Gothic Lace Cowgirl

I am breaking so many of my boundaries in these pictures.

Wait. Do you break boundaries or cross them?

Whichever it was, all at once, I found them tossed to the wind.

1. Never be photographed in sleeveless.

2. Never wear all dark colors.

3. Never wear braids in the wind.

I layered my two Anthropologie Scalloped Monogram Bracelets with my husband and my initials.

And they were the only pieces of jewelry I wore that day.

The gnome doesn’t count, right?

I just had to break my own silly rules when I found this cute Free People Dear Bridgette Lace Top at Nordstrom Rack (I cannot find it online but I found a similar shirt here). It was a steal. I all ready had the skirt (similar here) from early 2013 and the lace maxi slip underneath the whole outfit was a fabulous deal at NR last summer for around $30.

The reason I had only worn bracelets on this day was because I decided to wear one of my fabric flowers I had purchased from a sweet seller at Pike’s Market in Seattle last year.

By the way, do you see why I have no back shots of this outfit? I forgot to have my husband button the back of my shirt!

Aw, well, you break some rules and everything just falls apart.

I had mentioned in a post last week that I never wear black, because I think it is hard to make it look cheerful. But this outfit made me happy that day.

I am branching out.

Kicking my heels up, so to speak.

Or boots, as it were.

Do you have any silly fashion rules? Have you ever broken them? Have you ever spent the whole day with your shirt or dress completely unbuttoned?

Yea, me neither.

    • Thank you Rachel! I appreciate that! : ). Laying in bed and watching “Night At The Museum” until midnight. Is there a rule against that? ; )

      Have a happy Wednesday!

  1. Hi Jenni. I love this outfit. It looks stunning! I certainly do have all kinds of fashion rules, but I’m trying to break out of my box a bit. I tend to not dress boho head to toe. I’ll maybe wear a peasant blouse with jeans and boots (and of course lots of jewelry!). But lately I’ve really been inspired by all your lovely outfit photos, and I’m trying to step out of my comfort zone a bit. Did you ever feel self-conscious as you were developing your style? I think part of my problem is living in the north where long winters and crazy weather call for practical clothes more than pretty. But I’ve decided that life is too short, and if I feel like wearing long, lacy skirts and loads of jewelry I’m going to do it(even if I stand out a bit in a crowd!) That’s not necessarily a bad thing, right?

    • Thank you Kerry! I definitely feel self conscience, but at the same time it is so much fun to experiment. I would rather look slightly odd than the same as everyone else. Long, lacy skirts are the best! : ). I went so many years wearing what I did not like that two years ago when I finally felt comfortable in my skin, it felt like I became a whole new person. I dressed happier, because I was happier. But I definitely have moments where I think, I can’t wear that! But then I do and it all turns out all right. : )

I really really appreciate what you said and if you ever feel out of place, please know that further south is a girl who is loving what you are wearing. : )

      Have a terrific week!

  2. goth lace cowgirl really is the perfect name for this outfit. It’s such a cute look! I wish I could pull off boho this well – I feel like I always just end up looking like I’m wearing too much fabric but you look so chic. And I love that you forgot to button the back of the top – it happens!

    • Thank you Ashley. I definitely think you could do boho. In fact I thought your outfit today was bohemian. It was beautiful. I forgot to button my dress on Tuesday. I cannot go anywhere. : )

      Have a happy Friday!

    • Thank you Cynthia! I think that was the Chubby Stick Richer Raisin. It does not look bright enough to be the raspberry one, but it might be. I always wear one or the other. It is which ever one I dig out from the depths of my purse first. : )

      Have a lovely Friday!

  3. You are so pretty! You do realise that, right? Don’t worry about going sleeveless, it looks great on you! You look like a bohemian cowboy princess. That flower is gorgeous, too – it’s like the perfect topper on your gorgeous aubergine lace cake. (Hm, now there’s a sentence. It’s late over here. But you know what I mean!)
As for fashion rules, I used to think all stripes made me look huge, so I’d never wear stripes – believe it or not! Hm, currently the only “rule” I can think of is a sensible one, “pick your poison” – as in, if I’m wearing a huge necklace, I won’t also wear huge earrings, etc. It’s one or the other. Oh, and boundaries are to be hopped over. Like a bunny!

    • Ha! Thank you but it must be the lighting or the angle. : ). Some of my friends want to hire my husband to take pictures of them. I love aubergine lace cake topper. What a pretty description. I love you in stripes! I so agree with your accessory rule. I think it is one of the biggest mistakes women make. Of course, this is coming from someone who frequently leaves the house unbuttoned, so I am not one to talk. And I will gladly hop over boundaries. Great visual!

      Have a sweet Saturday!

      Jenni

  4. You look amazing. I love this outfit and love seeing you in something different that’s still got echoes of your usual style. (Does that make any sense?)

    • Thank you Liana. It is definitely still my style. But just a bit different. I have to figure out how and what to dress like for a rock concert coming up in a few months. I am so excited!

      Have a cheerful weekend!

      Jenni
