It’s The Little Things: Pretty Dining Pieces

The other day found me in an Anthropologie and I fell in love with a few pieces for the table. Of course, I only purchased two of each dining item…for my family of four. This was to justify the cost and also because I like mixing and matching.

I saw these wine glasses and I had to have them. They even have a pretty product name, “Cumulus.” They are one of my favorite colors. That seafoam minty green. I am now praying we don’t break them. When I pulled them out to show my husband, I said, “I would like to introduce you to Carl.” Anybody?

These plates (I cannot find them anywhere online)! Spaghetti in these plates?! Yes, please! I only purchased two. I want six more of these. They are all ready discounted, but I am hoping to bide my time for an even better sale price.

They will keep pastas nice and contained in the bowl/plate (I cannot figure out exactly which one of these categories this fits into).

I have tried a new spaghetti recipe I will be blogging about soon. It is made in the crockpot. It is easy. It makes a ton. I freeze half of it in two containers and each container is a family sized serving. Anyway, it has coffee grounds in it. Yes, coffee grounds! So weird, but it is delicious. Especially the next day. Here is the recipe in case you want to try a new spaghetti recipe and do not want to wait for my post. It is from the blog, Layers Of Happiness.

I did, ahem, cut back on the water… And, cough, um, double the wine. I am quite sure that does not surprise you.

Speaking of water. How pretty will these be with water in them? I have had these purple tumblers in my wishlist for forever. I finally just caved and bought two while I was at the store. I like to purchase my breakables in store, because far too often I have waited for sale and bought a piece I have desperately been waiting for only to have it arrive broken and subsequently also be sold out.

I first heard about this candle on Liz’s blog, With Wonder And Whimsy. I was intrigued. I love food flavored candles. Although typing that sentence made my stomach churn. That doesn’t quite sound right when it is phrased in that manner. It is “Strawberry Shortcake” scented. “Scented”! That was the word I was missing! It smells like a strawberry Starburst candy. I cannot wait to burn it.

The sad part is I rarely burn my candles. I am usually cooking and I like the smell of food cooking better than candles. And I have a rule that my house has to be spotless in order for me to get the privilege of burning a candle.

So, maybe never? That will be when this candle is used. But I can still sniff it. That’s got to count for something, right?

Have you purchased any home items lately? Do you burn your candles with wild abandon or do you have weird rules about them like me?

* I shared this on Savvy Southern Style.

  1. Oh, those wine glasses! They are just gorgeous! I would put them out for display, they are so pretty! I actually don’t like wine, but I love a good wheat beer, so maybe I could put that in it?! Is that sacrilege to the all the wine drinker?!
I bought some really cute juice glasses on sale at Anthro a few months ago. I just love them. Those plates are awesome….I may have to scour the sale room next time!
As for candles, I like to light them at night, in my family room, after the kids are in bed. I usually only light them when it is cold out, so summer rarely gets any burn time. I don’t know why. I didn’t think I had rules, but I guess I do! If I waited till my house was clean….well, they would never be lit!

    • Thanks Alicia! I washed them in the dishwasher last night. Every serving piece I own has to be able to go in the dishwasher. Thankfully they came out clean and unbroken. I did have to wash them on the bottom rack. I am going to drink wine in one tonight. Wish me luck! : )

I might burn a candle tonight if I can get enough of my chores done. I have to give myself incentive otherwise nothing would ever get done.

I think you can drink anything in anything. No rules for that here! If you ever visit California, I will gladly serve you up beer in one of these wine glasses! : )

      Have a peaceful night!

  2. Hi Jenni,
I got the strawberry shortcake candle for my birthday from a friend. It smells amazing. My kids think it’s the best candle they’ve ever smelled.

    • Happy Belated Birthday! That is good to know it smells good burning, too. I am really hoping I let me burn it a little tonight. ; ). I miss you. I hope you are doing well. We need to get together one day!

      Have a happy week!

  3. I looooove the wine glasses Jenni! They look so pretty! I used to collect more dining pieces but since I have to move often due to college and now law school I decided to postpone getting fancy chinaware until I know that I’ll be living in one spot for a while!

    • Thanks Deniz. I have bought pretty wine glasses before and then have been so disappointed when the pretty colored part washes off. These look like actual colored glass swirled with other colored glass. So, I hope that is not an issue with these!

You are so inspiring. I hope your finals went well. So excited for you. I hope that means you get a nice relaxing summer off!

      Have a fun week!

    • Yay! Yes! You got it. : ). Even though Carl is long broken. He will ever be my favorite. : )

Have a terrific week! Thanks for responding and not leaving me hanging!

    • Thanks Lyn! Oh my gosh. Guess what?! I drank out of the wine glass tonight. It was fine. Then I drank out of the purple glass and when I put it in the sink, it slipped and I broke it! Easy come. Easy go.

That spaghetti is so good. It is better the next day. I have one more family sized serving frozen waiting to be used! Can’t wait!

      Have a fabulous Friday!

  4. Oh no. I just saw that you broke the purple glass 🙁

I like how you mix and match your glasses/plates. I really like to buy things in sets which has led to me accumulating a massive amount of pottery (much to my husband’s chagrin).

    • I was so bummed! But thankfully I rarely get attached to things. I have one left. We had called the two magic glasses because during the day they are purple but at night they are clear and turquoise blue. My son got to use the magic glass tonight! : ). We watched “Starddust” together. Tomorrow I hope to start reading my new Brandon Sanderson book. I have been putting it off because I think it is around 1000 pages. But I am craving something hew to read.

There is nothing wrong with a lot of pottery! I love the idea of that. Although, my husband would probably not like it either. Men… ; )

      Sweet dreams!

  5. I especially favor ur purple glass – ty for sharing everything! Sadly, I no longer can burn my candles & am actually looking for a new home for them (would you like to receive a big book of slightly burnt candles???) because I have cats, and one especially is a jumper ….

    • Thank you. I love that purple glass, too. I broke one yesterday and almost broke the last one tonight!

You are so sweet. I have so many candles I never burn because of my silly rules. I cannot take on anymore, but thank you for your super sweet offer. I used to have a cat like that. I had forgotten about how we never burned our candles on the counter because she was so fluffy and could go up so quickly. I started buying those sconces for the wall and that is all I would use. I still have those, though I always forget to use them. Have you tried those? That was our solution for many years.

      Have a lovely weekend!

  6. My favorites are those pretty purple tumblers!
Ya know – I am not much of a candle person. Sometimes in winter I like a cinnamon candle or in summer a grapefruit candle but really – I too would rather smell food. Especially chocolate chip cookies!

    • Those are my favorite, too. Although I all ready managed to break one. The glass is really neat because depending upon the time of the day and how much light is let into a room, the glass will change from purple to completely clear or even turquoise. I am calling it my magic glass! : )

Hopefully Marcy will let you sleep in tomorrow!

  8. Yay! So glad you got the candle! My Yankee Candle “Pink Sands” pillars are about burned down, so I think I’m going to replace them with two of the strawberry shortcake ones from Anthro.

I also love funky dishes. I like mixing and matching them. I have a mix of sturdy Fiesta plates and delicate pink ruffled vintage china. I love the juxtaposition. I pick up a few pieces here and there from antique stores, boutiques, and thrift shops. I’d really like to find some fun glassware. A lot of Anthropologie’s pieces are so thin and delicate that I fear we’d be breaking them left and right. But their new plastic dinnerware pieces perfect for dinner on the patio? The ones with Frida Kahlo-like designs? That’s something I can get behind!

    • Thanks for the recommendation, Liz! I would never even looked at that candle had it not been for you. It is so good. Of course, I still have not lit mine. Messy house and all of that.

I love all of their new pieces. You know, I have collected their plates for years and have never broken one. But the glasses? I have very few left. I do think that might have more to do with what is being put into the glasses to transform the user into a clumsy oaf. But so far, I have used those wine glasses three times! Woot! No breakage. : )

      Have a great week!
