Three Stripes You’re Out-fit

I could not resist this Anthropologie Tartan Blanket Coat. I tried to. Oh, how I tried to, as I attested to in the review post I recently did.

I was going to wait and have my husband gift it to me for Christmas. But I wanted to get as much use from it as I possibly could with this slight winter we have been having here.

I cannot resist fun.

Ever.

It is my downfall.

I don’t even want to tell you the temperature it was in Southern California on this day. I will say it was the coolest day we have had this fall, but my husband laughed at me when he saw me in this hat (sold out, similar hat here).

I need to protect my tresses. I only wash them every three to four days. This was day four. I had waved my hair (post about how I do that here) so it still looked okay. But a hat seemed like the logical solution for the roots and it is honestly the only hat that I own.

Also, I like a flowy top. I’m not pregnant. That ship has sailed. I just thought I should put that out there ’cause this top looks like I am trying to hide something.

Just hiding dirty hair here, folks.

And look! I accidentally wore three different stripes on this day. That’s gotta mean something.

IMG_1470.JPG

I don’t know what. But somethin’.

I wore this to grab breakfast with a sweet friend.

She very politely said nothing about my odd dressing.

I have worn this combo before. On Halloween to be exact. The striped dress is from Target (previously worn as a shirt). The purple top was an $8 popback from Anthropologie. These tights are my very favorite and less than $10 (also available in leggings). And the hat was a clearance find at Free People a few years ago.

I will be wearing this tartan coat as often as I possibly can here. If it is less than seventy degrees, this is what I will be wearing. I would not wear this in the rain. I do think it might get ruined if it gets wet. It feels like felted wool. I imagine this would shrink. For fit purposes, this is the XS/S.

Are you wearing a favorite coat this season? How do you decide whether to keep a splurge-worthy garment? Does it have to be practical or unique? My answer is always unique.

*I shared this on The Pleated Poppy and Reasons To Dress.

  1. Oh wow that coat is so awesome! I think we have another day of cold weather. And surely it will get cold again this winter, right? It can’t stay summer forever, right? Or can it?!!
I usually splurge on something unique too. Practical is no fun but I wish I spent my money on more practical and less unique sometimes. Ah well… I need to just wear my unique items even if I look strange going to the grocery store in a party dress at 2pm.

    • Thank you Cynthia! It was a nice couple of cold days but I could not wear this coat in the rain. : (. I did, however, finally get some use out of my rainboots. I was excited about that. Running my air conditioner again today. It does seem like an endless summer.

      Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Isn’t that the truth? I want the cold until I get it and then I want the warm. Although frostbite sounds painful and not at all fun so I will keep my warm. ; )

And thank you about the look. It was fun to wear!

      Sweet dreams!

  2. Hi Jenni,

I found your blog through Effortless Anthropologie a while ago and have been following it, I really enjoy your stories and your outfits! I just HAD to leave a comment for you (I know, I’ve been a faithful follower but not a faithful commenter!) because I snagged the ombre sweater vest on black friday. I would have been intimidated by it but I always love how you style it and secretly have wanted one ever since I spotted yours. I love it!

Thanks for all the fun blog posts : )

    • Oh my gosh! You seriously made my day yesterday. I saw your comment right after dinner. I was having a very bad self esteem day and you made me feel so good. Thank you so much for that. You truly raised my spirits.

And congrats on the vest! I think it is so pretty! I wish they had ombre when I bought mine. I wear it at least once a week in the winter. You are going to love it!

Thank you! Thank you! Your words meant a lot to me.

      Have a super Friday!

  3. I love this. Absolutely love this! You look beautiful. The coat looks so cozy and I love the colours. I love that you’re rocking a hat with this outfit! Hats and I don’t get along, sadly.

    • Thank you Liana! I usually avoid hats because I hate getting hot. This is the only one that I have. But my daughter shares it with me. In fact, she wore it yesterday!

      Have a fabulous Friday!

  4. You look so good in hats. I am jealous of that. I have some very much needs to be washed hair and I would love to use a hat before school pick up for Colin….but I am just not sure that will happen! I am glad you got some more use out of your coat. I just adore it. I will love it from afar, as it don’t think I could handle the wool/itch factor. It is just SO pretty though….

    • Thank you Alicia! You could so rock a hat! I can picture it in my head right now! The coat is itchy, but with the long sleeves, it does not bother me so much. I think if it were warm, the itch would be intolerable. Of course, if it were warm, I would not be wearing this coat… Probably. ; )

      Sweet dreams!

      Jenni

  5. Yeay for stripes, I love them! I think you styled them well together, you definitely don’t look like you’re wearing clashing stripes to me. And that jacket, oh my it’s pretty & beautiful on you!
    :)rebecca

    • Thank you Rebecca! I am wearing that jacket tomorrow. I am trying to get as much use from it as I possibly can. I do really love it! It is easy.

      Have a Super Tuesday!

  6. I like your combo of 3 different stripes. And I LOVE your blanket coat with sleeves thing. I have one too (technically two) very similar. I’m super short and sometimes feel as though ti is taking over my whole body!

And may I say that missing a deal is so over rated, you did well to buy this and try to get as much use out of it as possible.

Thank you so much for joining the #reasonstodress linkup, I’ve feeling much better and will be better about being social!
