Anthropologie Spring Reviews Part I

20140329-122704.jpg

I was on my own in Las Vegas and decided to go shopping and try on some of Anthropologie’s newest offerings. This is what I wore to Anthropologie and on my trip out by myself. It is an H&M lace top, Free People Lydia Maxi Skirt, Simply Livly Turquoise Necklace, and a more recent sale belt from Anthropologie.

Oddly, this outfit made me feel braver.

I think it was all the darn ruffles.

Don’t ask why.

I’m weird.

20140329-122838.jpg

The first dress I tried on was one of the two items I added to my wishlist (the other being a pair of jeans). I really, really like this Ijada Stitched Shift dress.

I really, really disliked the price tag. At $248, I will have to wait for a good sale. I have a size six on in the picture. It zips on the side bust and I could not zip it all of the way. Since, I was all ready there. In a dressing room. At the store. With a size eight. Just a few steps away. I…

Decided not to try it on.

Yep.

It is more fun guessing.

Or more lazy.

So, now I imagine I am a size eight in this dress, but I have no idea if it is true.

Aren’t my reviews helpful?

20140329-122933.jpg

I also tried on this Cissie Embroidered Dress. I thought it was okay. I really like the pattern and everything. But there was just somethin’ that did not call to me. This was a size six. I thought it fit fine.

I have so many similar items to this dress in my closet all ready. And the hi-lo thing is just not doing it for me. An unfortunate no for me. I am sad about this one, because it is cute.

20140329-125118.jpg

I also tried on the Grafton Marled Jacket with the dress. Because I liked the pattern in the store. I would not really wear these two items together in real life.

Well, unless I was in a closed room. And the other cardigan I wanted was ten feet away. Then we all know what my choice would be.

I am wearing a small here. If I purchased this, I would buy a medium. But this cardigan did not make it into my wishlist, so I will not be purchasing it. It was too bulky for me. Now I am seeing that they call this cardigan a jacket. I could examine the whys of that further, but I won’t.

20140329-130524.jpg

I love the Savant Swing Dress. It has been on my wishlist for what seems like forever. I had not seen the grey version of it in real life before this picture (I own the black and white striped version). Can you feel the love?

I am wearing a small here. The sleeves were impossibly tight. The store did not have a medium. I definitely need a medium. If they would have had it to try on…

Wait for it.

This will be shocking.

I would have.

20140329-131505.jpg

I had loved this Patula Maxi Skirt on Morgan from See Mo Go a few weeks ago. I could not wait to try it on myself.

Morgan rocked this skirt. It is so pretty on her. I was not in love with it on me. I am wearing a small. It fit fine. This was the only shirt I had in the dressing room that I thought might work with it.

Which means it did not go with it at all.

It never occurred to me to use the shirt I wore into the dressing room.

Again, not examining the whys of that further.

20140329-132703.jpg

Let me distract you from my pasty legs (and insanely messy contents of my purse) by telling you that this white shirt is the same Anthropologie Flounced Tee I tried on with the skirt above. And that is why the skirt styling will make even less sense to you.

Kind of like myself.

I really hate shorts. Like hate them. With a fierce passion. I think very few women can pull them off. Without cutting their legs into frumpy stumps. But these Finchley Pleated Shorts had elephants on them. In a gorgeous olive pattern. I am wearing a size eight here. The shirt is a small.

And I wanted to forget my shorts-naysayer in my head.

These were not good on me. They did not make it into my wishlist. But they are adorable.

I think. Gosh, I cannot believe I am going to say this.

But, I think many women could wear these shorts. And it would be cute. And I would like it.

Groan! That last admittance did me in.

Have you tried on anything you love lately? Added anything to your wishlist? Please tell!

P.S. Two nights ago I went to San Diego and while I was there I tried on even more pieces at Anthropologie. I ended up purchasing this Songbird Skirt in my usual size six. The review for this baby is behind two more review sets, so it will probably be two more weeks before I get to it.

But I knew some ladies wanted to see it. And when I want to see something, I love when someone shares. So, here is one of my pictures of the skirt. The waistband is super stretchy. But the sides are not. I do not think I would size down in this. However, if you are inbetween sizes, I would probably take the smaller one.

Sorry about the lack of smile. I thought this was the picture that best depicted the length of the skirt. Hope this helps! : )

P.S. I also did Anthropologie Spring Reviews Part II and Free People Spring Reviews.

  1. Your actual outfit on the day was so beautiful! Really stylish and elegant, everything just complements everything else so well… Ten out of ten!

You know, you could wear tights with those shorts. Coloured tights, even. And boots. Just saying. ๐Ÿ˜‰ They were cute on you!

Lastly, good choice on that Songbird skirt. Don’t recall you having anything like it, and the colours, pattern etc are PERFECT on you. I really like it with that olive green top and necklace too!

PS: I really hope your husband is okay after the scare you guys had with the car crash.

    HUGS!

    • Thank you Gwen! He is really sore and stiff, but he should be okay. I appreciate the thoughts.

And thank you for the sweet compliments! I appreciate it!

Oh man, I would never do the tights with shorts thing. I could not pull it off! I actually do not own one pair of shorts. Well, do long denim capris count? I’ve always just loved skirts and dresses.

      Have a terrific day!

      Thanks again! : )

  2. I think every one of these items look good on you and I’m not just saying that. I saw those green elephant shorts in Anthro this week (when I went do FINALLY buy the Kissing Bunnies belt –squee!). I loved them too…just wish they were a bit longer.

    • Hi Brynne! Yay! You got the bunny belt! I LOVE that belt so much! : )

Thank you for your kind words. I REALLY appreciate them! I agree, I would have purchased the shorts if they had been two inches longer. Or three. Or four…

      Have a lovely day!

  3. I agree with Gwen that your outfit that day rocked! I love the ruffled skirt but looking at it online it looks as it has a train – is that correct? May be a bit too much for me- anyway looks terrific on you!

    • Thank you Shari! I purchased mine from Nordstrom Rack and so there was just one and it did not have a train. Or so I thought. But then, Heather from The Peacock Fairy bought hers and told me to check the inside of the skirt, because the train ties up inside there. Yep, there it was. I never even noticed it! I have no reason to untie it, so I will just leave it tied.

Hope that helps! Thank you for the compliment! So sweet!

      Have a wonderful week!

  4. Yep, outfit that day was soooo on point :). Thanks for sharing the Songbird skirt. I may order with the free shipping as none if the 3 local stores have it.

    • Thank you Bronzi. I was shocked the San Diego store had it. But then, they had it oddly hidden in this short little rack. I grabbed mine from there. When I was leaving, they had moved them to the center of the floor. I imagine they sold more quickly after that!

I love that skirt! I oddly had it in our bed last night so I could examine the pattern. My husband was thrilled with that!

      Have a delightful week!

  5. Love seeing the full shot of the ruffle skirt! I thought all of the things you tried on were lovely on you. I tend to agree with you on the shorts thing – I never wear shorts.

    • Thank you Heather! And thanks for the note about the train! Yes! It was in there! Oh my gosh! That thing is huge. I probably would have been too scared of the train to buy it. I am so glad you told me it ties up there. Honestly, I never would have thought of that! : )

I hope your remainder of your weekend is great!

      Jenni

  6. You look lovely in the ruffled skirt! How pretty. I loved everything on you. I had never noticed those shorts, but have since added them to my wishlist. I actually hate shorts as well, but with 3 small kids, I have to wear them during the summer instead of skirts….no booty flashing aloud ๐Ÿ˜‰ I finally tried on the savant swing in the stripe this weekend. It is lovely! I would need to to be cut at least to 2nd cut to get it. I must force myself to stop getting dresses that are not nursing friendly, thus forcing me to rarely wear them…or wait for a year.
Can’t wait for more reviews. I always love seeing IRL pics. Maybe you could just double up on some post, so not to disrupt your normal blog flow?
    Anyway, thanks for the reviews!

    • Thank you Alicia! You brought up points I never thought of. Such as a mom with young kids. Yes, shorts are essential. In fact, I had some when my son was little. I had forgotten. Thank you for the reminder. And nursing tops. I had forgotten about that, too. Kristin from Lovely Apidae just purchased the button down top with birds on it for nursing. You might want to check it out. I have it in my second set of reviews, but I tried it on with some unfortunate pants that I wanted to rip off, so the poor top hardly was noticed.

      Have a happy day!

      Jenni

  7. Ah, that Lydia skirt, I die!! It’s so beautiful on you. I’d been intrigued when you first mentioned it, but I wanted to see a photo, I think I’m going to pinch my pennies and get it. I’m 5’2″ so I don’t know about the bustle. Everything else was lovely on you. I have the gray Savant Swing dress and wear it so much! That’s a definite. Glad you had some time to explore on your own in Vegas. Thanks for the great reviews!

    • Thank you Kindra! That skirt is long. I wonder if you could hem it. I bet you could. I am just unsure about the train. I, of course, did not even know it had one! I want the grey Savant Dress so badly, but I am waiting for sale. It is adorable! There was so much I did not want from Anthropologie for so long and now there is a ton I want. I cannot decide which is worse. ; )

      Have a beautiful day!

      Jenni

  8. Ah, bummed you didn’t like the maxi! It’s one of my favorites this year for sure. I had a little trouble figuring out the right shirt to wear with it at first, but I have a few options I love. Great reviews today! You look fab! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you Morgan! I love the way you paired the skirt with the chambray top. It is so pretty. The waistband is awesome. I just wish it was a bit longer for me. Ah, well. You rock it the best!

Thanks again! Have a wonderful week!

      Jenni

  9. You look so great in all of the outfits! LOOOOVE the first one too..like everyone else..thanks for showing us the bird skirt..I’m going to go downtown and see if its there to try on. I *may* have to do the petite for length issues..we shall see ๐Ÿ™‚ Love your posts..look forward to you every dayโ€ฆHappy Sunday ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thank you Kara! I am glad you like it. It is such a fun skirt. I might have to wear it today. Although I am just going to the grocery store. It might deserve a better outing than that! : ). I hope it works for you. I would probably guess that if you usually take a petite, you would want a petite in this skirt. It is on the longer side of a circle skirt.

Thank you again! I hope your rest of your weekend is peaceful!

      Jenni

      • Yepโ€ฆI went ahead and ordered the 4P..it was more comfortable..vs ..the 2 ๐Ÿ™‚
Ohhh yes,โ€ฆ. the Savant dressโ€ฆI have the grey and love it so much. The only thing I am worried about is that is says dry clean only..and I so with I could hand wash it in Woolite or something..but I’m afraid to chance it. Puella stuff seems to be safe with hand washing but you just never know..and I’d be so sad if I ruined it. I almost want to buy another just in case. ๐Ÿ™‚
Nowโ€ฆ.. I’m after the Tonnelle dress..*sigh*..I tried the white dress by the same brand in the store(zips up the front..)..just to gauge sizing. I really need to wait but hard to do..it would put me into May’s budget! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Oh! I am glad it worked for you. And I am glad you were able to get the size you needed. I want that Savant Dress so badly, but I am patiently waiting. The good news is it looks like it will definitely hold out until at least April for sale. That makes me happy! I did not know it was dry clean only. Darn. I have the black and white version. It is a completely different fabric than the grey one and I just throw it in the washing machine with everything else. Thanks for letting me know about the grey version, because I probably would have ruined it!

Enjoy your new skirt! I love the beetle with the umbrella on it. Too cute!

        Jenni

  10. Why are you so hung up on being an 8? I thought it did not matter what size people are! I think you look great 6 or 8. Even a 14 for that matter.

    • Hmmm. I had to go back and reread what I wrote. I meant for it to read as me being too lazy to try on the size eight. Not because it was a size eight, but because I hate trying clothes on. I always list what size I am wearing, so people will know which size to purchase for themselves. You are correct when you say sizing does not matter to me. In my other set of Anthropologie reviews I tried on two days ago, I try on a size fourteen and decide to wishlist a ten. So, nope, sizing is just a number. Still.

      And I am lazy. Still.

And I do not regret trying on a six. And I do not regret not trying on an eight. But I am having nightmares about not digging up the penny (HEADS UP) between the baseboard and the wall crack in that dressing room stall. Oi! : )

      Have a happy week!

      Jenni

  11. Haha, what an honest set of reviews. Sometimes I’m too lazy to get other sizes so I just guesstimate and buy the next one up. My favorite has to be the first ruffle skirt—you look like a prairie princess in the best way possible. Also, I’m not a shorts/pants fan either, but I’ll take the elephant print on a skirt, Anthro!

    Brittney

    Another Beautiful Thing

    • Thank you Brittney. I am glad you like the ruffled skirt. It is the only thing that went home with me that day. Well, that also has a lot to do with it being the only thing I brought with me. I think they probably appreciated me taking it with me.

Sorry. It is late and I am silly!

Oooh! I would love that elephant print on a dress. That would be cute!

      Thank you again! So sweet!

      Have a wonderful week!

      Jenni

    • Thank you Jessica! I love that skirt, too. I have not had a chance to wear it yet, but I hope to in the next few days! I hope you love it when you try it on. It is so fun!

      Have a delightful evening!

      Jenni

  12. Thanks for this review set! I love that black ruffled skirt. Like. Omg. I’ll be trying on that one soon! My other favorite is the jade embellished dress. That color looks gorgeous on you. It’s not something I would try on from seeing it on the hanger, but you’re really selling it! The price seems a bit nuts, but it’s definitely worth waiting for sale!

    <3 Liz
    http://www.withwonderandwhimsy.com

    • Thank you Liz! I did really like that green dress. I am hoping for third cuts on it. I normally do not do sleeveless, but I love this one. And you could dress it up or down.

You would rock that ruffled skirt! I would love to see you style it. You are more inventive than me!

      Have a wonderful week!

      Jenni

    • Thank you Mark. I definitely liked this set of reviews better than the ones I have coming up. Those I am nervous about posting!

Thank you again! Have a beautiful week!

      Jenni

  13. omg everything you posted is adorable….including the free people skirt, holy cow, love that! it’s dangerous looking at these anthro posts, makes me wanna shop!

    • Thanks Melodee! I feel the same way, but I wishlist most things. I have to be “good.” It is hard! That is why I rarely go to an actual store!

      Have a super Tuesday! : )

      Jenni

  14. That outfit in the first pic is so beautiful! Wow!
I like the swing dress and the songbird skirt too. They look fantastic on you. I also don’t wear shorts. I need clothes that go down to my knees.
I was at Anthro yesterday and thought that I should do some reviews but it really is a lot of work and if I don’t like something I want to take it off immediately. Plus, the lighting was funny and I looked weird. Too Much Pressure!!! Aaaackkkk!!
So thank you for doing these! I l do love outfit reviews!

    • Thank you Cynthia!

You are right. It is a lot of work. Only because I get so darn hot trying on clothes. And also because I hate trying on clothes. It is definitely not my favorite. Although, I do not mind writing the reviews. My next batch is a tough one, because I did not adore anything and I do not want to be too negative.

Thank you again! Have a stupendous week!

      Jenni

  15. Oh girl I am really sending out good vibes for you to discover that green dress somewhere on sale. It is GORGEOUS on you. Stunning.

Fun reviews : ) It is great having someone else do them other than just Roxy for a change.

    bisous
    Suzanne

    • Thank you Suzanne! I love that green dress. I am hoping to get it for $75. That might be a pipe dream. I love Roxy’s reviews. I appreciate them so much. They are so helpful. I just figure I might as well take pictures while I am in the dressing room anyway. I am glad you liked them. The set going up on Saturday is not so great. I am trying to figure out how to describe things without being negative.

I hope your Wednesday is rad!

      Jenni

  16. Those elephant shorts! Yay! They are happy shorts ๐Ÿ™‚ They have made my, ahem, shortlist.
Love the Kelly green dress too. But it seems pricey and less wearable.
Thanks a million for your reviews, Jenni!! Much appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Ha! Your shortlist. Too funny! Love it! And thank you about the green dress. It is a cool dress. I would love it with cowboy boots. I am glad you liked the reviews. That makes me so happy! : )

      Have a super week!
