Restyling The Bermeja Tunic Dress For The Fall

IMG_9607.JPG

This post really could have been called, “creating an outfit with items in your house.” I wanted to show two easy ways I have found to wear the Bermeja Tunic Dress in a different season (other post with this dress can be found here).

IMG_9580.JPG

If you do not own this dress, no worries, this look can be created with any ol’ white dress (similar dress here). And if you do not have a white dress, get one. That is an order. Well, unless you are a nun. Then you are all ready in an order. And you should probably skip the white dress. Black looks good on you. Love your habit.

IMG_9572.JPG

I wanted to show a day and night transitional look with this dress. Only, unlike other blogs that show the daytime look first (for some such odd reason being that day comes before night. But does it really?). I like to be contrary. I am doing it opposite.

Such as the opposite colors of the styling of this dress.

Nuns, I’m on to something here, I can just feel it. Don’t ya think?

IMG_9581.JPG

For my evening look, I pulled my hair up into a fun pony tail. Slipped on some huge turquoise chandelier earrings (old from World Market) and added a black ribbon around my waist.

I am not sure where the ribbon came from.

I was looking for my black belt.

I could not find it.

I found this ribbon stashed in my underwear drawer.

The end.

IMG_9582.JPG

Except this leads to many questions.

Nuns, you might want to look away now.

Such as, why was a ribbon in my underwear drawer?

Where did it come from?

Was it part of a box of chocolate?

What? You don’t hide chocolate in your underwear drawers?

Next, you will tell me you don’t keep salami in your boots. And I know that to be a lie. How could you lie in front of these nuns?

And the most important question, who ate my darn chocolate?

IMG_9573.JPG

I paired both looks with black tights and high heeled booties.

IMG_9585.JPG

For my daytime look, I simply pulled my ponytail out and undid the bow.

‘Cause I am truly a styling genius lazy heathen.

IMG_9577.JPG

Underneath the dress dwells my slip from Free People. I kind of hate the slip the Bermeja Tunic Dress originally came with. It was way too short to actually cover parts best left unseen with any practicality. I could not find a different white slip, so this uneven ragged edge little number got some use.

IMG_9599.JPG

If you are an even-hemmed kind of gal (or fella), then this look must be driving you crazy.

But I am not, nor have I ever been an exact measurement sort of gal.

Not level headed.

Nor even tempered.

I will have nun of that.

My point being, you can wear any slip underneath this dress and it will be fine.

IMG_9611.JPG

Speaking of grabbing things from around the house.

Yes, we were speaking of such things.

Keep up. These voices in my head don’t just speak to themselves.

I loved the chandelier earrings that I wore with this dress and I really, really wanted a turquoise beaded bracelet to pair with them. But I do not own a turquoise beaded bracelet. However, I do own a vintage turquoise beaded sweater clip (I will have a post coming up soon about sweater clips. They are awesome). I just clasped it together at the ends around my wrist and it created a bracelet.

Nuns, take note. I made a bracelet in less than one second with my own hands.

It is a miracle.

IMG_9594.JPG

Not as miraculous as this scenery. If we were not completely trespassing, I would have stayed longer. But isn’t it beautiful? Truly worth some jail time.

Besides, I just confessed.

To a nun.

I’m all good now.

I’m a pretty calm rebel.

Probably because nobody cared.

The owners saw us and just waved. ‘Cause they must have known about my miraculous bracelet. Those types of achievements get around.

IMG_9583.JPG

Not that I am bragging. Wouldn’t dream of it. Besides, that is not my favorite sin.

IMG_9575.JPG

You have a favorite sin?

IMG_9598.JPG

Yep. Shhhhhhh. Don’t tell the nuns. I don’t make a habit of committing it.

On purpose.

With regularity.

Accidentally.

Every day.

So, what is it? Greed? Gluttony? Envy? Lust? Wrath? Sloth (Oi)? Pride?

IMG_9589.JPG

Sorry. I’ll never tell.

You can’t get it out of me.

It would take a miracle.

Bohemian Polka Dots

20140602-204549.jpg

I never thought I could incorporate polka dots into a bohemian look. Polka dots are fun. They are unstructured. But for some reason, I always think “preppy” not “hippie” when I see them.

20140602-204624.jpg

I underestimated Free People.

When I saw this maxi skirt hanging out on the Free People rack at Nordstrom Rack, I loved it, but I thought it had been put in the wrong place. I checked the tag, and low and behold, it was my beloved Free People.

20140602-204750.jpg

Of course, being at the rack meant a significant discount. I believe it was originally $128 and I paid $50. The skirt is sold out, but I have seen it on eBay.

20140602-204857.jpg

Once again, I ended up on an ant hill. You guys. I am beginning to think this is not a coincidence.

20140602-205036.jpg

I do not have ants in my pants. Or skirt as it were, in this picture. I simply wanted to see the skirt blow in the breeze. There is absolutely nothing I like better than a maxi skirt. And a maxi skirt with polka dots? Forget about it. I paired it with a simple white tee from Forever 21.

20140602-205006.jpg

I thought if I added some color and fun to the skirt, I could make it more “me.” So, let’s talk accessories: The belt was one of my favorite purchases in January of 2013. It is an Obi belt from Free People (similar here and here). The necklace was a neat gift from Free People for participating in Free People Me (similar here). And the shoes are Anthropologie’s Atlas Sandals.

20140602-205300.jpg

It is also not an accident that the shirt is being worn backwards. The seam is supposed to be worn down the back.

But someone decided to eat chocolate in bed before this photo shoot.

20140602-204823.jpg

Don’t worry. Nothing will happen. It is just a bite… Whoops!

20140602-205141.jpg

So, I flipped it around and put my hair down. Tricky. This did not help with the ants, by the way.

Do you love polka dots like me? Would you rather wear a maxi or a short skirt? Or a maxi and jeans? Have you ever gotten chocolate on a white shirt? Please tell me it comes out.

It’s A Golden Age, Eyelet Believe

20140804-193210.jpg

I purchased my Free People Golden Age Top last summer (previous post here) and I wear it all of the time.

20140804-193932.jpg

It can be layered with almost anything.

20140804-193503.jpg

I do not wear jeans a lot, but I had a chiropractic appointment that day and could not wear a dress.

20140804-193338.jpg

Because of its open back, I decided to try the Golden Age Top with the Free People I Got My Eyelet You Top I scored recently at Nordstrom Rack. It paired perfectly together. I also wore my Free People eyelet bra so it would be cohesive.

20140804-193526.jpg

The Eyelet Top has the faintest line of pink around the hems (it makes my heart surge with its sweetness), so I knew I wanted to wear pink and gold jewelry.

20140804-193303.jpg

It might be the prettiest top I have ever seen and I cannot wait to pair it with a denim jacket in the wintertime. It is perfect with the Golden Age Top, though, because it has the most adorable tied back and that top really allows it to be seen. I think it would also look fantastic layered with this this sleeveless open back top.

20140804-205658.jpg

A lady complimented me on my top that day and I had to tell her it was actually two different tops paired together.

Then I got embarrassed, because she probably did not care.

I tend to give too much information.

20140804-194010.jpg

Speaking of information, I took both tops in a size medium.

Are you obsessed with lace and eyelet? Do you pair them together?

20140804-194354.jpg

I cannot get enough of this pairing. Eyelet just want to spin!

20140804-195148.jpg

And doesn’t that sound golden?

P.S. Sweet Heather from the blog, The Peacock Fairy is having a lovely Blog Giveaway and a moving sale in her Etsy store. Please don’t forget to check it out! : )

P.S. * I shared this on The Pleated Poppy!

With A Lighter Heart

20140723-193017.jpg

Sorry for another outfit post. I am trying to get through my summer pictures. My mom will be happy. She loves the outfit posts the most.

I could not recall the name of this dress that I purchased last year. I had originally styled it like Mary on Happily Grey, on my older blog post here, but I had wanted to try it exclusively with gold and pink this time. Make it my own.

20140723-193048.jpg

I found the name of the dress. And it made me smile, because I had picked this dress out of my closet that day simply to ease a heavy heart.

20140723-193117.jpg

The dress is called, “With A Light Heart Dress.” I am sure it is sold out by now because when I purchased it in 2013, it was all ready 66% off. I bet it can be found on eBay. I cannot guarantee the light heart, though (I am not linking to a similar dress because I honestly could not find one similar enough to warrant a link and I do not like to add links simply for the sake of clicks).

20140723-193143.jpg

The necklace is Anthropologie’s Lace Flag Necklace from last year. It is surprisingly hard to find pink jewelry. I am happy I picked this up. The shoes can be found here.

20140723-193305.jpg

It seems silly, but I was thrilled to get a compliment on this outfit earlier in the day.

A woman stopped me when I was with my son and said, “I like your son-”

And I thought to myself, She likes my son? That is odd.

But then she finished. “I like your son-dals. And your whole outfit is just so cute.”

I thanked her and soared inside, both from the compliment and the fact that my son was not being strangely commented upon.

20140723-193340.jpg

Another silly thing is this bracelet. I love it. I purchased it from Anthropologie when it hit sale with my husband’s initial. However, it is the only piece of jewelry that has ever turned my skin green.

But I still wear it.

‘Cause green skin is kinda cool. I do like to channel my inner Hulk, after all.

Not really, but I do wear it for short periods of time because I really like the bracelet.

20140723-193609.jpg

Have you ever had jewelry that turned your skin green? Did you still wear it? Do you compliment strangers? I try to always compliment one elderly woman every time I leave the house. One time I was in an airport and I accidentally kicked the poor lady with my shoe when I tried to tell her I loved her dress. She probably did not appreciate that compliment so much.

I hope I did not give her a green bruise.

Maybe this bracelet is compliment karma.

Or some such light hearted nonsense.
