Crochet In An Orchard

Orange you glad I didn’t do a punny title?

It was hard.

So crorchard.

When I purchased this skirt (slightly similar skirt here) at Anthropologie in 2012, I loved it. But I only wore it once, because it is a tricky skirt to wear. The waist screams for a belt, and the dividing line down the middle is distracting.

Nonetheless, I loved it.

I finally found a top that I think works with this skirt. It is from Forever 21. It is $20. You really can’t beat that. I just bought my top a few weeks ago and I cannot find it online now. I bought mine in a store so they may still have one near you, if you like it. I did found a slightly similar top for the same price here.

The House of Harlow necklace was a steal at Nordstrom Rack and the gold cuff was less than $6 at Forever 21.

And this is why I like to hold on to things in my closet. Because I knew one day this skirt would find its match.

Much like myself and this tree.

So, do you hold on to your clothes even if you have not worn the item in over a year? And what else would you suggest pairing with this skirt? I am re-loving it again. I also have it in blue. Because it was a steal, I tell ya. A steal. Any suggestions for the blue? That one is even crorcharder to style. I am thinking my Daydrifter tee. What do you think?

*The affiliate links in this post go to a slightly similar skirt and shirt above. I could not find an exact match, so if you like the Doily Skirt, I would also check eBay.

* I shared this on The Pleated Poppy!

  1. Jenni! You are such a beauty in these pics, actually all of your pics! I am loving the outdoor photos too. I know you changed it up awhile ago and I am just now commenting on it, but the outdoor pics have been amazing! Your photographer is top notch;)

    • Aw, thank you Amy! It has been interesting trying to find new places around town for new photos. I keep telling my husband he should pursue photography more. I cannot even take food pictures well. He will come in and it will be amazing. Of course, he is rarely home when I am doing the food pictures, I need him to do those, too. : )

Thank you again! I miss you!

Hope you are having an amazing weekend!

  2. What a great outfit! I’d love to see the blue combo you come up with too. That belt is so great! I too, save pieces for years and year. I am sure people think I just shop non-stop because you rarely see me in something twice, but it’s really because I have been hoarding things!

    • Thank you Heather! I have clothes from ten years ago. I am of the same mind as you. It is always better to keep it so you can reuse it later on. I took three pieces to Maui that were all six or seven years old.

I am a fellow happy hoarder!

      Have a great Sunday!

  3. oh my gosh, you are so beautiful! wow! you really do look amazing! love your very pretty outfit and your location is superb!

  4. Oh Jenni ~~ I am loving your outdoor outfit shots. They are such eye-candy. My favorite pose in this post is the second one but the others are all a close second. Are you getting more comfortable having outdoor pictures taken?

And, oh yes…I certainly keep things for way over a year even if I haven’t worn them. Because you are correct, you never know when you are going to find the right thing to wear it with.

    Brynne

    • Thank you so much Brynne! I am getting more comfortable, but I cringe inwardly and outwardly (which makes for awful pictures) when someone is nearby. I feel so self conscience. I have some beach photos coming up and those were really hard for me. There were people on the beach and I wanted to crawl into a hole like my fellow crabs on the beach.

I am so glad you shared about your clothes. So many of my friends just get rid of things and I feel silly that I always hang on if I still even like it a little bit.

      Have a terrific Sunday! : )

  5. I love that skirt. It is so pretty, especially paired with the soft pink. Any type of chambray would look so cute with the skirt as well. A button down, or even a tee would work. I love it with the belt though, it really creates a nice line.

I have 3 different sets of wardrobes in my house. Maternity, non- maternity (reg size) and transitions. SO, lots of clothes. My maternity clothes are all packed away, but I still have a large variety of sizes out from right after baby till this last 10 lbs….and than some smaller stuff that I wore in college and just LOVE and vie to fit back into them.

So, you are not alone in keeping clothes.

    • Thank you Alicia. I cannot wait to try the chambray. I was going to wear it on our date night last night, but could not find it in time for our grumbling tummies. I just slipped on a dress instead.

I need to start packing stuff away. I just keep it all out. It is a mess and quite overwhelming. I am in the process of organizing but then something else always ends up coming up. And I have to get my kids’ closets and drawers done first. I need to donate clothes outgrown and get that together!

      Have a beautiful week!

  6. I can see why you loved this skirt. I am very much like you in that I hang onto everything. I think you have to if you shop thrift and vintage. You need to know that you are amassing a collection and that eventually you will find the perfect moment or perfect accessory to wear with the piece. I just bought a 1950’s Marilyn Monroe black sequinned dress and although I don’t have anywhere to wear it yet, I know the occasion will present itself. I just need make sure I don’t gain an ounce in-between now and then : )

I love the whole outfit…especially the gnome in the belt trick!

Did you buy anything at the big Anthro tag sale? Please dish! So far I haven’t. It is in the back of my mind though and I’m trying everything to stay strong. I am in love with some of the sandals but can’t bring myself to pay the crazy shipping, customs and duty that is attached to each order. Well so far at least ; ) I feel my will is weakening…

    bisous
    Suzanne

    • Thank you Suzanne! I agree. Especially with vintage. You will never ever be able to find it again if you let it go. That Marilyn Monroe dress sounds amazing. I know you will definitely find somewhere to wear it. I cannot wait to see it. I have nothing cool like that.

I had been being so good and had not purchased anything, but I did purchase a few things during the tag sale. The number one thing I wanted has not shipped yet and is now sold out. It is the Vineet Bahl Vine Beaded Maxi. I had been waiting for it to hit sale and was so excited that it did. I will be really sad if it does not ship. I also bought a leather travel bag that was over 80% off on a popback. That one also has not shipped so I am thinking it will get cancelled. I purchased the blue and white vest that I had loved from a few weeks ago for $30.

I want the sandals, too, but I am hoping to get some on crazy popback prices at the end of the season. Fingers crossed! And I hope you get some, too!

I tried on so many cool things today and had to be good and buy nothing. I know they will hit sale eventually. And I all ready purchased the above items.

      Being good sucks!

Have a fabulous rest of the weekend!

  7. The skirt looks so nice with the blouse that I thought it was a dress at first. These are great photos and I love the orange orchard theme.
I’m a collector of clothes so I keep most things. The stuff that gets donated are the items that were impulse buys from cheaper stores. That is why I have been trying to be careful in stores like Marshalls for example. The other day I found a green silk 50’s style dress there and thought it looked like Anthro or ModCloth. When I looked at the tag, I saw that it was Marc Jacobs. I assumed it would be a decent price but even on clearance it was $70 and had a hole in the back. I keep thinking about it, but for $70 I really need to love it. I’m assuming that the store would only take 10% off because of the hole so it’s not worth it.
I love the Gnome and think you should turn one into a pin for a top or belt. Cute idea!
    Stacey

    • Thank you Stacey. I am so with you on the cheap items. I do end up donating most of the items I buy that are cheap and trendy. Although, the last few pieces I have purchased from Forever 21 makes me think that I will keep those for a long while. I really like them.

I like your idea for turning one into something, but then I imagine them all sad because they have something through them. Then this makes me question my sanity. Again. ; )

Thank you for your kind words!

      Have a lovely Sunday!

  8. That’s such a pretty, classically lovely outfit!! Great styling! I do hold onto things I love a lot too, even if I have a hard time styling parts of it. Pretty orchard too!

Glad you were calmed by my horseback riding when your kiddos went. I love riding horses, but don’t get to often. In fact, I think before Mexico it may have been in 2001! Too long in my mind. My hubbie does not like to ride & hasn’t ever w/ me. The kiddos have been on many pony rides though. I think the beach ride was Grace’s first “trail” ride, ie not a pony circle type ride.

I do hope to visit the Caribbean, Bahamas, & Hawaii! I really, really want to go to Bermuda too! I guess it’s safe to say I love to travel & so does my family! :). It’s just the best to visit, discover, & make memories in new or favorite places! We are blessed to usually take A big trip/vacation once a year, & sometimes even a few little trips. In fact, we usually visit San Diego every year or two, maybe next yr we can meet up?! Growing up in AZ, San Diego has always been a favorite, much visited location for my family & my husbands’ too.

    Happy weekend!
    🙂 rebecca

    • Thank you Rebecca! Yes, we should definitely meet up. San Diego is beautiful. We live about an hour away from it. And my husband works there. I am always jealous of the things he gets to eat for lunch.

I have a hard time styling stuff sometimes, too. In fact, I have so many outfits that are so bad I never posted them, I have thought of doing a funny post about them. One of them is cringeworthy! I just need a hat with tropical fruit for it and it would be complete!

Thank you again! : ). My kiddos got home today and I have spent the day washing drying and putting away their clothes, making dinner, going to the grocery store and now it is finally “me” time! Aaahhhhh.

      Have a great weekend!

  9. You look great as usual and with TWO accessories. I have been admiring the House of Harlow star jewelry. Good job finding a piece on sale!

I like to keep pieces also, expecially if it is something I really like. It’s fun to find something new or new to you that matches something you have had for a while. When you choose classic pieces with a twist like you do, they stay in style for a long time.

I liked your road to Hana post too. I thought it was fun.

    • Thank you! This two accessory thing is hard. I wore two today and ended up taking one off halfway through the day. My brain just could not take it. So weird!

I agree. It is so fun to rediscover an older piece. It is frugal and just makes me happy because it usually also carries happy memories.

And thank you about the Hana post. I wrote it yesterday and was unsure about it but my husband convinced me to post it.

      Have a terrific Sunday!

      Jenni

    • Thank you so much Dawn! : ). I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice that jewelry line is. I have a smaller version of that necklace in white. I need to wear it soon!

      Have a beautiful day!

      Jenni

    • Thank you Scarlett! I am all ready deciding that I have to figure out when I can wear its blue twin this week.

      Have a lovely Thursday!
