A Mountain Of A Mystery Maxi

You know how I am always buying clothes… Wait. Let me finish. You know how I am always buying clothes… without knowing what their clothing name means?

It happened again.

With the Nanda Maxi Dress (now sold out).

IMG_1271.JPG

I bought it because it had an amazing Suzani pattern on it. The colors. The flow. I loved everything about it.

Except the price. I finally picked it up for around 80% off.

IMG_1270.JPG

I paired it with my cardigan I picked up last year for $20 at Anthropologie.
I think the back of it is so pretty.

Names. We were talking about names.

So, I typed in “Nanda” into Google. You will never guess what popped up.

IMG_1264.JPG

The first thing that popped up was an acronym. NANDA stood for “North America Nursing Diagnosis Association.”

IMG_1266.JPG

Um, I am pretty sure that is not the vision Anthropologie meant for people to have when naming their maxi dress. Besides, I imagine if they were going to name a dress after a nurse’s association, it would be white.

I increased my search.

Anthropologie tends to name things after two things. Yep. Two things. Regions. And birds. I typed in “Nanda Region.” And I found it. It is a mountain in India called Nanda Devi. The highest mountain in India to be exact.

Of course it is.

Do you look up the names of your clothes? Or is that just me? I like to think they are like meeting new friends and people. Once I know their name. Their real name. The meaning. I can figure out a little more about them. Give them a deeper character.

Give them a deeper meaning. Than just clothes.

Whoa! That’s a little too deep.

Let’s go back to keeping our heads in the clouds. I know a certain mountain that would be perfect for the task.

  1. I never even pay attention to the names Anthro gives to everything. I’m like, “Just give me the blue dress with the flowers!” LOL Yeah…I’m very basic like that. Me like dress!

I had my eyes on this dress. Lucky you for scoring it at a deal.

    • Thank you Suzanne! I am jealous of your shoe deal this week! Those silver shoes are amazing!!! I always have to look the names up as I can never remember them.
They often do not make sense to me.

      Have a lovely week!

  2. Pretty dress! Anthro is so romantic. Love that they find such perfect names for their clothes. Now if they would just spend some time getting their inventory sorted out. I placed an order on thursday for a 40% off top and it has yet to ship. Grrrr… at least it has a pretty name – Burnished Light.

    • Thank you Cynthia! Okay. When did you order the shirt? I placed an order for earrings the night it ended and they got cancelled today. Then I had that awesome blazer and an apron purchased last Monday that have not shipped. I am just waiting for that cancellation as well. Super bummed. I hope your shirt ships! Please let me know! It does have a pretty name.

      Have a gorgeous week!

  3. beautiful dress! the whole naming thing reminds me of Elaine’s job on Seinfield…remember when she worked for J Peterman? haha! Anyhow, this dress is amazing, just as everything you pick up seems to be…and the prices are always crazy wonderful!

    • Thank you Melodee! Oh my gosh! I do remember Elaine’s job! That is exactly like this! How funny! I always thought she had the coolest job. I would have loved it!

      Have a sweet week! : )

  4. The names of Anthropologie’s clothes is actually what initially attracted me to the store! Personally, I feel that by giving the clothes a name, they are somehow immortalizing them, they will be historical, traceable, and remembered.

We discuss so many clothes that came out years ago; I search eBay regularly for clothes that are named “wild and wonderous, or tempting trellis”; some of these came out in 2005.

  5. Love this dress – wish I would have picked it up. The names sure are interesting…. sometimes I can figure them out but have never looked up the meanings. I think that’s so cool that you do!

    • Thank you Liana! I like learning new words too. Then I promptly forget them. My husband can remember every word he learns. I need to absorb some of his brain.

      Have a lovely day!
