NOW CLOSED: 19th Blog Giveaway: $25 Anthropologie e-Gift Card

This giveaway is now closed. Thank you to all who entered.

Nineteen months of blogging! Thank you all for your encouragement. Your presence. Being you. I cannot express how much of a joy it has been to meet all of you. Now that I am on Instagram, it has been even more fun to see some of your faces. Thank you for letting me into your lives.

Time is passing so quickly. I had no idea what I wanted to give away this month. I meant to go out and actually pick something up, but then I stayed at home and read three books instead. I have not been to any stores. Not an Anthropologie. Not a Nordstrom Rack. Or a World Market. Not even a Target. In weeks.

I should change my blog’s name to Doesn’t Ever Leave The House, Not Ever, Unless We Run Out Of Pringles Salt And Vinegar Chips. But that would be too long. And giving away a case of salt and vinegar chips seems extreme, even for me.

So, let’s keep it simple.

This month I am giving away a $25 e-gift card to Anthropologie. Because even though I have not purchased anything there in a few weeks (although I know without a doubt I am purchasing this jacket soon), they remain my favorite store.

To enter for a chance to win the $25 e-gift card:

Please leave a comment with your pet’s name. I would love to hear the reasoning behind the name, but that is up to you. If you do not have a pet or if that is too personal, any comment will do (as long as it is positive). Pets have been on my mind this week. Murphy got sick, but his blood results came back great. It must have been a bug. We named him Murphy because we missed out on a dog on a Bichon Frisé rescue site named Murphy. The rescuers told us they had another dog that would be perfect for us. He was a rescue they had named Ryder a few weeks earlier. He had been left to starve in a foreclosure. He weighed less than ten pounds when we adopted him and now he weighs twenty two. We renamed him Murphy, because we loved that name from the first dog and that was that.

You may earn a second entry into the giveaway by becoming a registered reader of this blog. There are many ways to do so on the right hand side of this page. If you are a registered reader please leave a second comment stating such. The second comment is your second entry.

Limit two entries per person in the forms specified.

The giveaway runs from October 10, 2014 12:00 a.m. PST to October 16, 2014 9:00 p.m. PST. I will be choosing one winner from the comments entered on this post for the $25 e-gift card to Anthropologie using random.org. I will contact the winner on October 17, 2014 and display the winner’s name on this blog on October 18, 2014.

Thank you! Thank you for entering. For being awesome. I love you guys!

By commenting on this post, you are entering this giveaway for a chance to win one $25 e-gift card to Anthropologie and agreeing to the rules outlined in this giveaway.

I will attempt to contact the winner three times with the email address provided. If I have not heard from the winner within fourteen days from the first attempt at contact, the prize will be forfeit and a new winner will be drawn.

  1. Ahhh this one was made for me! We adopted our dog, Wesley, from a California shelter back in January. We live in Tacoma, WA. The local shelter we worked with brings dogs here from CA when they run out of time down there and are facing The End 🙁 He’s a German shepherd and golden retriever mix, about five years old, and he had a crappy life. This is evident to us in many ways, not the least of which is how fearful he is of my kind-hearted husband even after ten months of gentle love and patience. He’s just a momma’s boy, I guess. He loves me more than anyone or anything has ever loved me, and my heart is his. We named him Wes after the boyfriend of one of my coworkers, odd huh? I was showing off photos of my new family member, and Alexys said “I don’t know what it is, he reminds me so much of Wes”. It just clicked. Wesley. The dog and the man, they do have the same soulful, sad brown eyes. That’s our story… someday I hope my Wes will be as sweet to my hubs as he is to me. He’s such a love and has added so much value to my life. We don’t have kids, he’s our boy plus the two kitties makes a full house!

  2. My bully boy is named Rocky. We re-homed him in May from a family who had a daughter that was allergic. Since he was two and already used to the name, we just kept it. He does have a few nicknames such as Rockstar, Mr. Boy, and Rockydoo. If I was going to gave him a name, it would have been Basil after a character played by John Cleese (Monty Python) on a show called Fawlty Towers on BBC. He played Basil Fawlty.

P.s. I follow you on Bloglovin and on Facebook!

  3. After all this time being a lurker (ugh…that’s a dreadful term for silent reader, isn’t it?!?) I simply have to comment on this one! Let me preface this whole thing by telling you that first and foremost I am a dog lover. Truly, deeply, down to the marrow…it’s a dog’s life for me. We had a whole series of amazing hounds growing up and even into adulthood. To make a short story of a very long, very complicated, disastrous one… I am now the single mother of a special needs child who rocks my world. Among the many many wishes that I have for my child, one of the ones that has always lived in the back of my head is that I wish he were able to grow up with a dog. But, we live in an apartment the size of a postage stamp…so until we miraculously upgrade, a dog would be miserable in our home. Which brings me round to the pet who made our home feel even smaller and our hearts 100 times bigger.
Two years ago, in the week before Christmas, a friend of mine asked us to stop off at a site he’d left something behind at during his work day. He and my son went right in, while I parked. I entered just in time to hear “if you like her, you could take her home”. Whaaaat?!? Mind you, I had No Idea what was going on. All I saw was a darling pink nose and whiskers peeking out from my son’s arms, and his megawatt smile. And there I stood…experiencing one of those 100 years in 10 seconds moments….the ones where you have an internal dialogue that last forever…I was being strong armed into…???cat??? ownership?!? Whaaaat? I am not a cat person! No matter what I said I was totally going down as Bad Cop if this creature did not come home with us. And so, I relented…and regretted the words as they tumbled out. ‘The Cat’ was promptly packed into a pet-tote, scanned and deposited into my still-in-shock arms.
Now me being me, I recovered my poise once we were in the car and steered toward the nearest pet supply shoppe. Where I promptly bought a cat bed, a few tons of cat food, enough cat toys to entertain several litters and…a collar and leash. Because if I was going to be saddled with a cat, that cat was going to be as much of a dog as possible! Home we came…33% larger of a family. And as you can well imagine, ‘the cat’ immediately took over everything. My son was delighted!
After a day or so of remaining nameless, and simply being referred to as ‘the bane of my existence’ due to her propensity for knocking over everything everywhere, we finally set ourselves to the task of naming her. We used the post-it method and soon covered a wall in possibilities. The week prior, my sons therapist had read a book called “All Cats Have Aspberger’s” in his social skills therapy group. So he came up with Aspie and was adamant that choice was the only one. I was less than convinced. After intense debate, bargaining, pleading, and many sniffly tears…we finally came up with a The Name. The only one that would do, because of course it was her’ sand always had been. Katja Noel…a nod to our Germanic half and a nod to the impending holiday. And so she remains to this day, our darling Katja Noel…the only cat who could ever break down the barriers of this dog lover’s heart.
And yes, I put on her collar and leash and take her for a walk down to the bus stop twice a day.

      • Thank you so much Liana! It’s very much a case of winning me over…she’s literally the perfect pet for us. And she’s so amazing with my son…as though she knows just what he needs from her.

      • Thank you Jenni, for taking the time to let me know that. I was sure I had over-shared right after it posted and I saw the length! But really, none of that contains what a miracle she’s become for us. My son is so bonded with her and she with him…she seems to know exactly what he needs the very moment he gets home from school…and she lets him snuggle until he’s done!

  4. Don’t have a pet at the moment… The only pet I have ever had was a Yorkshire Terrier named Tyler. It has been a long time since he has been gone. I miss him very much. He passed of congestive heart failure 🙁 Tyler was bilingual and understood Greek too! ♥

    mmalavec(at)med(dot)umich(dot)edu

  5. My pony is Ruby Tuesday, after the Rolling Stones song (though when she was born my mom wanted to name her after a Beatles song…woops!)

  6. Dont have a pet 🙁 fell in love with a puppy a few weeks ago, that we named Cookie, but we havent decided to get him for sure yet

  7. When I knew we wanted to get a Chihuahua, I thought we would get a male and I wanted to name him Mocho after the dog in the movie The Mexican. We ended up getting a female instead and just adjusted the name to Mocha. Which is great because I now LOVE mochas!!! She just turned 12 last month and I can’t imagine life without her!

  8. Hi! Two dogs, the eldest is 13, her name is Chamois, we got her as a puppy.. she is part golden ret./part chow.. kind of named her for her color and softness.. also a rescue dog who already was named Bella, which doesn’t really suit her.. but she loves it.. so.. lol. She is a mix of all sorts of breeds, she herds the kids, points at birds, rips up stuff, and is stinky.. but loves us more than any animal we’ve had.. she reminds me of a seal… a crazy seal. I must mention(because they are part of me) my 2 cats, sisters, who just passed away at 18 yrs.. I found them behind the hay bales at my mom’s old farm.. before their eyes were open.. one was short-haired black with white whiskers and paws and a little dot by her nose, I called “Katya” and her fuzzy calico sister with super curly whiskers was “Minx”.. Here on earth now, we have one former stray cat, my son calls Tiger.. but I call “fat Orange” because he is obsessed with eating, and is always by me in the kitchen. I also adopted a tiny black kitten who I call Honey, because she is the sweetest thing ever and has honey-colored eyes. My husband kind of makes fun of her name, and says it like an old lady would… so now we all say it that way.. sigh.

  9. We have a cat named Oscar. He was the very last kitten to be caught from a litter that was had in co-workers back shed. She offered them to people at work before she was going to take them to the pound. We were going to name him Earl, but when we met him, it just did not fit. We later found out that Oscar means ” jumping fighter” and he is very true to his name. Not the most loving cat, a whole lot of hassle and ruined a whole lot of things….BUT he has made it through 2 house, a cross-country move and going from indoor to an indoor/outdoor cat. He must have a trillion lives. We just can seem to give him up. He adores Ryan and tolerates the kids. So, we keep the jumping fighter.
I am excited about this giveaway and crossing my fingers! My birthday is the 18th and this would be SO fun 😉

  10. My sweet dog is named Bella Meesha. She is a yorkie! We got her as a puppy from a family who had the mommy dog, dad dog, grandma dog and uncle dog!! True story! Never met a dog family tree all at one place. The mommy dogs name is Meesha and I loved it and wanted to incorporate it into my Bellas name.

  11. My dog’s name is Rosa. We did not choose her name. We adopted her from Canine Companion for Independence 10 years ago. She is a lab/golden retriever mix. She was in training to be a wheelchair assistance dog, but after training for a few months at their training facility in Oceanside, they decided she was a little too distracted and nervousness to successfully complete the program, so they called us and we went down to meet her. We fell in love. She is the sweetest, most obedient dog, and se was fully trained. We were in a waiting list for two years for one of their “release dogs”. It was well worth it. I don’t think they have a list for their dogs anymore. I am always asked where we got her because people are so impressed with her. So she was 18 months when we got her, so we didn’t change her name. We also call her Rosie, Rose, and Rosa Lee.

  12. We have a rescue dog named Sandy. I let my husband name her because I brought her home without telling him after we promised each other to both meet any dog we were considering getting. She is an awesome dog and we have had her for almost 9 years now . I knew someone else would adopt her if I didn’t take right away. No regrets at all.

  13. My husband and I have 2 sulcata tortoises named Lewis and Clark. We named them that because they are always tromping around and exploring things. 🙂

  14. We don’t have any pets currently but in the past have had a rescue pet as well and it was wonderful….can’t imagine getting a pet any other way so many out there to rescue!

  15. No dog right now…my dog Sophie passed away in March. She was almost 17! My dog growing up was Bailey, and my parents registered her, which required a middle name. So they chose Bailey PuppyChow. 🙂

  16. Your poor dog! He’s so lucky your family rescued him. I hope he’s feeling better today. It’s the worst when our pets are sick.

We have a Scottie that we got at a shelter (she’d been a stray), and I ADORE her. We named her Isabelle, but call her Izzy. It fits her 🙂

  17. My dog’s name is Willie Nelson because his personality kinda matches the really Willy’s. We also have 5 chickens who are named the “Golden Girls” because they are golden in color and ruffle each other just like the gals on the show.

  18. Oh, I love reading these pet stories! My big fuzzy Maine-Coon cat is named Ghibli, after Studio Ghibli, the animation studio of Hayao Miyazaki. He is such a Totoro! He came to us at the age of two, already named Georges (pronounced in the french way) and I will sometimes call him that if he’s being very special. He also gets called Ghibbles, and Pumpkin, and when he greets me at the door it’s always Bobo… I might be a little obsessed, but he is my boy, always looking to snuggle!

    • Congratulations on the blogiversary- your posts are always beautiful and fun! I follow through google, and would probably be just as thrilled with a crate of salt and vinegar chips but the logistics of shipping would be difficult 🙂

  19. Hi! I tried to leave you a comment last night on your instagram post, but my iPad was being weird & wouldn’t show that portion of your blog (& a few others.), I think/hope bc of low battery. So I just went to my instagram & started following you. I’m so excited bc it’s my favorite. When I got my iPhone (my/our first smartphone) it was the first app I downloaded bc I LUV pictures! I LUV Instagram bc of the filters that can change the pics! Now I have a few other apps that coordinate w/ Instagram so I can make collages, re-size a pic so it’s not cropped, & add neat fonts & doodles! So, yeay! It’s kind of my go to form of fast social media (though my blog will always be more indepth) since it’s easy & right there on my phone!

Now, onto the blog giveaway, yeay for anthropologie! You know we have 2 kitties. When our old cat, Brinkley (bc I always loved that name) passed away we were going to wait before adopting a new pet. About 4 months later a small, super friendly & sweet, approx. 8 month old black kitty came to our house & we gave her milk & love. At this time several new houses had just been completed, & several more had been turned over from for closures & new people had moved in, so I wondered if she was a pet. After her coming to us every day for several days I went to all the new people to ask if she belonged to anyone & she didn’t. So we decided it was fate bringing us a new kitty who needed a home. We live near a farm & there are lots of farm cats, so I think she must have been one. We would see her going into the drain around our neighborhood. She wasn’t scared of our loud, playing kiddos either & she’d just curl up to us & purr. When we took her to be spayed & get shots the vet noticed that one of her long teeth had been broken, prob in a fight. We had seen a mean tomcat chasing her on one of the first days we saw her & it broke my heart. We let Grace name her bc this was the first pet that we adopted with the kiddos & G really, really wanted a pet named Lily. That was 3 yrs. ago! Her first night to stay w/ us forever (in the house) was valentine’s day, apropos, I think for sure! So her name is Lily Love! And, you know the story of new little Sadie. She too was a kitten in need of a home, but luckily she was taken to an awesome shelter where she was cared for. She was even in a foster home for a month so she could reach the 2 lb. mark to be adopted! We love her too. She’s such a playful kitten, but so loving as well! We’re so lucky to have these 2 loving, adorable kitties in our home!

I always wanted to name a golden retriever or a lab Murphy! That was my dream as a teenager, so i love that name so much! So glad he’s doing better. It’s horrible when a pet is sick bc, like a baby or child, they can’t tell you what’s wrong & it’s heartbreaking to see them suffer, sadly we know this from experience.

    Happy weekend to you!
    :)rebecca

  20. My pussycat’s name is Aspen. We adopted her from the SPCA and her previous owners had given her that name. However, as a TS Eliot fan I know that all cats actually have three names, so her full name is Aspen Pistachio Cleopatra. Her second name is “Pistachio” because that is the colour of her gorgeous eyes. Her third name is “Cleopatra” because of her regal mein, especially when lounging on the wool throw on top of the sofa, depositing cat hair with abandon.

Of course, per TS Eliot, she also has another (effanineffable, deep and inscrutable, singular) name that I will never know.

  21. We have an orange cat named Nikki. She came with that name from the humane society.

Our black and white cat is Hermes. We got him shortly after we got married and he’s named after our concierge on our honeymoon 🙂 (the humane society had been calling him Gunther- ha!)

Our dog came with the name Gauge. The breeder named all the pups after rifle brands and parts, haha! But we thought it was kinda cute and it stuck!

  22. We’re still missing our sweet Nikko, our mostly white Sheltie, who came with his name when we took him home from the local shelter. He was already 4 years old, so we didn’t want him to get confused with a new name…and it seemed to fit him perfectly. Now we have sweet little Sadie – our small, all black terrier mix/mutt rescue – whose name was chosen from a list of approximately 74 names that my youngest son had been working on for a couple of years (during which time he was also working on Mom & Dad…trying to get another dog to add to our family!). I’ve often thought Sadie could’ve also been named Shadow, since she follows me everywhere, or Scampers, because she is crazy excited in the morning and runs all over the house in a happy frenzy. My husband has a few choice names for her, since they haven’t quite warmed up to each other yet, but I can’t put those in print. 😉

  23. We have two dogs – Java was from the pound and they named her. She’s black and my husband loves coffee, so Java stuck.

We also have Lulu – she’s a neurotic poodle golden mix, she’s big and orange with crazy hair & Lulu just seems to fit her.

  24. all of our current kitties were rescues who came with fabulous names…our recent additions are Sprite and Sierra (the litter was names after sodas) and our other 2 are Malcolm and Ratchet…perfect names for our loves 🙂 Thanks for the entry!

  25. We adopted our dog from a local shelter. We had originally picked another dog out but someone else adopted him from under us. I was heartbroken and was back at the shelter looking again and I finally met who is now Cooper. He was so sweet and small-he was only 3 months old at the time. He stole my heart immediately. They said we had to wait a few days to adopt him so that gave us time to decide on his name. There is a Cooper St in our town- a friend and I were driving and I saw the Cooper Street sign. I thought to myself that would be a great name for the pup we are going to adopt. My husband and I like to say that he’s named for Bradley Cooper, Anderson Cooper, or Sheldon Cooper but we really know where it came from.

  26. Hi! Happy 19 months. Thank you for sponsoring a giveaway. I’m so excited because after years of hoping for an Anthro in my No Anthro Zone town, our first store is opening at the end of the month!!

I hope Murphy feels better. I love when your dogs appear in your photos. I have two cats that came with my husband. He rescued both of them from the SPCA. The oldest cat is a girl named Liebchen which means “sweetheart” in German. When I started my husband I thought it was the cutest thing that he named her that. He had been learning a new German word every day. A few years later he adopted a male cat, an orange tabby he named “Wedge” after the Star Wars character Wedge Antilles. He is the sweetest cat ever and he thinks he’s a dog.

I have grown to love these cats so much, though my husband is still very much their person.

  27. Any blogger that asks for pet name info is a blogger worth reading, indeed! I have two dogs- both rescues; my oldest is Rosie, a Shepherd/Collie mix. Rosie is the name the rescue had given her and it just suits her, so we didn’t change it. Our other dog is Charlotte- a border collie. My husband really wanted to pick the name for her, and he came up with Charlotte on the ride home from the rescue. The only other pet we have right now is a Bearded Dragon, and I had him named Bjorn about 5 minutes after I first saw him at the pet store. Don’t know why!! Hope your Murphy is doing well and feel better. Your dogs are adorable in your posts

  28. We have two cats. One my husband got a couple months before we started dating. He named the cat Alex, because it is my husbands favorite name. My husband has always wanted to name a future child Alex, but I refuse to name a baby after a cat. My husband says “it won’t be AFTER Alex, it will be as well as Alex, they will both be Alex!” To which my response is always “If we name a child Alex, he will have been always named AFTER the cat was named, Alexcat will always have been first.” Its not happening. But I -jokingly- suggested we name the cat after Alex, Alex Junior, and after that cat, Alex the Third, which my husband has decided is perfect. He is a wonderfully strange man.

Our other cat was adopted by a roommate, and the roommate decided on the name Baku. I never liked the name, but the cat had me charmed from the very first moment. He was and is a little runt, and needs more attention and time than any cat I have ever known. He cries when he’s alone, and when he is hungry. So I started calling him Babycat, cuz he is such a little baby. And it stuck, and its now what everyone calls him, and even though he is far from being a baby these days, its still his name. So we have Alex, and Babycat. Two ridiculous names for two ridiculous cats.

  29. My cat’s name is Kitty… pretty self-explanatory and extremely inventive, I know 🙂 My family kept going back and forth with possible names, and by the time we all agreed on something, the name Kitty had already stuck!

    • My sister tried several names and ended up with Kittycat, and she stuck around until the age of 18. A friend of mine tried numerous cultural and scholarly names for her two cats, but they ended up being Girlcat and Boycat (and are thus probably jealous of their new brother who got to be named Moishe, which is an awesome cat name!)

  30. WONDERFUL NEWS about Murphy. Love that little face. Our first dog was when the boys were young. Joel brought her home and told the boys he was going to throw out some words and they were to come up with a name that rhymed with that word until one name was said that they thought would be a good name for her. The name ~~ Kelly ~~ rhymes with ~~ smelly. Ha ha. Our current dog is reddish in color. A lab/chow mix we think. We saved her from the pound where her ‘rap sheet’ stated she ‘viscously chased the neighbor’s chickens’. We told her we had no chickens and she could live with us. Her name is Katherine (as in Katherine Hepburn because if her reddish fur). We call her Katie. She is a good friend.

  31. we have a cat named Pebbles. She has a sister Coco, and they were Coco and Pebbles like the cereal because they are the color of chocolate 🙂 Coco had to move away though, sadly she didn’t like any of the 3 litter boxes we had….
love your blog! will have to follow you on instagram, I rarely go on there, but should more often!

  32. Our family has a long history of naming our pets after historical figures–growing up, our Golden Retriever was Andrew Jackson, and we had cats named Galileo and Benjamin Franklin. When my husband surprised me with an Abyssinian kitten for my birthday a few years ago, I knew I wanted to continue the trend. We decided on Fitzgerald, which is especially appropriate since JFK, Jr. was a former resident of our current apartment!

  33. Our family has two cats, a brother and sister, Charlie and Charlotte. Charlie is very sneaky, always trying to escape outside or steal bits of meat off the stove, whereas Charlotte is always seeking attention and affection.

  34. Jenni, this is OT but I saw your photo on Anthro’s website. You look as cute as ever!

My childhood dog was named Ginger. We named her GInger because her hair color was ginger, of course. She was the cutest mutt ever. We lived in the hills, and she’s go running up the hills and be gone for hours We’d yell her name when it was time for dinner and she’d come crashing down the hillside with thorns all over her face. Such a cute and loyal dog. I still miss her. I wish GoPro had been invented back then because I’d love to stick a GoPro camera on her and see what she’d been up to all day! She had the freedom to do whatever she wanted, and I’m sure she was up to a little mischief.

  35. My dog of 14 years passed away last year. His name was Paddy – short for Paddington. My brother gave him that name when we were little because we loved the Paddington Bear character and Paddy was really fluffy and cuddable. Miss him so much!

  36. I love how you make every giveaway post a story! My “pet,” for I definitely treasure her that way, is a giant 15″ stuffed narwhal (a Squishable) named Dianora, or Nora for short. She’s named after one of my favorite characters in one of my favorite books, Tigana by Guy Gavriel Kay–you should read it if you like epic historical fantasy novels! I would love to have a cat someday, but alas, my current apartment doesn’t allow pets.

  37. My pug is Charlie. My kids named him after a you tube video they watched of a little boy whose baby brother would keep biting his finger. “Charlie bit my finger” the boy keeps saying. Just as the baby pug kept biting out fingers.

  38. Thank you for the giveaway! I have a chinchilla named Gizmo. When the movie Gremlins came out, I was scared s**less of the movie as a kiddo, but always loved cute little Gizmo. Even had a Gizmo stuffed animal. When we adopted this moody little chinchilla, the name just fit him perfectly. He goes crazy and loves his lava dust bath, but don’t you dare wake him from a nap or he’ll bark at you. Silly chinchillas.

  39. I have a standard labradoodle named Cocoa. After much debate, she got her name because she’s black and as a nod to Coco Chanel. As a concession to my children, she got a chocolatey name. Our newest addition is Ginger, a tiny yorkie rescue. We are pretty sure she was used as a breeding dog – she has a lot of wear and tear after so many litters. She’s the sweetest thing ever and will live out the rest of her life as a pampered little purse dog (partly because her back legs aren’t great and she’s better off being carried). Love your blog.

  40. wooow, I hadn’t checked on blogspot and you are running giveaway!! AGAIN!? you crazy girl!!! Maybe I should run it too.. hmm

I don’t have a pet.. but I can share my daughter’s doll’s name.. lol Her name is Momo, which means peach in Japanese. My daughter likes pink and the doll has pink dress on, and thats why. lol

  41. My bearded dragon is named Luna. I got her from a family that didn’t realize she would get so big and require so much care so she was 6 months old and they didn’t know she was female either! I named her Luna because she has light citrus coloring that reminded me of the moon.

  42. I hope Murphy is feeling better.

My dog is named Oscar. He’s a Weimaraner, so we wanted a German name. (I know I have not been posting much “hound” on the blog lately so your post is a reminder for me to share some recent photos).

We also have two cats named Wonsoongi and Ggangpae, the Korean words for “monkey” and “gangster”. I picked those because Wonsoongi used to climb onto my shoulders as a kitten, and Ggangpae had a lot of attitude and was always trying to protect her sister.

  43. Our pooch’s name is Kesh, short for Marrakesh. We visited there a few months before we bought her and loved it ! We love to travel 🙂
Kesh is part-Lab, part German Pointer, so black and white. She is the opposite of an Alpha dog: we call he the Beta dog. She can get bullied by the smallest of dogs at the park (pugs, papillons, maltese, you name it), but we don’t just love her for her bravery. She hides under the table when she’s been bad.
A few pet names for her: “Puppy love”, “Keshling”, and “Keshington”. We also have songs : “She’s Kesh” (sung to the tune of “She’s fresh” by Kool and the Gang) and of course “Marrakesh Express” by Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young.

  44. Oh pet’s names!!! Well. Our first pug (who’s now in pet heaven) was Buddha Mudd. I thought Buddha was the best name for a pug & it fit him perfectly! He had a big belly & would sit up & look like a buddha statue! My husband gave him a middle name of Mudd because he really liked that Primus song ‘My name is Mudd’. Ha!

Evie Isadora was our 2nd pug. (Also in heaven) She was a sleek & skinny black furred girl & I loved her so much! She was black like the night so Evie seemed fitting. (My daughter now goes to school with an Evie). I don’t remember where her middle name came from!

Gatsby Connick is our old boy now. He just turned 13! Still very healthy! Gatsby (after one of my favorite bools) the Great Gatsby! And Connick because I was in a Harry Connick Jr obsession at the time. 🙂

Cooper is our 4th pug & we adopted him from a rescue when he was 1.5 yrs old. We kept his name because Twin Peaks is one of my favorite shows EVER & I love Kyle McLachlan! We even met him while on our honeymoon in London! (along with Woody Harrelson who invited us back to his place but we declined. In hindsight, we should have gone. Can you imagine THAT homeymoon story?!!) Anyway, Cooper, like Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks.

And last but not least. Wallace. Our 8 yr old yorkie who really doesn’t like our kids. We just aquired him last year from neighbors who moved across country. So we didn’t name him but like his name anyway. He’s kind of a grumpy hairy old man you could imagine would be named Mr. Wallace ( which is what we call him).

That’s all 🙂 we love our pups!!!

  45. Congrats! You are always so great at giveaways.

My husband I don’t want children, but I always thought that Cholé Carillo would have made a wonderful name for a girl. When we picked up our puppy I told my husband I wanted to name her that but he said it was weird naming a dog a name I’d picked out for a kid so we compromised and named her Zoé.

    I know. I’m weird. LOL

    bisous

  46. I have a Maine Coon Cat named Bugsy. He’s the one pictured in my Avatar. He was a rescue cat and that was not his name when we got him, but we re-named him Bugsy because he was (is) such a screwball. Being a computer person, my husband said he had “bugs in his hardware system”

  47. I have a cat named Penelope and two dogs, Emma and Elliott. Emma was adopted at 10 months and came with the name. The other two names have always been favorites of mine.

  49. My dogs name is Shadow. He is a Golden Retriever that I rescued from Animal Control last April. Our last Golden,Jake,,had to be put down Nov. 2013 at the age of 13 years. I was so heartbroken that I said I would never go through that again. In April 2014 a dear friend contacted me about a Golden that was owner surrendered at the age of seven. Apparently his former owner was an Iraq war Vet whom had extensive health problems and could no longer care for Shadow. My friend strongly encouraged me to go first thing the next AM to meet this dog. I tried to find excuses to not go but my friend would not hear of any of them. The next morning I am the first person in Animal Control as soon as they opened. As soon as they brought out this terrified sad looking Golden I burst into tears. To make a very long story short, this absolutely beautiful, loving Golden boy is laying here with his head on my lap as I type. I know he will break my heart again someday but the love I receive from him every moment will be worth all the pain!

  50. Zack and Bella are our rescued babies. We also foster for a local rescue. Don’t really remember how we came up with names. The shelter had named Zack chuck and we dislike that name. The shelter had Bella as unknown she was completely shut down and terrified but once we spent time with her she started to open up

  51. We have a dog called Dexter after the cartoon Dexter’s Laboratory. (an old friend’s daughter suggested the name and it just stuck!)

  52. My dog is named Mukha which means face in Sanskrit because she has a cute face and because when we went to adopt her she was doing a yoga pose called adho mukha svanasana meaning downward facing dog pose.

  53. Your pups are so adorable, Jenni! We have (and have had) many, many pet loves. Our current brood are all feline and the first showed up on our doorstep 15 years ago – a long-hair tuxedo kitty that we named Sylvester. We took Sylvester to the vet to get fixed/chipped and found out he was a she! Sylvie’s still with us and is such a love. The other two we adopted from our local animal shelter. Steven was the first, and my kids did not want to change his name because they thought it was perfect. Turns out they were right, though we didn’t know it at the time. The third is a black cat that we adopted on Halloween three years ago. The shelter had named him Joker but he definitely did not fit the name so my husband and and I made a pact that we would tell the kids the shelter didn’t have time to name him (I know, I know…). Our son, who was five at the time, saw him and said “My cat’s name is Boo!” And Boo is his name. Happy Halloween!

  54. I love reading your blog…especially your thoughts on your children – but I also love your taste in clothes!

  55. Well, we don’t technically have a *real* pet yet. That is, he’s imaginary. He’s an imaginary rabbit named Rabato. He’s a little bit evil, I mean, he *was* the Adorable Leader of a small carrot republic who signed away their oil rights for carrots, and would bite UN representatives if they didn’t pet him often enough. Then, he was a farmer for a while – not so successful when you eat your entire carrot crop, eh? And his current career is that of a DJ. His greatest hit is a homage to my conjunctivitis – “Touch the Sky! Touch your Eye!” His left foot has a personality of its own, and is very evil. It keeps kicking Rabato in the face, because one of his hobbies is gnawing at Left Foot. However, Left Foot also opens for him when he’s DJ’ing – it can scratch a record like nobody’s business. If Rabato ever got a tattoo, it would say “CARROTS!!” in large orange letters.

(And babe, you don’t need to enter my comment in your giveaway – I just wanted to share the madness – I mean, the love of CARROTS!! 😉 )

  56. I have two cats.

One is a calico named Lucy. I didn’t name her. I always wonder what the inspiration was—were her former owners a fan of I Love Lucy? Charlie Brown? The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? The Beatles? Or did they just like the name?

The other is an orange cat named Julius. Get it? He’s an Orange Julius. My husband and I have a very silly sense of humor. But the name really suits him!

  57. Ha I love this method of entry. I have a dog named Zipper. He came from the Humane Society 4 years ago this October. My husband and I had joked that we were going to get a dog, name him Zipper and call him ZIpZip. The day we got Mr. Zipper we stopped at a produce stand on the way home. He leapt out of the car and took off running, it took my husband and 4 little boys about 20 mins to catch him. He was Zippy indeed. And so, the name stuck. (And hes less of a runner now, thank goodness.)

  59. We rescued Jazzy from our (then) local humane society. Her “humane society” name was Janice. Maybe subconsciously “Jazzy” stemmed from “Janice.” We visited her a couple of times before we decided to adopt her and began running through names that fit her personality. I love nicknames and sing-song names, so we tried out nicknames for each of the names we liked. “Jazzy-Spazzy” was the winner because she is such a nutcase. I thought “Jazzy” sounded happy, vivacious, bouncy, and fun, all things that fit her personality. We didn’t know then just how perfect her name would be. Everyone comments on it. Nailed it!

She’s currently basking in the sun on the patio, patrolling to make sure no dangers are lurking in the parking lot. I think she is also chewing on our dying tomato plant. Maybe that’s really why she’s out there and she’s just trying to make it look like she’s patrolling and being a proper dog.

Thanks for hosting this giveaway! November is my big shopping month at Anthropologie, and I’ll take any financial aid I can get!

  60. My cat’s name is Cleo. I think I remember naming her that because my sister was obsessed with Cleopatra when we were kids and I secretly thought everything my sister liked was automatically awesome. Ahhhh sibling relationships 🙂 Thanks for this giveaway!

  61. What a fun question to ask & a fun giveaway too! My dog’s name is Lily! She is a golden retriever puppy. We originally thought we would get a boy dog and had planned for years to name him Albus, after Dumbledore!

Low and behold, we fall in love with a girl dog and that name we had been saving for years went right out the window. We still wanted to keep the harry potter theme to our dog’s name, so we chose Lily after Lily Potter!

Didn’t realize Lily was such a popular dog name, and now we see dogs named Lily everywhere! Though I’m sure those Lily’s aren’t Harry Potter related. 🙂

  62. Almost missed it!! I have a betta fish and his name is Alexander McQueen! I loved Alexander McQueen and I was always so fascinated by his designs. And for some reason, over the years, I started associating the color red with him. Since my betta fish is a gorgeous shade of red and has glamorous fins, I decided to name him after late Alexander McQueen.
