In The Queen’s Rose Garden

20140510-123048.jpg

I snuck away to a rose garden the other day to take some pictures of my new Frangipani Peasant Top. I kept my eyes peeled for a Cheshire Cat, but in doing so stumbled and fell.

Just call me Tweedledum-b.

I had no idea that Frangipani was a flower until sweet Liana from The Frock and the Hound commented yesterday on my giveaway stating it was her favorite flower. I looked it up and found that Frangipani is actually Plumeria. Who knew? Well, I guess Liana did. ; )

I had purchased the Frangipani Peasant Top (sold out, kind of similar Forever 21 version here and slightly similar plus size option here) during the additional 20% off sale items and received free shipping through a store. I was unsure about it, because it was so expensive. But it was like nothing I had ever seen before. I am a sucker for baggy clothes. Especially baggy clothes with floral and crocheted lace.

I was ignorantly calling it, “Fran-ja-pan-neeee,” with a deep Southern twang around my house. Having no clue of its definition, I just thought it was a fun word to say. And whisper in my husband’s ear.

He loved that.

We went to the local rose garden to take pictures. I felt like Alice wandering through The Queen’s Garden. Except instead of falling down a rabbit hole, I fell into the cactus behind me. I, of course, would manage to fall into the only cactus in the entire rose garden. I did not say, “Frangipani!”, when I fell. Although, now that I think about it, that would be a great exclamation. Certainly more appropriate than what I probably said.

I love my new Anthropologie Scalloped Monogram Bracelet that I wore that day. I have two of them. One with my initial and the other with my husband’s. I cannot wait to pair them together.

20140510-171303.jpg

The roses are gorgeous right now. It was nice to see blooms with this drought going on. It is such a peaceful place. Each time I am there, there is no one else visiting. They must be scared of The Queen.

20140510-171230.jpg

I even wore my Rabbit Earrings to sneak through the garden. If you will notice, the rabbit has two different colored eyes. Kind of like a certain Mad Hatter. You don’t think this is the secret love child of The Mad Hatter and The White Rabbit do you?

If it is, you know I will love them even more. Does that make me mad?

Do you have a rose garden near you? Be sure to visit it soon. The best blooms will be gone in three weeks. And with them, any chance to visit Wonderland or the opportunity to yell, “Frangipani!” at a cactus. And that would be a shame to miss.

  1. What a beautiful garden, I just adore roses! We’re not as far ahead in the season as you are, so the roses in my own garden are only just starting to have some shoots appear after the winter hibernation, so I imagine it will be a good few months before we get any roses appearing. In the city I used to live in, Cardiff, there’s a beautiful rose garden in Roath Park, and i love strolling through it when the blooms are out, some of them have the most heavenly scent. Come on Spring, get working on the roses around here! P x

    • Thank you Porcelina! My own roses bloomed and have gone all ready. I need to go prune them in hopes of getting more! : ). That rose garden sounds lovely. I have heard Cardiff is beautiful. I hope when your roses bloom in great abundance this year! : )

      Have a lovely week!

  2. I love your gorgeous garden photos. Both you and the roses are so beautiful. I love your top! Have a wonderful day!

    • Thank you so much Gayle Ann! I appreciate that! : ). It is a very serene place to walk through. My son has asked to go with us next time.

I hope you had a wonderful day and a beautiful week!

  3. I can’t get over how pretty that rose garden is! It’s FULL of blooms right now. I’m loving your top! It’s definitely something I’d pick out for myself πŸ™‚ I love how you paired it with flared jeans!

    • Thank you so much! They take such good care of the rose garden. It is a group and it is free to the public to enjoy. It is tucked away in the middle of nowhere. I love it. I have been twice this month and hope to go at least once more to get another outfit photo.

      Thank you again!

      Have a happy week! : )

      Jenni

    • Thank you! You, too! : ). They did. I just finished a slice of The Pioneer Woman’s chocolate cake that they made. Yum! I hope you had a great day, too.

      Have a lovely Monday!

  4. Happy Mothers Day, Jenni!…and why yes, I live in the “City of Roses”! We have the most amazing Rose Garden up by the Zoo and Forest Park…have you been there when you have visited?

    • Thank you Kara! I have not been to the Rose Garden when we have been there. It is hard, because his family loves to stay home when we visit. We hope to be able to explore the city more the next time we go! Hopefully soon! Although, I imagine it will not be until next March! I have driven by the zoo many times, but have never gotten to go. : (

I must do it next time! Have a terrific week!

      • You need to try and come in the summer!~(or even May)…(much nicer weather) we are in the 80’s all week this week..Woot!..hope you day was wonderful πŸ™‚

      • Oh! 80s sound great! It was in the nineties today. So hot! And it is just going to keep getting hotter. We do need to get there in the summer. Unfortunately, this summer is so booked. : (. His brother is coming down from Portland to visit in August, though. So that will be fun. I love cold weather so I love visiting Portland any time. The food is so good, too! Lucky! : )

You have an awesome Tuesday. Enjoy your beautiful weather!

  5. Happy Mom’s Day, Jenni! We love you so very much. You are my “mom-idol” that I look up to in raising my own little rascal. I have, and I know I still will, learn so much from you. You are such an incredible mom, and the kiddos love and adore you. Have a great day today. xoxoxo

    • Thank you Mandi! Happy Mother’s Day to you, too! I love you. It was so nice to be able to see you yesterday. I loved being able to see the little man, too. Oh, and your sweet husband. I just wrote a story about Dad’s old van. I was remembering the fun we had in that! ; ). I love you! I hope you had a great day with plenty of rest!

      And have a beautiful week!

      Jenni

    • Thank you Brynne! Happy Mother’s Day to you, too! I hope you had a great day! : )

      And a cheerful week!

  6. Ha ha. What an awesome coincidence! (Side note: did you know that frangipane is a dessert?)

Great photos. I really love how you are following through on your promise to take photos in different settings. I love seeing those beautiful roses. And I adore your flowery top and your rabbit earrings.

    Happy Mother’s Day!

    • Thank you so much Liana! It was a fun setting. Oh my gosh! I had no idea that Frangi-anything mean anything. I love learning something new everyday! Thank you for that. I looked up that dessert and it looks really good. I want to try it someday!

Thanks again and have a gorgeous week!

      Jenni

  7. The Frangipani top! (i am screaming by the way) You got the Frangipani top! I am having one of those speechless moments where I am so in love with your entire post that all I can do is scream – Frangipani top! Rose Garden! Alice in Wonderland theme! So beautiful! Loooooove!!!!

    • Thank you! Thank you! It was a spur of the moment “let’s just see what it looks like on” moments. And then I fell in love with it. Of course, it broke my heart to spend that much. But I do love it! : ). I have actually worn it three times since I got it, so it is worth it!

Thank you again! Have a great week!

      Jenni

  8. What an amazing top! I saw it mentioned once on another blog..but it was full price and I didn’t even wishlist it. It is so beautiful on you! I love the rose garden. Our new house has a lot of roses bushes, but I am afraid that we trimmed them too far last fall…they are still looking pretty sad. I have no idea what to do with roses or flowers or plants in general. My thumb is pretty black. But I love roses and this post was so fun. I hope your mother’s day was beautiful!
Random side note: The paper straws got a second cut!! Go get a price adjustment or get more πŸ˜‰

    • Thank you so much! I hadn’t planned on buying it, but then did. And it does make me happy. I am so bad with plants. Seriously, the worst. I can’t even keep succulents alive. My mother-in-law so sweetly pruned our rose bushes last year. They bloomed and now I need to prune them again. I don’t see that ending well.

And oh my gosh! Thank you so much! I had not seen that they got cut further! You saved me $17!!!! Yea!!!

Thank you again! Have a happy week! : )

      Jenni

    • Thank you Heather! : ). I appreciate that. I hope to never see a cactus again. ; ). Or at least not one that close!

      Have a sweet week!

      Jenni

  9. I love these pictures of you! You should definitely venture out into nature more often for photos, they are lovely! Your top just makes you fit in perfectly, it’s like Wednesday Adams camouflage, you know? πŸ˜‰ Just be careful, eh? That cactus thing still makes my soul curl up and tie itself in a little knot every time I think about it. OH, and those bunny earrings! ADORABLE!

PS: Again, thank you for my necklaces, I wore them again today and I seriously heart them!!

    • Thank you Gwen! I did not even see it as camouflage. I love that! Too funny! Now I feel like a chameleon. The funny part is that I had not planned on taking pictures there. We wanted them at a pond, but it was closed for construction. So, this was our second choice but it worked out. Well, except for the sneaky cactus. To be fair, I did fall into it. It couldn’t help but defend itself.

I am so glad you like the necklaces!!! They look beautiful on you! I forgot to include the card. : (

      Have a delightful week!

      Jenni

      • I will definitely mail it. I am such a procrastinator. Hopefully I can remember soon! : )

        Have a gorgeous week!

        Jenni

  10. Lovely roses. I especially like fragrant roses. Our first are just coming out here and the garden is looking better every day. I saw one of the few Anthropologie stores in the U.K. last week when I was in London and saw some outfits from the doorway and I thought that you would be taking them home.

There is a photo of you between 2 cactus plants so as no-one else has said it as the old saying goes you were rose between two thorns πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much! And I loved your saying, too. So sweet! Made me smile.

I love fragrant roses, too. My favorites are the purple ones because they smell like candy. Well, at least, our purple roses in our backyard do. I hope you get an abundance. I absolutely loved your post last week about your walks through nature. So enchanting! I keep meaning to go over and comment! I showed my whole family that post because I thought it was so pretty!

      Have a lovely week!

  12. That garden looks like a gorgeous place to explore! Wow. I love it, I want to go there! I really love your long, loose pigtails, too!

    • Thank you Rachel! I want to go back, too. But these winds have been insane! It looks like next week we will be getting different weather so hopefully I can pop in again then. It is an easy place for pictures right now.

Thank you again! Have a happy Thursday!

      Jenni

    • Thank you! The thing I have to remember with that top is good posture. If I slouch, the top implodes into a bit of craziness. Sometimes I forget.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I love your site so much.

      Have a lovely week!

      Jenni

    • Thank you Jess! I appreciate that. I finally realized lately that boho is just my favorite. I feel most comfortable in a bohemian look. Thank you again!

      Have a delightful Thursday!

  13. These are extraordinarily gorgeous! The photo shoot, the top, your styling of your outfit, the gardens…I could go on! What an incredible top. Part Victorian, part flower child, and completely Jenni. So, so lovely. It has that whimsical mixed media feel that I just adore. And you’ve certainly branched out from your traditional fireplace backdrop. I love seeing you out frolicking in the sun! Those earrings, too. They perfectly complete your whole Alice in Wonderland theme. I loved this post!

    • Thank you so much Liz! It is fun to venture out of the house. Of course, it comes with certain risks. Like today when we got home after taking pictures and I realized my shirt in the back had been folded at an unflattering angle for every picture. Or yesterday when my girdle was peaking out in half of the photos! That sucks when you spent time getting there and coming back home. I think I might have four usable photos from today. But every time is a learning experience. It is fun to push myself. And my husband is getting really good with the camera!!!

      Thank you again!

      Have a fabulous Friday!

  15. That blouse is beautiful on you and you are in such a perfect setting.
I hope you had a nice mother’s day. We took a walk in the redwoods which was perfect, even though I had my daughter complaining that she was worn out most of the time. It added some comedy because she can be a diva at times.
    Have a great evening,
    Stacey

    • Thank you so much. A walk in the redwoods sounds beautiful. I would love to visit there some day. You are so lucky to live so close. My husband always works on Mother’s Day. I reheated us some spaghetti sauce I had frozen and then he came home he baked The Pioneer Woman’s Chocolate Sheet Cake for me with the kids. That was lovely.

      Have a gorgeous week!
