Shifts In A Denim Shift

IMG_3034.JPG

I started out wearing this little denim dress from Urban Outfitters (sold out. But Old Navy currently has a cute denim dress also available in plus size). With boots. And I asked my husband if he could take pictures of it.

And he looked at the dress and said, “Whoa! That is short!”

But I didn’t believe him.

And then I looked at these pictures while we were out taking the pictures and I had to agree. But I still thought maybe it was the heels and not the dress. Because I had kind of all ready worn this dress around town that day and I really could not bear to think of how many people saw me sans pants. I stubbornly stuck with, “It is a dress and it is long enough.” As all sixteen thirty seven year olds do.

So I changed to flats.

It’s called denial.

IMG_3049.JPG

And it is my speciality.

It was how I originally wanted to wear the dress any way. And I did. For approximately five seconds.

Before I took a peek at these pictures and decided it was not the heels.

It was not the flats.

It was the dress.

And it was a shirt.

I hate when that happens.

Although, I cannot wait to layer it over another dress like Atlantic Pacific did here.

I put on some tights that I had in my car.

IMG_3063.JPG

What? You don’t carry tights in your car? What about spare deodorant? Extra underwear? Straws? Salt?

A girl has always gots to be prepared.

I do admit, I felt more comfortable in the tights.

Just don’t tell my husband.

He’ll never let me live it down.

He is all ready teasing me about always being pantless.

There will be no living with him if he learns that I agree with him.

Have you ever been in denial about an outfit? Left the house in an indecent state? I am afraid that I can answer “yes” to both of those questions too often. I need to shift that. Top the next outfit. Ad-dress the issue and move on. For not once, but twice, in school, I left the changing room for p.e. without pants on. If I could get through it in junior high school, I can do it now. It is amazing how things can change and yet always stay the same.

  1. Hmmmmm, I do think the heeled boots make it look shorter. I think you were ok in it all day sans pants, esp compared to what teens & twenty something girls wear these days! I had a version of this in the ’90s that I bought at gap in San Francisco on my first trip there. I wore it the next day visiting vineyards in napa & it was shorter! I was tall & much thinner than I am now! But you in your denim reminded me of that! You look lovely as you always do! I also like your girly goth from yesterday, very pretty!

My February is kind of blue. My work life is really bad. Our company changed & everyone is miserable. I still love what I do (except all the new bad environ, etc), so I’m so torn. Do I just suck it up since it’s a good job, or do I move on (knowing I’d never be able to return to my part time schedule. Also my job is so specialized there are very few other companies & no one is hiring…..ah life!). So, I’m at a crossroads. On my days off I feel refreshed & able to stick it out, but when I’m there it’s bad……sorry for the rant. Hope your February is happy!

  2. Too funny. I do like it with tights! I just bought a denim dress today. It is actually a dress though 😉 I can’t wait for it to warm up so I can wear it without the chance of getting frostbite!

  3. that happens all the time, jenni!! My husband won’t wait for me to get ready, neither my daughter.. so when they are ready, I have to leave!
In the car, I have my daughter’s whole outfit including underwear, socks.. bathing suits, thick and light jacket, extra shoes, grocery shopping bag, sand toys, sun block, baby wipes and my thick and thin jacket, my sneakers and flip flops.. but I never thought I’d keep my tights in there!! What a great idea!!!

  4. The great thing about too short dresses is that they can look great with leggings/tights. I prefer the tights with this dress because it has a bohemian/artist look. You look like you could be working at the bookstore side by side with Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face. That’s one of my favorite movies.
I would add an artsy necklace to complete the look or a pin. I like the rose that you have in the last picture with the dress. Is that a pin?
    Enjoy,

  5. I love that you have tights in your car! that dress is cuuuute! hey, it’s almost summer, and that will be so cute on a hot day…until then, it’s super cute with tights, too! LOVE those booties!

  6. It is short, but I feel like the oversize shape keeps it from feeling too skimpy. Now if it was skin tight and that short, I’d assume you were on your way to the club. Still, I know I’d feel more comfortable with tights or leggings underneath, but I feel that way about dresses that just skim my knees. lol

My most horrific outfit in memory was an outfit I wore to an interview when I was in college. The interview was for a summer position at the Home Depot hotdog stand (I know). I wore a pink satin pencil skirt with a ruffle along the bottom. I also wore black fishnet tights and black ankle-strap heels. The guy hired me. That night, his wife called and said she’d given the position to someone else. My parents still tease me about it to this day.
