Our New Coffee Table

When we were at the Rose Bowl Flea Market a month ago, we purchased a new coffee table/ottoman from the booth of the Los Angeles based store, Uber Chic Home. They have an amazing set-up each time I am at the flea market and it seems they always have something new and crave-able that I want to purchase. In fact, I have never gone to this flea market and not purchased something from them.

All of the grain-sack pillows I have made in our home are from their booth. We also recovered our piano bench in one of their feed bags.

Now they are creating furniture. We fell in love with their coffee table/ottomans. The one we picked out was covered with a vintage Czech army blanket. It is soft and I like the interesting striped pattern that matches the lamp shade that we purchased a few years ago from Pottery Barn.

The piece boasts two large drawers that are actually vintage food crates. With my two children now both in junior high school and high school, we have a copious amount of books to store at home. These drawers actually hold all of their books and then some. And by “and then some,” I mean I still have half of the storage room left for other things.

Even Murphy loves the new coffee table. Although he is so short, he can almost not quite see over it.

The colors match the room perfectly. I have many custom slipcovers for my couch, but I have not changed the cover in years. This fall and winter, I plan to put on my grey velvet. I am hopeful it will work well with it.

Our old coffee table was from my first apartment before I met my husband. It matched the side table on the right. It had a glass top and when my son was one, he flipped over the couch backwards and knocked his head on the coffee table, requiring us to get him staples on the cut. I was glad to be rid of the thing. It only took us an extra ten years.

Speaking of side tables, we also acquired the small little one on the left of the couch (not from the seller above) on the same day as our new coffee table. I do not know its function before we purchased it, but we use it to store video game remotes.

I am pretty confident with saying that that was probably not its original purpose. Please excuse the mess. This is just what it looks like everyday. It was the cousin of the ones my husband truly wanted that were sold while we deliberated over them. The twin cousins had two drawers apiece and were slightly taller. We are happy to have grabbed the one we did. He was incredibly inexpensive.

Because I dislike change, it took a lot for me to finally make the decision to splurge on a new piece. We got a fantastic price for the beautiful item and we are extremely happy to have made the choice that we did. Now I just need to make the choice to get the carpets cleaned.

What was the last piece of furniture you purchased for your home? Was it vintage? Do you love it?

I do not know what to call our coffee table/ottoman. Two parts of it are made from vintage pieces, but the base is new. I will just call it pretty as I put my feet up on it and indulge in some wine.

  1. Love it – what a great piece! I so much prefer secondhand / remade furniture instead of new. I have been scoping out shops by me that do this as well, and there are so many inspiring shows on TV or online. People are so creative!

    • Thank you Heather. People are creative. I am not those people. You are, though. You are so creative with your jewelry! I do like finding things other people have made., though. : )

      Have a gorgeous week!

  2. We bought a buffet hutch for my husband’s office at an estate sale about 3 months ago. We have been working on redecorating his office. I’m still looking for the perfect 1960’s round chair to finish it off, but so far it is looking so much better than it did in the past. We also put down new flooring and repainted it. I need to take photos.

Your house is really “you”. A museum of Jenni : )

    bisous
    Suzanne

    • Thank you Suzanne! : ). I like it. A museum of Jenni. Just don’t tell my husband. I let him think most of the ideas are his. ; ). He loves color, too. Please take pictures of the office. I am in love with your living room with that gorgeous couch and magnificent art. I would love to see more of your home!

      Sweet dreams!

  3. This is fantastic and I LOVE it!! Works so well in your living room and the storage space is a super nice feature. Probably the last piece of furniture we purchased was a couch for our family room a few years ago. Took us forever to find something we liked, fit the room, and was comfortable.
    Happy Monday!

    • Thank you Barbara! Couches are the hardest things to pick, I think. They are the biggest thing in the room and often the most expensive. I bought are couch fourteen years ago and it really needs some help, but I am paralyzed with fear of making a bad choice. I get why it took you a long time. It is a tough decision!

      Happy Tuesday! : )

  4. OOOHHHH, love that ottoman/coffee table! It’s perfect & pretty! Half of our furniture is antique or vintage as well! It fits my shabby chic decor perfectly. That side table is great too! Good furniture day there for you.

    • Thank you so much Rebecca. Both pieces were so much fun to find. I am glad you like them! I like your shabby chic decor. Vintage pieces are the best to shop for because you not only get a piece of furniture but also a history of stories as well.

      Have a terrific Tuesday!

  5. Your house looks so nice and cozy. The coffee table fits in so nicely with the house and the dogs seem to like it!
I love vintage furniture but I think the last item we bought about three or four years ago was one loveseat in a light blue from Macys. I think it was in the Chloe collection. We bought one because I have two vintage chairs that sit opposite from the loveseat. I have been meaning to have the chairs reupholstered and I think I better get to it since it’s been so long now.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Stacey

    • Thank you Stacey! If you get the chairs recovered will you post pictures? I love to look at stuff like that! I love blue sofas. They are beautiful.

      Have a wonderful week!

  6. Call it Jaroslav? Since it’s made from a Czech blanket? Also, hello! It’s been a while! I LOVE the idea of a coffee table you can also sit on, it is so cute, and so ingenious! (Also, Ollie peeking over the table… too adorable. First, Liz instagrams a picture of Jazzy rolling around on her back, and now this… you people and your adorable dogs!)
As for Victor and me, we literally yesterday splurged on a sideboard from West Elm that I’ve been drooling over for a couple of years now – the Dumont sideboard, which is basically like Midcentury Scandinavian furniture only somehow even sexier. We almost don’t own any furniture, so this is a big step! And funnily enough, we were also deliberating over a West Elm coffee table that opens up into a storage unit… a little bit like your new coffee table! Funny, eh? We didn’t get it though – we need to settle on a sofa and chair first, then see what we have space for…)

    • Hi girl! I miss you! Jazzy is so cute. I will have to look up that West Elm piece. I love West Elm. Our bedroom curtains are from there. Funny enough, the first time we placed the order instead of curtains they sent us a pink desk lamp instead. Thankfully it eventually all worked out, but it took months. I cannot wait to see your dining room table and colorful chairs! I am so excited about those!

      Have a gorgeous week!

  7. Please tell your husband I am not a creeper but I totally want to visit you. I love seeing pictures of you in your home. Just feels like a friend.

    • Ha! Any time you are in California you can visit me. : ). And you are my friend, maybe that is why it feels like it! Of course now the room is covered in laundry that needs to be sorted and out away. I hate laundry. I do not mind other chores but laundry is the worst.

      Have a lovely week!

  8. gads…..I just love your new coffee table!!! holy cow I want to check them out now……and your house is just delicious….like something off the pages of a magazine!

    • Thank you Melody! I love the word delicious…so sweet! ; ). You should definitely go to that flea market. You would love it. There are so many treasures. I cannot wait to go back again.

      Have a fun week!

  9. The babies look adorable with your new pieces. I like how Ollie snuck into one of the other pictures too. You have a beautiful home.

    • Thank you! I appreciate that. : ). I try to make it fun. Ollie is so funny that way. He is always lurking waiting for love or food. Not necessarily in that order. Although tonight it was love he wanted.

      Have a happy week!

  10. What a great find! I love your house! Every time you show pictures I want to come live in it. You have such an artistic decorating sense. I would call your style shabby chic meets southwestern – but really – it is so completely you!

    • You are so sweet. Thank you! I love the way you described out house. My husband’s house before we met was decorated entirely in Southwest so I definitely try to incorporate his style in subtle ways. Thank you for noticing that!

Have a wonderful Wednesday! I am so tired and I still have to go get up and make school lunches. Yawn.

  11. Your home looks so cozy. I’m french and I find it sad that we (french) don’t use carpets (carpet flooring?) like you guys do. It brings in so much more warmth to the house. Besides, your coffee table does look very nice. A house full of colours, I love it.

    • I really, really appreciate that. Thank you! I like the carpet, but we need to get it cleaned every three months. The last guy did not do a good job, so now I need to find a new carpet cleaner. Sometimes I wish we had the ease of all tile or wood floor. Thank you again! : )

      Have a wonderful weekend!
