Lavender Farm

If my husband’s favorite part of our Maui trip was The Crater, then mine would have to be Maui’s Ali’i Kula Lavender Farm. At only $3 a person and free parking, it is a bargain to get in and wander the beautiful property. They give you a map and a treasure hunt piece of paper that you stamp as you walk through the grounds (I recommend adults do this as the prize is age universal). My son LOVED this.

This picture was taken on the drive up. The drive is just beautiful.

There are many different paths. I like the name of this one.

And, of course, lavender farms means pictures of lavender.

We wandered through trees.

And up high. The views on the farm are incredible.

I even had a Buddha friend to keep me company.

Beautiful flowers.

20140614-120131.jpg

And creepy girl flowers.

My husband and I split a lavender scone. I wanted a picture, but he ate half of it before I could get the full thing.

It was really good.

Now. My favorite part. I love chameleons. And we were lucky enough to spot three Jackson Chameleons while we were there.

My husband said he’s never seen me so happy.

20140614-120513.jpg

But, how cute is this little guy?! Those horns! He is a baby. And I was madly in love. I could have spent the whole vacation up there playing with those lizards.

What are your thoughts on chameleons? Have you been to a lavender farm or eaten anything with lavender in it?

Outfit details: this dress is an older Anthropologie dress called Espejoa Mini-Dress. I am wearing the dress backwards. I would rather a keyhole be in the back. The closest dress I can find to it now is this dress. The shoes are Gentle Soul’s tall gladiator sandals and the necklace is Simply Livly’s Turquoise Necklace.

  1. I love chameleons. They really are adorable. That is the only lizard I don’t mind sitting on my shoulder, just hanging out.

In France they often have items made out of Lavender. Although I love the smell I find eating anything with lavender makes me feel like I’m eating perfume. I don’t like it at all.

That dress is gorgeous. And those boots are working out brilliantly for you.

    bisous

    • Thank you Suzanne. I am still getting a kick out of those shoes.

I would have loved to stay with those chameleons all day. It was so much fun.

I usually dislike lavender in my food. I agree about the perfume. But I did like it in the scone there. I also liked it in their fudge sauce. It was yummy. I imagine the lavender in France would be amazing. It is definitely what I think of when I think of that area.

I hope you are having sweet dreams!

  2. Welcome back Jenni! I have so enjoyed the posts so far of your trip. The lavendar park must have smelled AMAZING! I plan to cook up some crookpot spaghetti sauce today – I am excited! I will let you know how we like it, Every recipe I have tried from you has been wonderful so I have no doubt this will be too. Our ultrasound is the 27th!!! Can’t wait!

    • The lavender farm had just begun blooming when we were there, so we did not get the full blooms. It actually did not smell. I bet when it finally does bloom all of the way, it will be amazing! I cannot wait for your ultrasound!!! I am so excited!

      Have a fabulous Wednesday!

  3. The creepy flower is awesome! We have a lavender festival yearly here in MI, I love the lavender lemonade! You are so adorable with the chameleons… my son wants one very much… but we have so many critters in the house already…

    • Thanks Lora. The creepy flower starts off as this weird hard grey zombie looking pod. So odd. I need to look up what it is. I would get a chameleon in a heartbeat but I worry I would kill it. They need a very special environment. I just know I could not bear it if it died because of me. Oh. And the crickets! My sister has two lizards and the crickets would drive me bonkers!

      Have a lovely Wednesday!

  4. I bet that the smell at the farm was amazing! I love the chameleon! So fun. I love little lizards. I was always so happy to see them when I was in Uganda. They eat all the gross bugs and spiders and are way cuter:) The other girls hated them, especially in the shower…but I loved to see them. My boys would have wanted to keep one for a pet!

It is so smart to wear the dress backwards! Brilliant. Again, I love it with your sandals.

    • Thank you Alicia. I think the chameleons in Maui are originally from Africa so I bet they are very similar. How could those girls not like them? I would be happy for those bug eaters. Did you ever read “Kisses From Kate.” She adopted some girls in Uganda and currently lives there. She is so inspiring. I bet you would really like that book.

      Have a wonderful week!

    • Thank you so much Sarah. I hope you get there. It is gorgeous. The whole vibe is very relaxed. I hope you are feeling good. I look forward to your posts.

      Have a delightful week!

  5. What a cool trip. I love lavender. Could you smell it in the air? And I love chameleons.

I was wondering when we’d see a longer post with this outfit after seeing your EA outfit this week. Lucky I didn’t have to wait long. You look beautiful, as usual.

    • Thank you Liana. I could not smell it in the air. The lavender had just started blooming. They have twelve varieties. I would love to go back when there is more in bloom.

I am glad you liked that outfit. It made me happy with the purple. And it was so easy in Maui. I love easy!

      Have a marvelous week!

  6. What was your prize? And I love the pictures. I have never seen a chameleon or a horned lizard. Wow! I enjoyed your post very much.

    • Thank you. They are so cute. My cousin breeds lizards for a living so we got to see all sorts of different varieties growing up. I think that is why I am not that scared of them. The ones at our house freak me out, though. They are too fast!

He got a c***ie. I don’t want to write the whole thing in case someone wants to do it. I did not even get any of it. : (

Ollie skipped his bath because we are gone. Oh my gosh! That boy! He goes on Thursday. I wish he could have ran through some lavender. : )

I hope you are having sweet dreams!

      Jenni

      • I have never heard of a lizard breeder. That would make sense though. I learn all kinds of fun things on your blog. I thought you looked pretty experienced holding the lizards. My girl is due for her bath soon. She likes to run through my friend’s rosemary bushes and then lick them. Naughty puppy. She smells pretty good after that. Have a good day!

      • Thank you! That is sweet.

He started when he was in high school and now he lives on a beautiful island with his lizards (and wife and child). I would love to visit him someday. One time, I remember going over to his house when we were little (we are only a year a part) and two of those giant scorpions had escaped somewhere in the house. Ahhhhhh!

Ollie loves lavender of all things. We have some bushes and he tries to eat them!

He got a bath today! Woohoo!

        Have a lovely Friday!

  7. I will put this on my list of things to see when we go there. I had no idea that they had lizards that look like what you are showing us. On Kauai we saw Geckos when we were there two years ago. One night when we were out to dinner I looked down and there was a baby Gecko in my lap. It was too cute. It finally found it’s way down but I was worried we might step on it while leaving. We love Kauai and have yet to go to Maui but we are going to try it out for a short trip to see if we like it. Did you do the road to Hana? It sounds like too long of a drive.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Stacey

    • Oh! I would love a baby gecko in my lap. That is adorable. I hope you love Maui. The chameleons are only up in the mountain area. I hope you guys get to see one. The lavender farm is near the road to the volcano. It would be a good idea to do both in one day.

We did not do the road to Hana. I heard it is called “Divorce Highway.” I am a horrible backstreet driver. And I do not like drives. We did go down it to one waterfall (twin falls. I do not recommend). And to eat at Mama’s Fish House (highly recommend. Post coming up tonight).

I cannot wait for your trip! Have fun! : )

  8. I saw your outfit photo on Reader Outfits, but seeing the whole post with the scenery photos is so much better! The nature shots are gorgeous, and your marine outfit with aqua and coral works perfectly into the scene. I love visiting scenic spots, often just to soak in the scenery and take photos. Taking outfit photos has become part of the routine as well. 🙂

This looks really hazy and dreamy and steamy and hot. Maybe it’s the filter, but I am feeling the Hawaii atmosphere right along with you! And that photo with the chameleon is the sweetest. One of my favorite photos of me is at the Chattanooga Aquarium where a ray in the touch pool swam right up onto my hand and laid there. I love marine life and am pretty convinced I was a mermaid in a previous life, so that photo is very special to me. Even if it is super corny.

I’m loving seeing all of your Maui photos! Keep ’em coming!

    • Thank you Liz. I love the sting rays, too. But honest to God, I get strep throat every single time I do one of those types of touching aquariums. I feel like the slippery little guys are getting me sick. But that has to be in my head. I hope!

      Have a magical weekend!

      Jenni

    • Oh! How fun! I hope you get to go. I cannot wait to see outfit pics from there (if you take them). And thank you for the sweet words! : )

      Have a fabulous Friday!
