Bow Me Over

IMG_0153.JPG

I have owned this dress for years and years. I originally purchased it from Anthropologie. I cannot recall its name. I have rarely worn it.

My husband always told me it was too short.

But I decided to pair it with tights the other day to hide the length.

I do not know if it worked, but it made me feel better.

By the way, I had to edit this picture and I am now forbidden from carrying this little blue gnome in pictures anymore. On the ground is fine. But my husband says he doesn’t look like a gnome when I am carrying him. Whoops!

I originally began thinking about this dress when I was browsing Modcloth’s website and fell in love with its twin. I thought to myself, “That dress is so cool. I love the bow in the back.”

It took me a few moments to realize that I all ready owned a dress almost exactly like it. Except I like Modcloth’s version a little better. Their bows seem more sturdy and structured as opposed to my floppy bows.

I got so excited to style the dress with my bow boots from Anthropologie. These boots are sold out, but Modcloth has a similar boot this year.

Do you see the rubber on the bottom of my boot’s heel? It has collected tiny rocks and it makes the heel slip on smooth surfaces. It also creates a horrendous noise. It has been that way since I first wore them. Do you have any idea what I can do to fix this? It makes me not wear them too often.

I also think if I wore this outfit again I would pair it with a more neutral tight. I like these tights, but I am not so sure of this combo.

Oh well, at least they’re not bowing. Fun wins every time for me.

Just like this octopus bracelet I wore this day. What does an octopus have to do with bows?

Who bows? I guess you could make the connection that my dress is blue and octopuses live in blue water.

Then they could be tied together.

Do you ever have a moment when you realize that you really like an outfit, and then have an even better moment when you figure out that you can recreate it with items all ready in your closet? Do you have anything in your closet that you have never worn or barely wear? What makes you hang onto it?

I think I fear I will one day need the item in question. If I didn’t have it, I might be remorseful.

Bow what I’m sayin’?

  1. I’m like you, once I get rid of that piece then suddenly I will have a need for it. I’m trying to get better about that though because my closet is seriously bursting. I need to take more time and go through it.

Hmmmm….methinks I know what your husband thinks that gnome looks like! LOL NSFW.

    That bracelet is super cute.

    • You are probably right! ; ). I almost left the picture unedited but it was too disturbing.

And thank you about the bracelet! : ). It is one of my favorites!

      Have a super week!

  2. Oh but I love those tights with this dress! The tights are dramatic but matching the blue background with a blue dress tones it down.

    • Thank you so much for letting me know! I will definitely keep them together. I was so excited to find tights that might work with it but then I was unsure so thank you! : )

      Have a beautiful week!

  3. Yes! I am terrible at culling my closet as I am positive that one day I will buy an item that will make that unworn item be wearable. I know this because it ALWAYS happens (even though my husband ALWAYS cautions me about saying ALWAYS…or never).
I wasn’t sure about the tights with this dress until I saw the last picture and then my brain said, ah….it is perfect.

    • Thank you Brynne! Oh my goodness! That is my husband’s pet peeve! He hates when I tell him he always or never does something. It is so funny that your husband has issues with those words, too. I happen to find truth in them. ; ).

      Have a fun week!

  4. You can pick out the rocks with a nail or take the shoes to a cobbler to get “re-heeled.” Some dry cleaners do shoe work. It is hard to find a cobbler/shoe repair person but it would probably be worth the cost. The boots and the whole outfit are really cute on you!

    • Thank you for the compliment and for the advice! There are so many rocks, I am not sure they will come out. I will have to check the cobbler. I think that whole heel bottom needs to be replaced. The material they made it with is so odd. None of my other boots are made with it!

Have a super week and thank you again!

  5. I hang on to clothes for the same reason – I might need them someday.

That dress is adorable. I wonder if it is the same dress? Remember those skirts that I found at ModCloth that they sold at Anthro a year earlier? I wonder if it’s the same situation? Hmmm…

Cheeky bright blue gnome. Glad your husband is on to him! 😉

  6. Hi Jenni! I am on a different computer and I filled in the form on my comment wrong. Sorry! I put my blog in the name section for some reason and my comment is awaiting moderation. I am going to repost it again and see if I can do it right this time.

    Here’s what I said:

    • Thank you Cynthia! No worries! I approved it! That way if you ever use that name again it will go through no problem. But I will respond to this one. : )

I do not think it is the same dress. My dress only has one bow and a lot of buttons and their dress has two bows. But I have noticed more and more similarities between merchant’s clothes the more I look. Everyone inspires each other. I like it because it gives me more options and prices.

And that gnome is so naughty. Who knew?!

      Have a super Sunday!

  7. Okay, so now that I’ve peed myself laughing… 😉 I love it. This even beats your tea party with the gnomes post, you gloriously demented woman! 🙂 🙂
Also, how beautiful do you look here! I love the bows theme, and I don’t think the tights were too “noisy” at all – they set off the understated, simple dress really nicely! That dress is a great canvas for bigger/more unusual jewellery too, like that gorgeous bracelet. Which is so “you” I kind of can’t picture anyone else wearing it! You’re right, they do live in the deep blue sea, that’s a logical in my mind, too!
As for your boots? Go to a cobbler and get them resoled! That doesn’t cost so much over here. I’m sure you can find a decent one near where you live. It’s such a shame that crummy soles are keeping you from wearing such gorgeous boots!

    • Thank you Gwen! Oh man, you should have seen the actual picture. I will send it to you anyway. Then you can see why my husband has banned it. I had a funny line further down in the post but since I was all ready being a little bad with the picture, I cut it out. I am glad you liked it, though. : )

And thank you for the sweet compliments! I appreciate it! : ). There were actually people here and I could not relax for the pictures. I felt so ridiculous than we walk to the car and my husband tells me it looks like I am posing and walking with a certain toy. I was so embarrassed!

I will definitely go to a cobbler! I was hoping for a magic fix! : )

      Have a lovely week!
