There are many reasons I am not a blog devoted entirely to fashion. Well, besides the fact that I can never just commit to one thing. I want all of the cake. All of it. And to eat it, too. Which brings me to my first reasoning:

The first being the most obvious one. I am not a model. And I don’t claim to be one. I have very few poses and I am just not that comfortable in front of the camera. And that is okay. : )

Locations. My husband is the location scout master (oh my gosh, isn’t he going to just love being called that?). On this day, it went something like this:

Him: “Let’s take a picture in front of that fence.”

Me: “Okay.”

Still Me: “Oh my God! There are ants everywhere. The ground is moving.”

Him: “Just step around them.”

Me: “AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!” screaming as I race around the ant hill, kicking up dust. Making the ants mad.

Him: unpostable.

And after all of that, I am itchy the rest of the day.

Third. I am a walking conundrum. Most women cut these strings out of their tops. But, me, I like them. They’re handy.

But they made an appearance in almost every picture.

Despite all of the fails of the day, I still wanted to show this easy boho look. Because I really like this Free People Pieced Lou Top. I bought mine in a large because I wanted a bigger looser fit. I love the green and the blue together. I purchased mine at Nordstrom Rack for $40. The link posted here goes to a different site.

The necklaces are a mixture of old Anthropologie layering necklaces and Simply Livly’s turquoise necklace. The bracelet is Free People’s Hammered Stacked Multi Cuff.

Yes, I will never be a be a blog devoted entirely to fashion. But I will be a blog devoted entirely to being a real girl.

Wearing clothes.

That she can’t help but share, because she loves them.

Even if it means an ant bite.

Or two.

*These photos were edited by adding the Bloom filter on the app Afterlife. I like the yellow vintage feel it gives the pictures.

    • Thank you Heather. I almost didn’t put it, because it is not my favorite, but it was either that or show a close up of my not so pretty fingernails. : )

Thank you again! Have a super week!

  1. I love that top. It is really fantastic. You always find the best things at Nordstom Rack. Your husband takes nice pictures. My husband freaks out when I ask him to take pics…he gets all self conscious and claims he doesn’t know what I want him to do…so no outfit pics for me 🙂 I will have to look into afterlife. I am wanting to use a better editing software. Have a good week!

    • Thank you Alicia. He is really good with the camera. It usually takes him less than five minutes to take the pictures. I am horrible with the camera. I would be like your husband and feel like I would not know what to do. I would not want to mess them up. I think my husband just wants to get it over with. ; )

I love Afterlife. It is an app. I believe it was $1. But it might have been $2 or $3. It is a great price. I highly recommend it. I just edited a different post using it. I love how you can deepen or lighten a photo with it.

You have a good week, too! : )

    • Thank you Pam! I wore your necklace with the VW bus the other day. We finally got it running and it was so much fun. I can do the white necklace after we get back!

      Have a beautiful week! : )

  2. first off, you may not be a model but you are gorgeous enough to be one! secondly, your poses are picture worthy and this post is proof of that! thirdly, you look awesome in this outfit–love it! and lastly, i love real posts by real people! you are a real woman and your posts reflect it. hence the reason i read them. so i applaud you! great job!

    • Thank you! It was an easy day. I like to wear just comfy clothes when it calls for it. I was so happy to find this top! It is like wearing pjs! : )

I hope your week is fabulous!

  3. That is too funny about the ants. Kind of makes me itchy just thinking about it.

I cannot believe you keep those stupid strings. I HATE those things. You need to buy yourself some flocked hangers and you will never see those stringy things again in any photo because you will have cut them all off.

I’m funny though since I don’t like to waste “stuff”, I cut off the strings but then think,” that is darn good ribbon…I’m gonna save that for something.” Now I have a big collection of “too-short-to-do-anything-with” ribbon cut from my clothes. Thankfully when shopping thrift and vintage they don’t have those silly things. I need to surf Pinterest for some amazing project to use up all of those ribbons LOL.

Your photos still turned out amazing. There is a hazy quality to them.

    bisous
    Suzanne

    • Thank you Suzanne! I know. I need to cut them. After you posted this today, I did go and cut them out of the shirt I was wearing today. It was kind of freeing! I didn’t keep the strings. My husband all ready thinks I keep too much! I bet you can find some great projects to do with it. Especially if they are different colors (the ones I cut out tonight were pink). You are so creative! I bet you do something awesome with them!

      Sweet dreams!

  4. Haha, oh you poor thing! I can just picture you running around with ants up your legs! Here is a slightly cruel tip for you – you could bring a thermos or two of boiled water to that hill and pour it over the ants, or their anthill (even more effective) to kill them all. My mother taught me that, she is a very badass lady. Sorry if that seems cruel!

Anyway, you look so good in these photos! So healthy and natural, if that makes sense? I love that top on you, it suits you to a tee (see what I did there?). 😉 Oh, and that filter is lovely! You’re right, you do look very vintage here! 😉

    • Awww. I couldn’t do that. If it was at my house, absolutely! We have an ant exterminator that comes every few months. But the ants at the location belong there in the wild. I would feel so bad! Besides it is the ones outside of the hole that are bugging me. I would have to get them all. And then that would make mud! And mud is worse than ants next to clothes! : )

Thank you Gwen. I have gained 6 pounds and really need to lose it. I was so bad on my diet last month! I am glad I look healthy, though. That made me smile. I felt very calm that day.

      Have a wonderful Tuesday!

  5. Oh I just adore this look! And I love those photos! As bloggers are we supposed to divulge when we use filters? I layered 3 for a photo I used today because there was no way I could post what I really looked like so up close. It makes me wonder how many of the other bloggers who have such professional looking photos use them? I wonder. Your photos look like they could be in a fashion magazine!

    • Thank you Cynthia! I definitely do not think you need to divulge you use filters at all! I just did it in case anyone wanted a photo to have a yellow tinge like that, they would know which one I used. I think that app is so cool! I have seen A Beautiful Mess disclose which filters they are using but that is because they created the filters.

Thank you so much. Oh my gosh a magazine! With my poses?! That is so sweet. I look like I am riding an invisible pony! : )

      Sweet dreams!

  6. love this top! hey, you are a model to me! I look to your blog for all you post…fashion, food, family, real life stuff us moms are made of! great look, I’m loving the outdoors pix!

    • Thank you Melodee! I appreciate that. Your comment made my day! : ). Ditto to you, girl!

      Have a great Tuesday!

      Jenni

    • Thank you Liana! I almost didn’t put that close up. So, I appreciate that. A lot. Close ups are harder as I get older! So, thank you so much! : )

      Have a beautiful Tuesday!

  7. LUV that top! I think all your pics look great, esp the new, adventuresome outdoors ones. I’m a bit limited in my selfie shots since I need the full mirror for my full outfits, oh well! Before that mirror I’d bug my husband, he’d do it, but roll his eyes at me, so now I think it’s just better if I do it myself. He’s not mean about it, but you know how silly boys can be! 🙂

I cut those ribbons out bc I can’t stand them to show & if they are ribbon I save them bc I think one day I may need some ribbon like that…..now I have a ziplock full of random, different sized short ribbons…hmmmmm.

You weren’t crazy about my vacay posts dates, I always post them back, using the date they happened when we are away. I guess that’s just my type a personality wanting it to be the exact date of post that the specific vacay day happened on. Especially since I think of my blog as my & my families’ day to day diary + fashion & other things just for me! Also, again, I always look forward to your comments. You’re very sweet & always make me smile. And feel good bout myself. I’m sure you know that as women, most of us second guess ourselves or don’t always feel the most confident in how we look or what we’re wearing, & that includes me! Your nice notes are always uplifting & help me feel better about what I wore or whatever, so thanks so much for that! I think you always look lovely & pretty too & am glad you’re stepping out of your comfort zone to embrace some fashion fun! I think trying new things & meeting new people is one of the best perks of the blogging community!

I hope you’re enjoying your family on a beach in Maui right now & if so, you all deserve it & I’m so jealous bc I’m working the next 2 days! 🙂

    Have a great night, friend!
    – rebecca

    • Thank you Rebecca! I know what you mean. I am sure my husband would rather not do it, but he is used to it now. And honestly the whole thing from driving to and from and taking pictures is about fifteen minutes. So, it is not bad. I actually like doing them. I get bored so easily so it actually helps me because otherwise I might not ever leave the house.

Thank you. Your comment was so sweet. I always look forward to your comments as well. The internet can be a mean and scary place. It is so nice to find friends and share lives! I second guess myself all the time. I think I edited tomorrow’s post thirty times. I was not and still am not sure I worded something right. But I am still posting it. At some point, I just have to let go. : )

We leave for Maui Thursday morning! So, I must find my bathing suits! I still have not found them! : )

You have a great week, too, friend!

      Jenni

  8. Exactly! Real girl. Sharing what she loves.

When I look at some blogger photos, they seem so natural and modelesque in front of the camera. It looks like they live in the most picturesque backdrops. And I’m over here on my patio or in my parking lot, trying not to look terribly awkward. Maybe I can convince Kyle to drive me out to idyllic picnic sites every weekend, and we can take photo shoots there. I am amazed how patient he is about being my photographer.

I love the bleached, desert look to these photos. And your look is so casual and relaxed but still completely hip. Keep doing what you do. All of it. The food, the fashion, the anecdotes, everything. I certainly enjoy it and look forward to reading it whenever I have a chance to catch up on my reading!

    • You are so sweet. Thank you Liz! You have what I don’t have. An awesome city setting. And cool older houses. We are so lucky to live in the craziest of different pretty areas. Of course, I am always terrified of being seen! God forbid someone actually see me taking a picture or even worse, twirling! Oh my gosh!

I always love, love, love your pictures. You are so gorgeous, I never notice the background just your beautiful smile.

      Have a fabulous Friday!

  9. i totally agree with you. doing outfit photos can be intimidating. especially afterwards when you are going through the editing process, and you realize just how many unattractive faces you make, or discover that one angle that makes you look about 20 pounds heavier. with that said, i think this boho look is just awesome. i love the flowy top and the boot cut jeans. i’m so happy that they are finally coming back. it will be a nice change from having to squeeze ourselves into skinnies all these years.

    • Thank you Jac. Oh man, last night I attempted some outfit photos on the beach. Oy. I do not think I got one good one, but I need to go back through and check. It doesn’t help that I am eating nonstop on vacation. I am happy flowy is back, too. I cannot get enough of it!

      Have a great weekend!
