Winner Of The 18th Blog Giveaway and Cravings

Congratulations to Impracticalinnorth for winning the gift card to Nordstrom Rack! I hope you get something good! : ) Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway! You have me so excited for fall with the things you are looking forward to wearing. It has been in the 100s here in my neck of the woods and it is hard to see ahead to cooler weather. But I am trying…

I am on a clothing shopping ban for September (and since I had unexpected expenses arise, October’s clothing budget is looking bleak as well). This is okay, because quite honestly, I have enough clothes. And it is so much fun pulling out items I have stashed away for this changing weather. This, of course, does not mean that there are not items I am drooling over and waiting patiently for sale on:

H&M’s Short Dress. I love the blank canvas of this dress. The mustard color is rad. The price is great. So many patterned tights would look fantastic with it. I also think the shape would look good on a variety of body types.

I all ready have this Free People’s Shadow Hacci Top in grey. It is one of my favorite tops (a sneak peak of it styled can be found in this post). It layers over slips and fun bras beautifully. Over long maxi skirts, jeans and leggings. I want it in navy, too. It is great. Beware, it snags easily. I typically wear a small in Free People and a medium in most other brands. I tried both the small and the medium in the grey color and kept the medium for a looser fit.

I am in desperate need of some black boots. My other black boots are going on twelve years old. They are a size nine. I wear a seven and a half. Needless to say, they do not get worn. I see a donation in their future. I am really picky about black boots. I want a small heel made of brown wood and a rounded toe. I am leaning towards these Frye boots at an incredible sale price in most sizes (there is also a wide calf version here).

I also love the Dolce Vita Amoux Boots at Anthropologie. Of course they are all sold out, but they are my favorite.

I think the best thing on Anthropologie’s site right now is the Ruffle-back Sweater Dress (besides this dress I own and this vest I drool over in grey). It looks beautiful online. I cannot wait to see it in real life.

For the home, I will be watching these pillows until they hit sale.

Edited on 9/30/2014: I removed a craving due to an experience with customer service. Thank you for your understanding. : )

What are you craving this month? Besides rich chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream oozing over the top, melting faster than you can scoop it and bring it to your mouth. Or is that just me? Ahem.

  1. What a fun post!! I have those Frye’s, but in the redwood, and I LOVE them. I didn’t know there was black available! I love that blanket scarf too, oh my goodness!

    • Thank you Kristen! That is so good to know about the boots! I am happy to hear that! I have one pair of Frye’s. I love them! : )

      Have a super Friday!

  2. Hi Jenni, I hope you’re having a great day. What a great list of “wants.” I just wanted to give you some info on the H&M dress. I was in the mall today, (picking up “The girl who circumnavigated fairyland…” Yay!!), when I walked by H&M and thought about the yellow dress. I located it easily and tried it on. First, the color leans much, much more brown than mustard. I would say it’s more ochre. In the mirror, my first reaction was “Meh!” It just didn’t really DO anything for me. But I kept it on for awhile and thought about belting, and layering and other things I might do with it…so I figured for the price I would get it, bring it home, try some accessorizing and then if I still felt “Meh” I’d just return it. Well, at home I tried lots of tights, lots of boots, belts, cardigans, scarves, necklaces and hats and I absolutely loved every single combination. So bottom line I’m so happy I got it. Thank you for pointing it out. I hardly ever pop into H&M. I’m sure it will last through your September shopping ban and I can’t wait to see how you style it.

    • Yay! Thank you so much for letting me know and for the information on the dress! I am hoping they still have it at my store in October. Your review of it is so helpful. I am glad it worked out for you! And “The Girl Who Circumvented Fairyland”! I am so excited. I found the first thirty pages hard to get through, but then it got really good! You made my night reading your comment! Thank you so much!

      Have a fun Friday!

  3. I think a shopping slow down sounds good. I say slow down in case something affordable and special comes up. But I’m with you. I have enough stuff and find it sad as some clothes get shoved deeper into the closet, with the new items taking center stage. The buried clothes are loved too but at times get forgotten. I want to make sure that I wear all the clothes that I pursued and purchased in the last couple of years.
I look forward to seeing some of your older clothes,
    Stacey

    • I spent my September budget in August when every single thing I wanted hit sale. So, now I have to wait until October to have a budget again. : ). I just wore a dress today that I had not worn in a year and a half. Finding clothes to wear from my closet is crazy fun. I honestly have not missed shopping. I have loved shopping my closet. I agree with you that finding stuff we have not worn in awhile is wonderful!

      Have sweet dreams!

  4. I love all your picks. The short dress looks very mod and versatile, and I adore Frye boots.

You should check out this visual essay: http://issuu.com/sarahlazarovic/docs/notshopping/1 It’s written/illustrated by a Canadian woman who didn’t buy things for a year. It’s called “A bunch of pretty things I did not buy.”

(I hope it is ok that I linked it here; you can also google it by her name “Sarah lazarovic” if you don’t want to click on a link blindly).

  5. Ohhhhh…. now I am craving chocolate cake! I am also still lusting after that crazy Lavendel dress! I do like the ruffle back sweater dress but I wish it was a few inches longer. Although I bet it would look great with tights and boots.

    • I bet you will get that dress on sale! I would love someone to review the ruffle back dress. I am surprised nobody has yet.

      Have a terrific Tuesday!

      Jenni
