The Dirty Blanket

20140112-015412.jpg

Many nights ago found my entire family laying in our driveway. We stretched out on my son’s dirty sleeping bag that still was in the garage after being put there two weeks prior from this three day camp. Out of sight. And all that. And when I say stretched, I mean crammed. A few nights ago my family crammed themselves onto a dirty blanket in the front yard. And it was one of my happiest moments.

When watching the news earlier that morning, we learned that there was going to be a meteor shower. It was going to be an early one. So it would be possible for the kids to see some shooting stars prior to their bedtime.

The plan was for us all to gather in the hot tub. I turned the hot tub on and due to circumstances unseen (long story) had to come up with an alternative.

My husband said, “Why don’t we just lay in the driveway?”

To which I replied, “Great idea! I am going to need you to move the cars to block the entrance to the driveway so we don’t get run over.”

This ensued in a little conversation about it being our driveway and why would someone pull into it. What would they be doing? How could that happen? And if you put all of those questions to a hypochondriac…Well, you will find there is always an answer. I ended up “winning.” Cause I am nothing if not cautious. And more than a little bit paranoid.

So, we blocked the driveway with our cars and stretched crammed onto our dirty blanket.

We were blocked from our neighbor’s views. Which made us giggle a few times when we heard people walking by and unknowingly talking amongst themselves.

Our heads were cradled by one of my pillows I had made from an old feed bag. I figured it had seen worse than our dirty blanket.

And we stared into the night sky. I felt so at peace. We laid out there for thirty minutes. We ended up seeing six falling stars. One of them was spectacular. It was right above our house. As stars tend to be. And it lit up the night sky like a firework.

My family slowly left and made their way inside. I was reluctant to move. To get up. To leave the serene moment behind.

But I did. I shoved the blanket back into the garage. God forbid I take it inside and wash it. At some point, I will have no choice. But for now, there it remains. It reminds me of serenity and falling bits of sky every time I see it.

Why can’t all soiled articles do the same? And why can’t every night be filled with sporadic lights across the sky? And memories being made?

Purity. It can come in any form.

Even a dirty blanket.

My Christmas Wishlist

20131129-175708.jpg

For Christmas, I like to “ask” for things I would not normally buy myself. Things like a nice bag, a piece of jewelry, or an interesting accessory (such as a magic shawl to ward evil spirits away). It feels more special this way.

Spoiler: I have ordered all of these items for my husband to give me. I guess I was a very, very, very good girl this year. ; ). And everything was purchased on sale. ‘Cause even Santa (which is definitely not me) has a budget.

The Maricopa Wrap from Anthropologie. This also goes by the name of Eye Shawl from Mara Hoffman. I love this wrap more than anything. I could not believe I was able to score it for such a great sale price (half off plus an extra 20% off and free shipping). Alpaca is not cheap. I cannot wait to get it as a present. I have not seen this in person, I had my husband hide it from me when it came. Thanks honey!

Tara Saddle Boots. I feel very sophisticated in these boots. I could not believe their sale price. I had to try them on to make sure the size was right. They are pretty uncomfortable, so I know I will need to get a gel insert for them. They make every outfit seem more romantic and feminine. I love these! Under the tree they go!

The Ankaa Necklace from Anthroplogie. I am not a jewelry girl. What I mean is, I am not a “nice” jewelry girl. I like costume jewelry. Not the real deal. I get bored too quickly. I do not want to spend a ton of money on a piece and feel obligated to wear it all of the time. However, this piece is so nice I cannot wait to wear it. It will go with almost everything in my closet.

For our house, the Handira Blanket is so gorgeous. I LOVE this! I have had it in my wishlist since it first appeared months ago. He bought it in blue for me for almost 75% off. He said it matched my eyes. Or that is what I would imagine he will say when he learns he bought it for me.

Finally, every year, I like to get one new bag. I patiently waited for the Paisley Cutout Satchel to make it to sale. Once it did (75%), I shipped it to our house. I had my husband open the package and inspect the bag for defects. I have not seen this bag in person yet, but I am sure it will be great!

I bought this as a Christmas present for my husband (he knows, because I am horrible at keeping secrets). But, who are we kidding, I have been wanting this for years. I cannot wait to make my grandma’s honey ice cream (with my dad’s honey) in this. This was a deal that could not be beat at Amazon.

What have you asked for this year for the holidays? Are you as bad good as I am and just buy it for yourself?

More Outfits

I am finding myself buried in a backlog of outfit photos. This is making me a little stressed out. How did this happen? I asked myself.

It seems pretty simple, actually. I wear clothes everyday. I almost always take a picture of what I am wearing (except today. I am wearing my nightie. I will even cook dinner in it. And eat dinner in it. ‘Cause I’m fancy like that. And a day without leaving my children without scarring delightful memories is not a day I want to be a part of). I post up to three outfits per week. Well, the math speaks for itself.

I thought I would share some more outfit photos I have. Two were taken two months ago. One was taken a few days ago.

I do not know why it took me so long to share this outfit. It is one of my very favorites. The dress was a sale find from Free People called Got You Hooked Maxi. I also have it in blue, shown here. I was not going to own two, but then this dress went on clearance. Really happy with this purchase. Of course, it is sold out now, because I am so slow with my outfit posts. : (

I can layer this dress over every long slip in my closet. I will post a picture (as soon as I take it. I have worn this combo all ready, but my photographer/husband/not-a-real-photographer was out of town) soon of how it looks with a peachy slip. That is my favorite combo.

I bought this black Michael Korr’s tuxedo shirt from Nordstrom Rack many months ago on the clearance rack. I really like the length. I simply paired it with jeans and a necklace gifted to me from Simply Livly on Etsy. Similar style, but different color here.

I paired the Free People Long Sleeve Swing Dress (last winter I fooled myself into thinking I could wear this as a dress. Um, no. I cannot imagine the view people got from behind last season, even with tights. Now, this “dress” gets worn with skinny pants only) with my J Brand Moto Pants in olive that I got from Anthropologie for $20.

My shoes! Oh! I am so excited about these! They are the Born Topanga boots I found at Nordstrom Rack two weeks ago. The pattern is a textured wool. I believe the fabric is taken from a Mexican blanket. The cheapest I see them online is from 6PM. They also come in a dark brown color.

I wore my Corallina necklace from Anthropologie with this. It was only the second time I wore this piece. This is my last reminder of my unflawed necklace. As I was walking, one of the strands broke and beads scattered everywhere. I am so sad. But I am now just wearing it sans one row of beads. It is actually more comfortable, because it is lighter. Silver lining and all that.

What has been your favorite outfit you have worn lately? And are you spending at least one day this weekend in your pajamas like me?

More Than Slightly Obsessed

This is an extra post today. It is here, because I need help identifying an article of clothing…I received a Pottery Barn Teen Catalog in the mail yesterday. This happens. I have a teenager. I have purchased from Pottery Barn before. I usually do not ever get around to looking at it.

20130926-100840.jpg

But this cover caught my eye. That blouse! The overalls. I have searched and searched the internet looking for this magnificent top. Does anyone, anyone at all, know where this blouse is from? I am in love. It is gorgeous. Just divine. Please leave a comment if you know where to get it! Thank you so much!

I opened the catalog and I was blown away with the cool new designs by Stylists and Designers Emily Current and Meritt Elliot.

Look at this gold dotted duvet. I would rock this. Unfortunately it does not come in my bed’s size.

20130926-100940.jpg

Have you ever seen anything so adorable? Me neither. I want one. Need one.

20130926-101048.jpg

I want this clothing rack like my dog, Ollie, wants an ice cube. So badly, I can almost taste it.

They also have the cutest bunny lamp. I will not be getting this. Yesterday I wore my bunny shirt from Anthropologie, and I took pictures of my child with my bunny iphone case. Later, I thought to myself, I must have looked like a nut. All bunny, all of the time. But if you are not all ready in bunny overload… This lamp is “wonderful.”

And the denim chaise they are selling is very cool.

What do you think? I realize I am too old for a teen catalog, but my heart is young. I love it all. And please, please let me know if you have seen the top from the first picture.
