Keepin’ It Real: October 2014

I think I say this every month, but… What happened?! How is it the end of the month all ready?! It just does not feel like it should be November yet. October was an easy month for our family. And I very much appreciated that. We now all have our flu shots. No major sicknesses or injuries occurred (except for a minor burn I received from volcanic spaghetti sauce. I have a new scar on my left arm). Who needs tattoos? I’ll just keep splattering molten food on my body (not really. Kids don’t do that at home). Without further ado, some of the highlights and funny moments of the month:

I rented a bounce house for my daughter and a few friends for my daughter’s birthday. I thought she was crazy to want a bounce house at the age of fifteen, but it was a huge source of fun for everyone. My husband, my son and myself got in it when it was dark and watched the stars through the net. We took turns laying down while one person jumped and threw the others into the air with the momentum. There is nothing quite like laying in the belly of a giant inflatable beast and watching the crisp autumn sky. You must try it one day, if you haven’t all ready.

Outfit Outtakes.

Our house last night on Halloween:

It was the first Halloween I have not made goody bags since I moved out on my own. I do not get enough trick or treaters any more to justify making them. But full sized candy bars were had by all last night. And by all, I mean the four trick or treaters we had. I bought ninety candy bars, so that means I have eighty six left, right? My thighs are crying with guilt at the real answer to that.

I have been slowly going through this book. Not allowing myself to read too much at a time. It is like a bag of Lindt Truffles. I only want to savor one page. One paragraph. One line in all of its beauty. I am enjoying it so far. Have you read my favorite author, Patrick Rothfuss yet? If not, do not start with this book. Start with my very favorite book, “The Name of the Wind”. It is beautiful. It is fantasy. He is a brilliant writer.

We went to a Benihana-like restaurant for my daughter’s birthday. I forgot how much fun those types of restaurants are. We need to go again sooner than later.

Coming Up In November:

I Hate Pigeons (I originally had this scheduled for October, but the only picture I could get was of a dove. I was worried it would offend someone with the glowing eyes I set in it. What do you think?)

How was your October? How was your Halloween? I am so sorry I have been behind in comments. I am catching up on all of them today.

  1. Hey Jenni!

Glad you and your family had a happy October =)

That bounce house looks like fun…Great birthday idea!!

Can’t wait to see your Llama skirt 🙂 You styled it adorable in the sneak peak!

    Have a great weekend :0) ♥

  2. Love your curls in that last picture! Also love how your house is a friendly Halloween house. Don’t think I didn’t notice that kitty pumpkin. I now need to rent a bouncy house. Sounds like heaven! You also have THE BEST outtakes!!

    • Thank you Cynthia! I just had my hair done that day. She did that. I can never manage to get my hair to curl like that. My daughter is all about the cats! That was her kitty pumpkin! : ). I was in charge of putting the lights in the pumpkins but I am allergic and so I did not want to touch the insides. The lid got stuck and so that poor pumpkin had the light on the outside.

      Have a beautiful Sunday!

      Jenni

  3. love the bounce house story! so fun to go in and play! we have done that before, but not for a while now as those days seem to be over with our teens…your front porch looks adorable! LOVE that last skirt…omg! I think I ordered a similar scarf from Jane…haha! I am so happy it’s November, and cooler!!!! happy weekend 🙂

    • Thank you Melodee! It was such a good purchase. I got it for $84 for the day. It was well worth it! And that llama skirt! Squeeling! I LOVE IT! I hope I get to see your scarf soon!

      Have a happy Sunday!

  4. You are so organized to be able to prepare your posts in advance!! I’m a night before type of woman!

I seriously laughed out loud at your outfit out takes and can I say you are the BEST MOM EVER!

Of course it makes sense for a 15 year old to want to jump in a castle, because they are never allowed to when younger kids are around.

I have to remember this, and I can’t believe you have a 15 year old!

    • Thanks Angie!

I have to have an outline for posts. I am inherently disorganized. I need to have a plan for the month in order to be able to post daily. I do sneak in unplnned things. I wrote this post last night. But I do have a general idea of what is going up at all times. It is silly but true.

I can’t believe I have a fifteen year old. She leaves for college in less than three years! My heart is breaking at the thought.

      Have a super week!

      Jenni

  5. I had a nice October and since it is my favorite month, I’m sad it’s over. I’m still in the process of packing up decorations.
That frog bounce house is so funny. I would think that the teenagers would jump in it for about ten minutes and then run back inside for a movie night. Did it go over well with that age group?
    Have a pleasant evening,
    Stacey
