Tasseled and Tousled

IMG_2915.JPG

Sometimes an outfit will come together in my mind and then it is quickly forgotten as something else comes up. But I could not get this one out of my head.

IMG_2922.JPG

So I put it on. And I was happy.

IMG_2911-0.JPG

I received these booties for Christmas (however did he know?). The booties are sold out at Anthropologie, but the brand is Fortress of Inca and they have similar booties available. They are more than what I paid, but I have seen their site do promotions, so I would watch for that if you want the booties. I wore mine for about ten hours on this day. And they were very comfortable.

The dress was an awesome sale popback score. I was really worried that this dress would accentuate my hips in a negative way, but it surprisingly does not. It is a very forgiving dress. The only thing I would change would be the v-shaped pretty plaid pattern in the middle. If you stand a certain way, it looks like odd legs. But I can live with that.

IMG_2919.JPG

Heather from The Peacock Fairy previously wore her dress here. Can you believe she just had a baby? She looks fantastic! I didn’t get dressed for three months after each baby. She is very inspiring. Bonnie from Small Town Fashionista also rocked the dress early on. In fact, it was after seeing it on her that I added it to my wishlist.

It is a great dress for all body types. You might be able to find The Tasseled Maxi Dress on eBay or as a popback (it is all sold out, but Golden Tote has almost the exact same dress for $35 without the middle panel. I have never shopped there before, so I cannot comment on the site).

Whew! Mundane details out of the way. Oh! I forgot about the necklace! And I forgot its name! It is from 2013. It has a gold stripe on the other side. I always wear it backwards because I like the pure dark fabric by itself better. The ring was the best deal last month. I had wanted it when it first came out, but never got it. My local store had it for $7.50. I wear it all of the time!

IMG_2923.JPG

Okay. Now the mundane details are hopefully out of the way. Who likes mundane details? Not me. And isn’t January full of them as we try to get our lives organized for the new year?

IMG_2921.JPG

Such as, I have been purging my closet. I made a pile that I will be donating and the next night at dinner, my daughter came to the table wearing the kimono I had put on top of the donation pile. It is a good thing that I am always slow and behind or she would have missed out!

IMG_2924.JPG

It was windy when we took these pictures. Somehow I ended up in positions that resembled ballerina poses as I tried to block the sun and keep my hair in place.

IMG_2912.JPG

I find this hilarious as I am the most klutzy person I know. My mother was a beautiful ballerina. I never had the knack. Or the grace. Or the fortitude. I took it for, gosh, seven years. I kept hearing about the blood involved with pointe shoes and that was it for me. It makes me dizzy just thinking about it. And nobody wants a dizzy ballerina. Besides I believe I would be a ditzy dizzy ballerina and that would be a double blow to the craft.

Did you take a dance class as a child? Do you take it now? Is anyone else still reeling from the talk about the pointe shoes? I can feel the room spinning. I must put my head between my legs.

Don’t worry. If anyone asks I’ll just tell them it is a new dance move.

And they’ll totally not believe me.

P.S. I shared this on The Pleated Poppy and Reasons To Dress and Fashion Should Be Fun.

  1. This dress ~~ I likey!!! I too am trying to purge my closet for the first time ever. You and I have discussed holding onto stuff…you know…just in case. Sigh. I wish I had a good mental view for what I would like that pared down wardrobe to look like. That would help. I did find a brand and style of skinny jeans I like. That has helped as I have bought them in several colors. They have been very forgiving while I have sat on the couch, eating everything in sight (and not in sight) while I could not work out. I have added many basics such as a light and dark chambray shirts, brown boots, black boots, etc. But that is adding, not subtracting. I feel like I am being more purposeful, at least. It’s the layering I have troubles with. I see a look on a blog with say, a shirt under a sweater only to find my sweater is too thin or the shirt is not the right length to peek from under the sweater. How do the bloggers always seem to get it right!?!!!?!????
Dancing — I SO wanted to take dance classes as a little girl but my parents would not let me. I think it would have helped with my self confidence and self esteem and lack of gracefulness. Then again, I probably would have just compared myself to the others and been discouraged. Oh my….am I not a Debbie Downer today….or Brynnie Bluesie (so as to not offend any Debbie’s out there LOL).
Anyway, I love this dress on you. The side shot of you is very flattering especially. XXOO

    • Thank you Brynne! You know what I wish? That I could see into the future to what I will greatly regret getting rid of. There is an owl skirt I am 99% sure I am getting rid of, but what if I want it later? And a midi cord skirt I have never been able to style, but what if one day I figure I it out? Ahhhh. The stress! I so agree that some bloggers always get it right. There is a new very young girl who is so adorable. I could be her mother, but she has the best style. Her blog is Karissa Marie. I want her ability to throw things together!

      Have a great week!

  2. ^ I hear you about struggling to layer. Anthro’s beautiful product shots always showcase pieces that look fab together on the beautiful model (while she lounges on a fainting couch in an enchanted forest or whatever lol). When I try to recreate the look, it’s often lumpy and bunchy and misshapen. I can’t put a cardigan with snug sleeves over anything but a tank, it’s frustrating.

Why not try listing purged items on eBay or sending them to Twice.com rather than donating right away? I love turning my unwanted stuff into cash to put towards something new.

    • Thank you! I might start a separate Instagram and do it. First I have to finish sorting. And then I want to go through one more time. I want to get rid of a lot! My style has been changing over the years.

      Happy Monday!

  3. Thanks for adding my link to this post – you are so kind! I love the dress on you and the booties with it. That is funny about the Golden Tote version…. weren’t they the site that had the Mara Hoffman “eye” shawl look-a-like too? Hmmmm. Yes, I would love dibs at your clothes too!

    • Always! You look great in the dress! : ). That is the site with the eye shawl, too. Isn’t that curious? I need to decide if I am going to donate or sell. I am just so awful at packaging (as you can attest ; ). I don’t like mailing stuff, so I am thinking about it. I need to get the stuff out of my house!

      Happy Monday!

  4. I took a ballet class when I was 38. First time in my life. It was fun and stressful. In the end we wound up moving so I wasn’t able to continue, but the idea that they actually wanted us to do a proper recital turned me off. I didn’t feel ready to get on stage and perform after a 2 months of once weekly lessons.

As a kid I took baton which I liked until I dropped it on stage while at a recital. Then I hate it and finally convinced my Mom I wanted to quit.

I quite like this dress. I looks like a dress version of sweats LOL.

    • You know, I don’t understand why they force people to do recitals except that it promotes the studio. I would not want to do the recital either. I do want to find something fun to do though.

And thank you about the dress! It is exactly like a dress version of sweats! : )

      Have a beautiful week!

  5. You and Heather both look so pretty in this pretty dress! I love that you always have a cheeky gnome matching your outfits in your posts. It’s like Where’s Waldo for me. Love that!
I started taking an adult basic ballet class this past September and I looooove it. I keep meaning to blog about it and I will soon. It is a true adult beginner class and a lot of us (me especially) are klutzy but it is such a great environment we all don’t care.
I am afraid of pointe. It freaks me out to think of dancing on my tippy toes.

    • Thank you Cynthia! That is exactly what I was hoping for! Sometimes the gnomes are a bit hard to spot. That makes me the happiest! Like in some of the snow posts. You must blog about the adult ballet class! I would love to read about it!

      Happy Monday!

  6. Love this outfit. The swirly patterned boots are awesome. I also really like your hair up like that.

I took ballet and jazz for 1 or 2 years when I was in elementary school but I didn’t like it very much.

  7. I love these booties on you. I would have never looked twice on them online, but now, I see the appeal! You have a good eye for things.
Ugg. Paring down my closet is hard. I am trying. I have been selling things on Ebay to help…but than I keep replacing the sold items with new items…
I would LOVE to look at your cast offs 😉
I love dance and ballet. I took it when I was very little, but my parents could not afford to keep it up. It makes my mother so sad. I would have kept at it through college I am sure. I did take a year or so of adult beginner ballet when I finished college and it was my very favorite thing! If I did not move from Minneapolis, I would have kept it. One of my dreams was to be able to get en pointe. Who knows, maybe I will start again one day. I will say one thing…I thought it would be easier. It is seriously SO hard. So controlled and subtle and your muscles shake with the effort. I love it, but when I watch professionals dance I have a deep, deep appreciate for it, because it is nearly insane to be that strong and graceful.

  8. I love this whole outfit- and wherever you are is absolutely gorgeous! Those booties are perfect on you! I am a horrible online shopper, but get me in the store and once it is on me and I fall in love- I have to leave with it!
I was always the kid who wished they took dance (and were graceful and didn’t fall up the stairs). I love watching dancers though- and wondering how in the world their bodies do it!

    • Thank you Dawn Lucy! I was so glad I remembered. January just about did me in. I am hoping to get back on track this month!

      Have a great Sunday!
