Ginette Callaway: Landscapes

I love art. I like my walls to be crammed full of pretty things to look at. It is important to me. I think a home should be filled with the essence of the people who reside there. It should shout or whisper whatever emotion you are trying to convey. I hope our house screams, “FUN!”

Besides my children’s paintings, I have more paintings by Ginette Callaway than anyone else in my home. I love her impressionistic style and the bright colors that she uses. I have been collecting her art for well over ten years. Last time I shared my bird paintings by her on this blog, including the peacock painting often seen in my outfit posts.

This time I wanted to share some of my landscapes by Ginette.

First there is this beautiful fishing village painting. I love the size of it. I am currently rearranging the art in my house. This is how the art is arranged above our bookcases in our living room right now. She also painted the butterfly on the left.

There is my incredibly fun painting by Ginette of an underwater fish scene.

Miniature paintings are my favorite. This little guy is small and pretty. It depicts a small home in the Bahamas. Man, I would love to go there right now!

And this painting is even smaller. I told you, I love small paintings. This is a lovely quaint city scene.

You can find Ginette Callaway on her website. And she sells her art on her Etsy store.

Do you have art in your home? What is your favorite item on your walls? What would you want your home to say about you?

  1. With all of your lovely gallery walls do you hang the pieces with nails or removable tape?

Our house is filled with art I’ve made, which I need to update now since it is all so old, paintings by friends or pieces handed down from family. Worst of all is I have a 5′ painting in my living room that is unfinished of my husband. I really need to start painting again and finish it. It is a metaphor of my professional and creative life.

Your house is very much like walking into a Anthropologie store. Like a museum.

    • I use nails. We had the walls painted last year, but before that, you should have seen the walls behind those paintings! I am sure it will look like that again soon. We are always moving things around. Yes! Finish that painting of your husband. It will be so awesome when it is done. Oh my gosh! I am so excited. This is one of the coolest things I have heard in a long while. I just know you will finish it! : )

      Have a creative Monday!

  2. I love buying small art pieces on Etsy but here is the dilemma – framing can be so expensive! Do you have any secrets on keeping the costs down? Really enjoy your blog. 🙂

    • Hi Jennifer! Framing can be more expensive than art! I did a post way back in November about framing cheaper http://gnomelover.com/2013/11/18/how-to-get-your-framing-done-cheap-er/. In our town we used to have the best small framing shop and that was the best deal. I recommend shopping around. I store up all of my art to frame until Michael’s does a 60% + 20% coupon. They will also put a back on any frame (can be tabletop) and frame it professionally in it so it is easy to hang. That is usually just around $6 to get done. I mix those types of frames with professionally done ones. On Black Friday, Michaels did a buy one get two free deal on their wall frames. I stocked up then. I would definitely look for deals in November this year. I hope this helps!

And thank you for the compliment. I really appreciate it. : )

      Have a lovely week!

  3. I love her work, and I have a few pieces on my wishlist, actually.

I’m a little addicted to buying art from new artists especially, and slightly quirky art, in particular. I’m the art gallery coordinator at work so I wind up buying things through those artists lots, and also things from etsy or gallery nucleus.

I just bought this incredible circus girl snake tamer painting:

And I want this one SO bad, but I don’t have the budget for it right now:

Art is awesome because it can be passed down for generations, or potentially tossed out by future lameo descendants. Either way, it’s kind of a romantic concept.
I have a beloved one-of-kind embroidery art piece of Sam The Eagle from the muppets, and I can just picture a great great grandchild thinking “What the hell is this freak thing?!?” before tossing it in a dumpster, and me sobbing from Heaven (fingers crossed?) “Nooooo! Not Saaaaam!”

    • I LOVE that circus girl painting! I would definitely have purchased that. It is amazing! I love Linda Kim’s art, too. The one you listed is gorgeous. I actually purchased the original of this print http://blog.theworkingproof.com/2012/03/linda-kim-beneath-trees.html from her on Gallery Nucleus a few years back. We definitely have the same taste in art. : ). I love embroidery pieces. I just picked up a crazy one at the flea market last week. Your Sam The Eagle one sounds awesome! I am sure your descendants will think so, too. : )

      Have a super week!

  4. All of your art is so lovely! So neat that you have so much original art in your home, & that your kiddos are talented artists as well!

I need to catch up reading your blog from the past couple of weeks since we were gone. I’m trying to get all my vacation blog posts completed today, I haven’t had time since we’ve been back & I like to post each day separately, that’s what I’ve always done. Persnickety I know, but that’s how I am with certain things! 🙂

Hope you’re doing well & I’ll catch up on your blog soon!
    Rebecca

    • Thank you Rebecca! I cannot wait to read about your vacation! I will head over there in the morning. I am excited! : ). I hope you had a great time. And I think it is important to do things exactly how you want it.

I am glad you are back! Have a happy Monday!

  5. I just love all of the art in your house – especially that peacock! We love buying art when we can too. I feel so lucky to have met so many wonderful artists over the years. I just got a new piece in the mail yesterday, from a gal I met at a show here in Michigan last year. Since she is from my native Wisconsin, I love supporting her. I got a loon painting to remind me of my childhood summer vacations in Northern Wisconsin. I think you would really like her work too – it is colorful and eclectic. And the texture on it…. I don’t know how she does it but it is really cool! http://melissabelanger.blogspot.com/

    • Thank you Heather! Did you get the loon rider painting? It is really cool! I love her art. Art is so much fun. I think it is such a great way to express yourself. I hope we get to see your painting in your home. I love looking at art pieces!

      Have a terrific Monday!

  6. I love that you have a favourite artist and that you are sharing her work. how did you find her? Just browsing through Etsy?

Your house says “fun” but it is also really warm and inviting and the artwork you’ve chosen is totally comforting. A very nice environment. My house has a lot of my paintings and a few bought pieces, but I’ll admit you’ve inspired me to invest more in other people’s work and also to keep creating.

Angie from reasons to dress, fashion, real mom street style & life as a North American mom in Italy.

    • Thank you Angie! Ack! I just realized that I never emailed you! I am so sorry. That was such a crazy time with us gone. I will definitely work on that tomorrow! I appreciate your sweet words. I love that you have a lot of paintings that you did yourself. I wish I had that talent. Alas, I did not get that skill.

I wish you a creative and fun week!

      Jenni

  7. Very beautiful work. I love the vibrant colors. Once again, I feel inspired to work on my house. It want it to seem welcoming not boring! You do a great job with all your art.

    • Thank you Alicia! Your house is not boring! It is filled with laughter and fun! Miss Macy brightens every room with her adorable smile. When my kids were little, I did not decorate. There just was never time. I remember we had just gotten our couch and my one year daughter got sick while she was sitting on it and I caught the sickness in my hands and down the front of my shirt to avoid getting the couch dirty. That was the extent of my decorating. : )

      Have a great week!

      Jenni

    • Thank you Cynthia. I love that little painting, too.

That Contortionist painting is really cool. What a neat piece to look at. I wish I could do that. I was always impressed with myself that I could bring my feet above my head but then I went on a girl’s trip and my friends could all bend more than me. I now realize I am pretty inflexible.

      Have sweet dreams tonight!

      Jenni

  8. Oh my gosh, I just saw this today. I am so thrilled. Jenni You are a sweetheart for sure. you know i haven’t seen these painting sin a long long time. I almost got a bit teary eyed remembering when I painted these. You have made my day!!! BIGTIME! I have a new website too for my original art. ginettecallaway.com

    • Oh good! I am so glad that you saw that post! Some of those are a long time ago, right? We enjoy them so much in our home. I will be doing all of our florals by you soon. I think we own over twenty five of your paintings! And we love them all! I will go back tomorrow and edit that post with your new information. : )

      Have a gorgeous week!

      Jenni

      • WOW time flies. I come and see your blog regularly and am always amazed at your creativity within your blog posts. You’re a natural. Thanks for the posts of my art, they are much appreciated. I am going to post a blogpost on my new web site to your blog as well.

It’s been so long, I have to admit I don’t know exactly how many paintings you bought over time. 20 sounds about right in that neighborhood.

I think you and about 3 other collectors have that many paintings. You were one of the first to buy from me when I first started in 1999. You are very dear to me!

        Take care you lovely human!

      • You are so lovely, Ginette. Thank you so much for this comment. You truly brightened my day. Thank you. I was just telling my husband that I love your art just as much today as I did ten years ago. Each piece makes me smile. It brightens our house and enriches our lives. It was a great day that I bought my first piece all of those many years ago. : ). Those colors in that small lavender painting inspired me to add more color to the house.

        Have a fabulous Friday!

        Jenni

  9. Good morning Jenni,

Oh my, yes that lavender painting if I remember correctly it’s a 7 x 5 inch little gem.

I’m glad it inspired you to add more colors in your home. Your walls are practically an art gallery and well put together. Unique, individualistic and soulful that is what your house is.

I got an early start today Friday. Much to do. Starting a new small commission for a client from Georgia. She wanted an autumn painting. Can you believe it is autumn again. I LOVE that season. Have a happy weekend.

    Ginette

    • Thank you Ginette! That painting is so sweet! It is actually 4 X 6. When I went to get it framed the sweet framer made the frame for free to see if he could make a frame that size. I loved that frame shop. They went out of business many years ago but they were nice.

How fun for an autumn painting! I cannot believe that it is fall all ready! It is so hot here!

      Have a fun week!

      Jenni
