Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day!

I hope all of you moms are having a great day!

This year is a hard one for our family. My beautiful grandmother passed away this year and it was so weird not buying her a present… I will be shopping in a store and find the most perfect thing for her. I grab it and hold it in my hand, worried someone else might snatch it: A matchbox covered in bees, a colorful apron, a long necklace with green and yellow beads. Suddenly I stop halfway to the register. I remember. And the sadness is overwhelming. I know it is very tough for my mother. This being the first year without her. For all of you missing your mothers, my heart is with you.

So, I wanted to do something cheerful for my mom. I had the kids make her some pretty art. I framed it and wrapped it up…And then I dropped one of the pictures in the garage. Glass was everywhere. I have to go buy another frame. But at least the art survived.

And from myself: well, I wanted to do something meaningful and something practical. For the practical, I did a gift card. For the sentimental, I found this vintage child’s toy and it swiftly brought back childhood memories of my mother reading to me “The Velveteen Rabbit.”

The story is about a stuffed rabbit who is given life only after he has been worn and loved. It seemed an appropriate gift to give to the woman who gave me my own life.

Thank you Mom! I love you! Happy Mother’s Day!

Tasks to do today:

NOTHING!

Sleeping in!

My husband is going to barbecue steak for dinner. I will make baked potatoes.

My kids are making a dessert while I supervise.

And we are going swimming in the afternoon.

I also received the best present: this new ipad I am typing on! My old one was failing. I could not even view my own blog on it.

Thanks family!

And to all the mothers out there: may your day be filled with dry hands and dry eyes. A perfect happy day in pajamas.

You deserve it!
