Otomi Inspired Dress

The moment I saw this dress online, I knew I had to have it.

I am obsessed with Otomi.

I have an Otomi inspired bathroom, Otomi inspired bedding, and real Otomi pieces layered throughout the home.

I cannot get enough of the colorful animal print.

My dress is made by one of my favorite designers, Carolina K. It is now on sale in her online store. Keiko Lynn previously wore the dress in yellow.

I paired my dress with bright yellow accents. In the wintertime, I will wear it with an olive green blazer, black tights, a black slip and booties.

Does it not look like I am dissing that poor child doing his homework? Well, I’m not. He is actually being punished and is currently writing, “I will not tell Miss Jenni her skirt is too short,” fifty times.

I still don’t think he believed it.

When I first tried on this dress sans a slip and layers (the white part in the middle of the dress is my slip. The v of the dress is very low), my husband’s eyes almost popped out of his head.

And it wasn’t from the cute little animals. Unless that’s what they’re calling them these days.

Based on his reaction, I layered this dress with a white slip and a little tulle skirt.

And it is perfect to wear around town.

Even if my town involved insolent cartoon figures and miniature stalls.

Do you have a print that speaks to you? What is it? And do you wear it as well as put it in your home?

  1. This could have turned into a whole other blog if you didn’t have that white slip and tulle skirt. NSFW.

I love the print though. Since I design prints I’m a sucker for most of them. Whimsical especially.

  2. Oh my! This dress is just too adorable – I especially love it with the tulle skirt beneath! I have yet to add some otomi to my life, but thank you for the reminder that yes, I do need little frolicking animals somewhere in my home/wardrobe 🙂

  3. What a sweet sweet dress! I love the tulle underneath. Great idea! I really loved that Otomi print dress from Anthro this summer. I wonder what they did with all of those dresses they wouldn’t sell? I may have to investigate!

    • Thank you Cynthia! I wonder what became of those dresses, too. They were awesome! I just wish they had sleeves! If you find out, please let me know! : )

      Have a super Friday!

  4. The dress looks great on you, and I love the tulle peaking out! Off topic, but I bought the Song bird skirt awhile back, but haven’t worn it. I was wondering if you had risked washing yours yet (tag says dry clean). I am considering returning it because I work with kids and my clothes really should get washed! From now on I will be checking the washing instructions more carefully before buying!

    • Thank you Sharon! I have dry cleaned my skirt, but have not tried washing it. It is one of those materials that I think might get ruined in the wash. I would not risk it. I hope that helps! 🙂

      Have a gorgeous week!

    • Thank you Melodee! I got this slip/skirt at Nordstrom Rack a few years ago on clearance for $10. I have gotten a lot of use out of it. I try to always snatch up clearanced slips. They always come in handy!

      Have a fun evening!
