more than what I paid (I paid $104). I took a size small in the dress.

  1. Oh Jenni – It’s your fault I got this dress – LOL! We have such similar tastes – I had seen this dress online and hadn’t thought much of it – the PRICE immediately turned me off, but then when you posted a picture of it here on the blog I noticed it had so much more detail than how it was depicted on the website, then shortly thereafter, I saw it in store and stopped dead in my tracks! SO beautiful! And it’s a dream for us types who love flowy and bohemian style! AND, I think it’s very flattering! I held out for all of two weeks then caved and bought it – and yeah, at full prize! I don’t regret it though! I love the earrings you are wearing with it – you’re right – it needs little in the way of accessories with the bold, gorgeous neckline! I wear mine with some dainty but colorful earrings from Anthro that have some of the colors in the neckline in them. One of my FAVES!

    • Thank you so much Judi! You are luckier than I am to get to wear it all summer. I have not figured out how to wear it in the fall and winter. I feel like the neckline will snag any cardigans. Are you going to wear yours in the upcoming colder months? I absolutely love the bright colors mixed with the polka dots. It is fun. Ut elegant, too.

I love the flowy. I cannot wait to try to incorporate more of those looks in the upcoming months.

Thank you again! : ). Have a happy weekend!

    • Thank you Kristen! I appreciate that. : ). It is definitely a fun piece to have in my closet. I think it will last many, many years.

      Have a sweet weekend!

  2. LOVE!!! this is a serious home run. If I’d seen this dress here I think I would have bought it.

This is really one of those dresses that are so easy to wear but look stunning.

Here I live too far away to be running back and forth to the Anthro stores. It is always the luck-of-the-draw as to what I get when I head into the sales room. Shipping to Canada is too expensive so that excludes all online sales. Bit of a bummer but probably better for the bank account.

    bisous
    Suzanne

    • Thank you Suzanne! You are not kidding about shipping to Canada. It is crazy expensive. I cannot believe the outrageous prices people state their shipping is sometimes in the comments section of Roxy’s site. Ouch! And the bad part is you do not even know how much it is going to be until the package arrives. Ugh!

I am lucky to not live near an Anthro. I would be in big trouble if there was one close by. Especially being in a no-buy month.

Thank you again! Have a super weekend!

  3. That dress is just lovely on you! I am so glad you got it for such a great price. The bermeja tunic is a dress that got me…I saw it on you, than on Kendi from Kendi Everyday, than I tried it on myself. I haven’t worn it, but am thinking of wearing it for Macy’s first bday party. I am not sure if a white tunic is the best idea for a one year party though!

    • Thank you so much Alicia! I just styled the Bermeja Dress for the fall today. That was a fun one! It can be worn so many different ways. I also think a plaid scarf in the wintertime will be amazing with it.

How can Macy be turning one?! No! She has to stay a baby with those sweet cheeks. They grow up so fast. But how exciting for both you and her. The first birthday cake! But that is risky wearing the tunic on that day for sure! Maybe an apron during the cake part. Selfishly I want you to wear it so I can see pictures of you in it on your blog! : )

      Have a lovely weekend!

    • Thank you Heather! How is your move going? I hope it is going well.

I always want more clothes. Not this month, though. I have been reevaluating my closet. I need to do an edit. I did a small one a while back, but it is time for a huge one.

      Have sweet dreams!

  4. That is a lovely dress and I had never heard of this designer before. It’s great that you have a collection going of the dresses that you love.
There have many times when I have seen an item on blogs, including yours, where I am able to see a dress in a different way. I have said it before that most of the time I think clothes, especially from Anthropologie and J.Crew, look better on real women instead of the models.
I have been known to wait almost a year for items to go on sale. It’s daunting but worth it.
    Have a great afternoon,
    Stacey

    • Thank you so much Stacey! : ). I love that designer. He is one of the few that I will google to see other beautiful pieces that he has created just to stare at them.

I agree. It helps me so much more to see clothes on regular people. I am not talking body types, but lighting. No pinning back. No weird poses. I feel like there are no smoke and mirrors going on when I see a piece on a blogger versus a model. I can get a better idea of how it will look in person.

I actually love waiting for sale. I enjoy the piece more when I know I did not break the bank on it.

      Have a marvelous weekend!

    • Awww. Thank you Brynne. I was really happy that day. I felt completely myself in that dress. And I am glad you think it showed. That makes me feel good. I have decided after that one sad shoot that I cannot take pictures anymore unless I am happy. It is not fair to the piece of clothing to showcase it with a sad face.

      Have a beautiful weekend!

      Jenni

    • Thank you Liana! Yes, yay for lining! Why can’t more dresses be lined? It would make things so much easier. I love that neckline. It makes me so happy.

Have a fabulous weekend! : ). I hope it is fun.

      Jenni

    • Oh, thank you so much! : ). I always hesitate to put big smiling pictures in my outfit pictures, because I do not know that it is most flattering. But your kind words make me want to post more of them! Thank you!

      Have a great weekend!

      Jenni

    • Thank you Keiko. I have been thinking of you. I have been trying to do better school lunches and nothing can compare with the awesome ones you make your daughter!

      Have a happy weekend!

  5. Love, love, love that dress! It looks wonderful on you! You also look gorgeous in it! I mean it, you are radiant! The close up pic, of you looking back over your shoulder is gorgeous! It looks like a pic from a fashion magazine, well done to your hubby for catching it. You prob look so beautiful in it bc you are comfortable w/ him taking pics of you. I think you’ll agree w/ me that sometimes I feel super silly taking fashion selfies of myself, but I guess not too much since I then put them on my blog & link them to fashion blog posts hoping someone may leave me a nice comment…..oh, what women do for the love of style & fashion! :). But seriously that’s such a pretty, pretty dress & you looked truely lovely!

I’m not sure if I should be offended by this: a friend was looking through my annual photo book from last year & since that’s when I began do fashion selfies & linking up to “what I wore” I did a couple of pages of my fav outfits. She said that was the funniest thing she’d ever seen. I was a bit sad. It’s kind of sad that none of my friends blog, or do fashion selfies, or anything like that. Especially since it is so fun & great to get fashion ideas & maybe go out of your comfort zone & try new things! Ah well, I didn’t take it to heart, bc I’ve enjoyed broadening my horizons when it comes to style. When I was younger I was super stylish, then normal, then after babies & in toddler years I was stuck in a frumpy, frumpy mummy rut! I’m happy to be out of that & trying new things in fashion, which I saw on other blogs & helped me do that!

Sorry for that tangent, maybe I was trying to justify fashion selfies to myself?!?!
    -have sweet dreams! :)Rebecca

    • Oh my goodness! Rebecca, some of my friends in California feel the same way about my fashion pictures. Well, about the whole thing really. Of course it could hurt my feelings, but I try not to dwell on it. It keeps me true to myself. It makes me stick to my weight loss. And it makes me happy. I love your selfies! Definitely keep it up! You always look great and it is one of my favorite parts of your blog!

Thank you for the sweet words! I really, really appreciated them today.

      Have a great Wednesday!

      Jenni
