Flit And Flare

IMG_9776.JPG

I bought this dress so long ago I cannot even recall its name. I have searched for it and I believe it was called Floral Fit And Flare from Free People. It is now sold out, but I actually think this dress they are selling now is so much prettier.

Am I the only one who cannot get enough of white or creamy lace? You would think that I am secretly wishing for a white wedding.

Maybe with this little guy. The moon necklace can be found on Etsy here. The pink necklace was an older Anthropologie find.

A similar sweet groom gnome can be found at this shop on Etsy.

My husband loves this dress. He likes any fit and flare dress and any pencil skirt. I like big flowy pieces, but I can appreciate his tastes, too.

Hey! Maybe we should get married?

IMG_9781.JPG

Let’s not worry about weddings. Let’s talk about footwear instead. Those awesome boots were a late season sale find from Anthropologie last year. I think these boots are very similar in looks.

Anyway a future wedding is out.

No renewal of the vows for me.

No ceremony.

Nada.

Why?

IMG_9779.JPG

I once went to a psychic who told me I would marry the same man three times.

Sounds lovely right?

Well, she also told me my expiration date. Which I am hoping is wrong. So I figure if I don’t remarry the same man, I can ignore the other part of the prediction, too.

IMG_9785.JPG

I recognize how crazy that sounds.

But, um, did you happen to notice I am a grown woman flitting through the “forrest” holding a felt gnome? It’s a miracle that I got married even one time.

Do you own a lot of fit and flare dresses? I think they are the best fit for all body types. Do you love white dresses? If you are married, what did you do with your wedding dress? Mine is hanging up in my closet. I used to take it out once a year and flit around the house in it.

But that scared the gnome.

And we can’t be having that.

  1. That gnome is too serious. He needs to lighten up.

The psychic needs to be fired. How can they go around spouting out crap like that?

I never had a wedding dress as we eloped. I actually borrowed my sister’s graduation dress.

I did buy a wedding dress…some 10 or more years after we were married. When I did trade shows all the time selling my scrapbooking products to stores one year I had a wedding line come out. I decided to attend the whole trade show dressed as bride and groom. So I got to go and buy this spectacular pouffy strapless gown and wear it for a week every single day all day! LOL It was a blast. Not so much fun going to the bathroom…but otherwise a real blast.

I kept it too. Figured one year I might wear it for Halloween.

    • That gnome does need to lighten up. I think he is bummed because he was designated to the car as a home as backup in case I forgot a gnome. I would be upset, too. Poor guy.

I love that you eloped. That is so exciting and romantic!

And I love that you got to wear a wedding dress for a whole week. So cool!

      Have a terrific Thursday!

  2. I’m a huge fan of fit and flare dresses! I think you can easily dress them up with a blazer without really “ruining” the feel of the dress. Also, it’s funny that you used to take out your wedding dress once a year to wear it around! I am not married but I always wonder how I will feel about spending so much money on one dress – that I will wear once and once only! I guess wearing it around the house is one option (:

    • Thank you Deniz. I want to wear a blazer with my new Otomi dress but I cannot find the blazer. I am wondering if I donated it. Wedding dresses are SO expensive now. I cannot imagine spending so much on a dress. I thought my dress was outrageous at $1000, but that seems to be nothing now. I think if I did it again I would just wear a white Free People Dress. They make some really nice ones!

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

  3. Such a cute dress! My husband and I are going to Las Vegas next month and we are thinking about renewing our vows. Of course I had to pick out a dress just in case 🙂

    • That is so exciting! Oh my goodness! I hope you do it. I have always wanted to do that. What does your dress look like? Is it white? Have FUN!

      And thank you! : )

      Sweet dreams!

  4. Of course I love this dress: it’s fit and flare in a cream lace. Doesn’t get much better than that in my book. Your styling here has actually given me an idea for styling my Emeline Tulle Skirt. I love the black tights and brown boots. They lend a casual, rustic romance to the dress. It’s very pretty without being cutesty. Definitely has a Nashville look to it.

What strange predictions from that psychic. I suppose refusing to fulfill one end of the prophecy means you can ignore the other bit. Growing up, I always had this fear I would die at 27. I don’t know where it came from, but it stuck with me. On my 28th birthday, I was so relieved. This was just this summer, mind you. So this isn’t some story from “back when” I was young, and crazy, and paranoid. Just currently young, crazy, and paranoid.

    • Ha! I am so glad that you got to end that fear. Unfortunately, I worry about her predictions. I asked her questions in my head (not out loud!) and she answered them. I thought how many kids would I have and she replied out loud I see a boy and a girl coming out of you. I asked about my future husband. She gave me his complete initials. So, I do worry that she could be right. I am still crazy and paranoid. : ). I love those words.

And thank you about the dress! I hope you do style it that way so I can see it and figure out the top since I own that dress, too.

      Have sweet dreams!

  5. Hey Jenni!

That dress and how you styled it is adorable on you!! =)
What a perfect outfit for Fall…Now only mother nature would remember what time of year it is!!!

It’s one of the dresses I kick myself for not purchasing…I had the navy blue one in my hand waiting to check out at the store and for some reason put it back 🙁
I think I thought I already had too many blue dresses but can you ever?!

By the way it is called the **Rose Garden** dress!

How lovely of a wedding dress would this be… http://www.freepeople.com/merries-white-victorian/ ♥♥♥

Also, I hope you do find your pink Hunter boots!!
I was thinking about your comment and wonder if we have different styles of boots perhaps…I’m not sure what the “style” is that Anthro carried last year?
But they are fantastic so I hope you can find them 🙂

Not sure if when I said the buckles rub on my boots it made sense!
I meant when I cross my legs when I am sitting, it’s sometimes irritating how they will rub!

I’m sure being too hot and sticky for a long period of time would make me angry and eventually depressed too 😉 Haha but no I don’t think too much sun generally would lead to that! WIshing for cooler Fall weather your way soon!!

Hope you and your family have a wonderful week :0) ♥

    • Thank you! I need to change the post to reflect that name! : ). I love the navy one. I remember I purchased mine for less than $50 at Nordstrom Rack. I did not see the navy one there, though. It was a long time ago.

And thank you about the boots. I hope I find them, too. I know what you mean about the buckle. I have a pair of boots that do that. It is irritating!

Have a super rest of the week!

  6. That is a very pretty dress. I am always attracted to color most of the time, so I don’t own a lot of white shades.
My wedding dress is still in its garment bag at my parent’s house. I really should just bring it home, especially to show my daughter. A blog post would be fun to do. All of us should do a blog post on our wedding dresses, showcasing the different styles.
I’m loving the fit and flare 50’s style dresses lately and keep my eyes peeled for vintage or new.
    Have a great day,
    Stacey

    • You should definitely get the dress to show your daughter. That is so fun. I regret not taking pictures of my daughter in my dress when she was little to have blown up at her wedding. I love that idea on Pinterest. And thank you about my dress! It is an easy one to grab when I am out of ideas.

      Sweet dreams!

  7. What a pretty dress! I can see why your hubby loves it. I like fit and flare, but I need to work on my stomach a bit more to wear them comfortably. I have to be careful on the fit..too high or too low on the waist and it is no bueno. My wedding dress is hanging in my closet. I always want to put it on on my anniversary to see if it still fits. I haven’t actually done it…since I usually was pregnant or freshly post-pardum. Maybe this year…
Hope you are having a great week. Hopefully a very rainy week!

    • Thank you Alicia! Have you seen the Pinterest idea where when your little girl is three or four you put her in your dress and then the picture gets blown up at her wedding. I love that idea so much. Even if you don’t blow up tue picture it would be cute to have for the big day. I wish I would have done that!

I wish it was a rainy week! Tomorrow is finally supposed to drop to the 80s though! So sweaters it is! ; )

      Sweet dreams!

  8. I do have a fair amount of fit and flare dresses. I love’em! My wedding dress was a fit n flare. I got to wear the dress in a play I was doing a few years ago and I wore it to a couple of events. It was a pale pink with an ivory lace overlay. I wanted to look like Sandy from Grease at her homecoming dance. It’s still hanging up in my closet.
That psychic is an idiot. I mean. Seriously.
Oh and I checked out that shop on Etsy – lunahoo – and am in love with her stuff. She has the cutest cat necklace!

    • Thank you Cynthia! : ). I forgot Lunahoo has cat stuff. Yay!

Your dress sounds so beautiful. I can completely picture it. I love that you got to wear it for a play. That is sweet. And that you still have it. I hope you get to wear it for another play.

I tried to see the psychic last year again after twenty years but she was booked. Now her phone is disconnected. Maybe I will never get closure.

Have a super rest of the week!

      Jenni

  9. That dress is so pretty. And the boots. The bows on the back are so pretty. Love.

My wedding dress is somewhere at my mom’s house. I suggested renewing our vows to my husband so I could buy another dress (ha). He shot me down pretty quickly.

    • Thank you Liana! I do love those bows. I have seen your dress. It is so gorgeous. I hope you get to visit it. : )

      Have a lovely Friday!

  10. Hi, I’ve just discovered your site via Fashion Should be Fun had it listed there, and I love it!! So fun, I’m looking forward to reading more. (I love Gnomes too, just in the last year or two, I find them hilarious. Your writing is great, will definitely be back for more.
    Cheers, Nancy (Stonecrop Sister)

    • That is so nice of you. Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! : ). I love that blog. Dawn is so sweet!

      Have a super weekend!

      Jenni

  11. Oh, I agree w/ ur hubbie, you look great in that fit & flare style! You look beautiful in that dress & I LUV how you styled it! I’m also in love w/ those boots, you know of my boot obsession! I’ve always known that the fit & flare is a good style, but I didn’t have any for yrs. Now, all of a sudden, I’ve found a bunch on sale, & I love them. The style is so complementary of big, birthing hips, & a belly that isn’t flat like it was before baring children! I’m so happy I rediscovered this fit! Sorry for the tangent, I didn’t mean to sound preachy bc you know I think you always look great in your style of long & flowy! I splurged yesterday on jane.com & purchased 2 long, flowy, layered chiffon maxi skirts. I think they’re pretty timeless & can be style casual or dressy! I even ventured out of my grey, don’t draw attention to myself, comfort zone & picked orange (it was stunning on the model, so bright & happy) & white w/ big, black polka dots! I’d forgot ton until just now, but maybe similar to your long skirt I love!

    Have a happy day friend!
    :)rebecca
