Falling For Oldies

IMG_9852.JPG

I find it really hard sometimes to understand that I have enough clothes. For years I barely had any and it is hard to get my mind in a state of change. Especially when something I have been wanting goes on sale. I am learning to just let things go.

Quality over quantity.

And all of that.

I shopped my closet and put together these two pieces from Anthropologie many years ago. The skirt is old. I only remember it was one of the first Anthropologie pieces I bought on sale. I rarely wear it. I have found it hard to style in the past.

But then I paired it with this top that I often forget that I have, but when I remember, I get super happy. I love the red and white striped silhouette with the dramatic crochet sleeves.

The earrings are old, too. They are ombre thread wrapped hoops. Although I forgot to request a closeup, I think you can kind of see them here, in a picture for an upcoming cookie post.

Do you have any items in your closet that unexpectedly make a happy outfit marriage? I love when I can find new ways to wear a piece of clothing.

    • Bring it! I will have some ready! : ). I am so close to posting this recipe but I want to try them out in one more friend’s oven first. I did that with another friend and discovered that her oven made the cookies flatter and I had to add so much flour at her house, so I need to see which oven is the norm.

      Have a happy week!

  1. And the second part of my comment which didn’t come through was, Darling outfit. Just an example as to why people like us don’t throw out things we haven’t worn in ages. You just ever know when something is going to ‘click’.

    • Thank you Brynne! I always miss an item when I give it away. But lately I have needed to weed some stuff out.

I am wondering why the comment did not go through. I am commenting dirrectly to my site lately to see the issue for myself and I have noticed it happen to me, too. I need to figure that out. Sorry about that!

      Sweet dreams!

  2. what a cute combo! especially with boots! I love your gnomes in the yard, too ๐Ÿ™‚ I have purchased many must haves only to find I never wear them…it’s always fun to go back and make stuff work!

    • Thank you Melodee! Yes, I have so many things that I had to have only to only wear it once. I am trying to make smarter purchases. I really want the Pom Wrap at Anthropologie but I know I would not get enough wear out of it in California to justify the cost. Maybe one day it will be a great sale price!

      Have a super week!

  3. I love finding new ways to wear old clothes. Especially when I have an attachment to my older Anthro items. This outfit is so sweet, Jenni. That red makes me happy!

  4. I agree with you completely..for years I didn’t have much either and now its hard to remember that I also have enough. I must practice remembering that more, I think ๐Ÿ™‚ You look adorable !

    • Thank you Kara! I am glad you understand. It is a really hard thing to come to terms with and I definitely struggle. I think I am getting better, but it is an ongoing process of thought.

      Have a beautiful week!

  5. Yes… absolutely. (That was my reaction to your first paragraph).

I have too many clothes. To the point that I don’t get a chance to include all my lovely things in regular rotation.

I love your outfit, and how you created it from what you already have. You look beautiful.

    • Thank you Liana. That is exactly where I am. I am trying very hard to wear what I all ready own. But I just scored two popbacks of jeans at $7.50 each, a cardigan for $10 and a shirt for $10 that I want to wear. I didn’t need them but they were too good of a price to say no to. Retail price was almost $500. How could I resist? ugh. Bargains are my frienemy.

      Have a cheerful week!

  6. The pieces look like they were made to go together, so cute and perfect with the Gnomes! Are those Gnomes vintage? I have some Kmart ones but the vintage ones I have seen are nicer.
I am right there with you when it comes to shopping my closet. I have some old Anthropologie that I have never worn before and I should get to it.
I love your kitchen photos and since my daughter has seen some, she thinks I should copy you and pose with food in the kitchen for a change of pace.
Love the chocolate chip cookie picture!
    Have a nice afternoon,
    Stacey

    • Thank you Stacey! I love those gnomes. I am not sure if they are vintage. My husband’s father passed away a few years ago, and we found all three of them on his property. He was not someone who would collect gnomes, so it was a neat surprise into his personality. It is nice that they are in our yard now. I know they mean a lot to my husband.

And you should definitely do kitchen pictures! They are so much fun. There are only a few problems. I generally cook at night when the light is not good for pictures, so to get a good kitchen shot, it needs to be lunch or a baked treat so you can get the best light. : ). And thank you!

I hope you have a super week!

  7. I love those 2 items together, they are paired perfectly, I think! I really like them both, super pretty & I swoon over crochet & white stitching on the skirt. I was telling a friend today about 3 high end designer finds (& a couple of other things) I purchased this weekend for 80% off (how could I not purchase them when my receipt said I saved $990!!!!!! Thank you nordstrom rack!) & how I can’t shop anymore!!! She agreed & we both said that we have lots of things we’ve never worn. But when you find such a great sale, it’s hard to turn it down knowing you’ll wear it someday! ๐Ÿ™‚ She said she’s going to start shopping her closet & I am too, & pairing things maybe I haven’t before! Fun & endless combinations! I think you’re very creative styling things & you always look chic & pretty!

    • Thank you Rebecca! I cannot wait to see your finds! What deals! I agree. It is so hard to turn down a deal. It is my biggest weakness. I still have not managed it. I just bought two $10 items that retailed for $250 because I could not possibly say no. Sigh. Today I wore all things I found in my closet. I love creating knew outfits with older pieces.

You are so sweet! Have a marvelous week!

  8. Well now I’m just going to have to scour eBay for that top! It’s gorgeous!
As you can well imagine, I fully understand that nonsensical need to amass stuff. For so long, we really struggled, and the very idea of buying something new was laughable. I was incredibly lucky though, to live not too far away from a wonderful thrift store. Since it bordered a much wealthier area, the assortment of high-end labels was dazzling. I can’t tell you how many times I would find brand-new items with the tags still attached, now within my price range! When we first moved to our current locale, one of the first things we did was search out the local thrift stores. Point of fact: a solid 75% of my wardrobe still comes from thrifting (or ebaying). But, there’s a danger in thrift stores that are two well-stockedโ€ฆ I want all the pretty things! And because I went so long in the ‘without’ phase, I find it hard to resist snatching up all the amazing deals.
