NOW CLOSED! Thirteenth Month Blog Giveaway: Moon Necklace

Thank you to all who entered. This giveaway is now closed.

It’s time for my monthly giveaway! : ). I love this day!

Thank you all for your support. I appreciate it. So, so, so much.

I never even knew I had so much to say. Or share. Or anything inside of me. And you have brought that out of me. You have made my world which was so small seem so much bigger. And I am so grateful.

I was thinking about what I wanted to give away this month. And I knew I wanted to support someone new (to me) on Etsy that I had not featured before. I love supporting the artists of this world.

So, I purchased a necklace from Lunahoo, that I, myself, love. I think all of her jewelry on her site shows so much imagination and spirit. I love the bee products she creates, as well as the whimsical cats and cloud creations. I am thrilled with the item I chose to give away this month. And I love knowing it was handmade from a woman across the globe.

It is a Moon Necklace. It is handmade with love from Spain. I could not resist purchasing one for my daughter and myself to share, as well. I have always loved astronomy (that is until I took it in college. Ouch! The math! Who knew? But we will block that bit of unpleasantness from our minds). I also have a fascination with the moon. And I feel this represents how I feel about the readers of my blog. When I know you are reading, wherever you are in the world, I feel a connection to you. We might not be on the same place on this planet, but we will always share the moon.

Oh, man, now I’m all weepy. On to the rules:

  1. One my favorite memories growing up is all about the night sky. My parents would lay out blankets and pillows for my sister , brother and I .. We would watch the sky and cuddle together and fall asleep. My dad would carry us to our beds .

  2. One of the best things about growing up in a small town in the middle of nowhere…a huge nighttime sky full of bright stars to wish upon. No artificial city lights to drown them out. I have good memories of sitting on the porch swing with my dad looking at the stars above us and just feeling so loved. 🙂

  3. I have recently moved from a large city, Washington DC to a small town near the Blue Ridge Mountains. I never gave the night sky much thought before, you weren’t able to see much through the lights of the city. Where we live now is amazing, I never knew how many stars were visible in the sky. I also discovered that my husband ( who grew up on a farm) could name a significant portion of the constellations. My daughter has gained a appreciation for star gazing as well and we l have come accustomed to leaving our curtains open in our bedroom which has a large 10 foot wide window and overlooks a big open files and you can see the vastness of the night sky. It is truly amazing.

  4. I always love to look up at the night sky and see the stars… I think it sort of puts everything in perspective because sometimes we think our problems and all our stuff is the center of the universe, but just look up and you’ll realize just how small you are. Then realizing how miniscule we are, I am amazed to think that God cares for our problems and it’s just humbling.

  5. Ha!!! Astronomy was my 1 “math requirement” in college! Yes, I received a bachelor of arts degree, majoring in Art & English. I was quite lucky that the type of math astronomy requires actually clicked in my head…we had a planetarium set up inside an old 3 story building on my campus (we had to memorize a ton of constellations!). The rest of that floor was used as a bird museum for the biology department? Maybe? I don’t know, but we used that bird museum and that planetarium in a film I helped direct for film class. Wow. What a memory! Great giveaway! I ❤️Etsy!

  6. We just moved to the “country” in New England. It is amazing when I walk the dog on the property at night to look at the stars and actually see them clearly! (There are no street lights here and very few houses so it is DARK outside at night!) I love to look up and imagine the infinity there!

  7. What is it about our moon? I love when it is nearly full, and it appears to have two eyes and a smiling face. The night sky brings rest and rejuvenation from the hectic, and/or hot day. Jenni, you truly are a patron of the arts. I love that the Moon Necklace you chose is from an artist in Spain. And now we know about her too, because of you. 🙂

  8. Stars remind me of a couple things. First, and probably the most important to me is the movie ‘Amercan Tail’, specifically the song ‘Somewhere Out There’. When it came out, my mom and I took our oldest son to see it. One day, when he was grown and we lived in Washington and he in Nebraska, I sent him a text saying,
‘And even though I know how very far apart we are,
It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star,
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby,
It helps to think we’re sleeping underneath the same big sky.’
‘His return text was, I love you Mrs. Mousekewitz.’
It melted my heart. <3. Just re-reading this makes me tear up.

The second memory I have was camping once with my husband. I had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. This meant crawling out of the tent and peeing by a tree as I did not want to walk to the bathroom. I crawled out, looked at the sky and I wish I could describe it adequately but it was like I was IN the stars … Not just above me but all around and through me. It was the most amazing sight I have ever seen in nature and it was so grand that it actually frightened me, if that makes sense. I immediately woke Joel up so he could experience it too. Later found out where we were is famous around the world for it's star gazing parties. People come from all over to see the show.

  9. i have always loved space and wanted to by an astronaut till I found out that you had to be wicked smart, do LOADS of math, and not get motion sickness or be semi- claustrophobic…. So, than I just loved to look at pictures of space and the stars and constellations from the safety of my non-spinning, spacious couch 🙂 My oldest is really interested in the space and it has been fun to learn things with him. Thanks for the giveaway:)

  10. When I was little, I tried to figure out what the outlines/shadows on the full moon looked like. I thought that they looked like a beautiful woman sitting there.

  11. I have a great childhood memory of being away at summer camp and laying in a field looking up at the night sky made up of hundreds of thousands of stars. Since then if I’m ever out in the country you better believe I’m going to find myself a field and just lay there while looking up, wondering what is above.

The necklace is beautiful & I follow on bloglovin. Thanks!

  12. Most memorable moment I had looking up at the night sky was in Australia when we were out on a night walk to see Fairy Penquins (they were adorable and amazing!). The constellations looked totally different from that side of the earth. It was amazing.

  13. Thankyou for sharing that esty link, I just added it to my favourites. I have recently discovered many talented artists/jewelers and my wishlist is huge. I always wear a cresent moon in which was originally made by Stevie Nicks/her jeweler. She always wears her moon. To me it represents change/cycles of life. like most, I love to gaze at the sky and tune out to this crazy world!

  14. Happy 13 months! What a gorgeous necklace. I am a lover of the moon, and my husband and I often frequent our local planetarium. So there are many things I can say about the night sky, but I’ll just share a poem I wrote a few years ago.

    Astronomy Lesson

Our backs were turned to the sky
when I learned how to love.
Having just heard that it was
snowing on Mars you explain the
stars we watch are only the memory
of light, having died thousands of years
before. When we look at the moon we
    are seeing the past.

And the times I gave my heart I realize
were only practice, startled this makes me
shiver. Shocked as I was to learn that Pluto
was no longer a planet after memorizing
it in a mnemonic device so many years before.

If this could be false, what else?

  15. Looking up into the sky on a lovely clear night is such a great reminder of the ‘big picture’. Whatever that means for each individual it is so nice to know that the moon and stars will present themselves each night, and that the sun will rise the next morning. We cannot always predict the rest of our day but we can always count on this.

  16. I still wish on the first star I see. Star light star bright first star I see tonight. I wish I may. I wish I might. Have the wish I wish tonight. And then I say a prayer, often thanking God for the beautiful sky.

  17. Have you ever been to a caribbean island? Any of them. One of the best things about being on a caribbean island is that there is no light pollution. At night, in a clear sky, you can see literally a bazillion stars (I counted). The night sky is so dark, and the stars twinkle above me, and I just watch and dream…..also, you are almost guaranteed to see at least one shooting star, so have those wishes ready…….

  19. When Kyle and I lived in Chelsea, we would start a bonfire at sunset and lay out on a picnic blanket and look at the stars. Kyle would point out the same constellations every time, and like the great listener I am, I never remembered which were which. But it was a beautiful part of living in the country. We were too in the heart of the city in Savannah to see the stars, but our place in Nashville has much better nighttime views. I can see hot summer night spent out on the patio star-gazing again.

Thanks for another great giveaway! This one feels very special and sweet. I love that you request themed comments, too!

  20. Since the necklace is from Spain, I will share my Spanish stars memory. I got to enjoy the San Juan festival in Denia on the Mediterranean. Everyone lights bonfires on the beach and stays up late to look at the ocean, spend time with friends and family while looking at the beautiful night sky by the light of the many bonfires. Awesome contest. Thanks for doing it. It was fun to be reminded of that night.

  21. Love this necklace so much! We live in the country now and get to see a beautiful sky when there are no clouds. I would love to lay out and stare up at them!

  22. While I love to travel, I love that when I look up at the Southern Cross in the night sky, I know that I am back home in Australia.

  23. I spent seven months in Northern Uganda and would sometimes get up in the middle of the night just to go outside, lay in the hammock, and stare at the sky. The sky seems much larger there and you can see so many beautiful stars because there is no light pollution. They reminded me how very small I am in this great universe!

  24. I love the necklace! The weather last night was gorgeous, so we had a bonfire and looked at stars and spotted a few constellations 🙂 Looking at the night sky always puts things in perspective.

  25. One of my favorite memories as a teenager was camping and canoeing in Algonquin park, it was so warm that summer we just laid tarps out and slept right under the stars!

  26. We had a bonfire this weekend and a good clear sky. I love picking out the constellations. That blood moon tonight interests me; I’m hoping I can see it clearly from here.

  27. We need the stars to remind us of how small we are. I think losing the stars is the most serious result of light pollution from ever-expanding development. If we lose sight of the stars we lose so much about ourselves.

  28. What a great giveaway! LOVE the necklace. When I think about the stars, it brings back so many wonderful memories of camping. I guess I associate stars with camping. When you are in a sleeping bag, looking up at the sky, it feels so magical. I can’t wait to take Hugo camping:)

  29. I am “over-the-moon” thrilled to have won Gnomelover’s 13th Blog Give Away!-!-! Although I am 1st generation American (family is from Spain & Guatemala), the fact that the artist of this beautiful necklace, Nuria, is from Spain is very special to me. The moon is very significant to Spaniards (and Italians), and women in general. I went to her website, and loved Lunahoo’s custom pieces. Thank you Jenni for introducing us to Nuria, and thank you for the give-away gift! I love what all your subscriber’s wrote. All beautiful. XO
