My Valentine’s Day

I love a theme. It’s not that I love Valentine’s Day. Or really, that I even like it. But there is just something wonderful about a day devoted to love. And I absolutely adore when people give into a day and support the theme. In this case, pink or red. I purchased this Free People bright pink caftan and I knew I wanted to wear it specifically for Valentine’s Day. I loved wearing it. It made me feel, oh, so feminine.

I also purchased my husband a tie (clearanced to $10) that matched my dress perfectly. Remember, I love when we match, too.

Double theme. Check. Double nauseating. Check.

I was asked what I wore under this dress. It is extremely low cut, so I paired it with my eyelet bralette. It looks like a pretty supportive tank top.

My honey brought me roses. It is kind of an inside joke. Red roses. I will write about it some time.

My husband and I went out to lunch at our favorite restaurant. They have these fries. These fries. You guys, you have not had fries until you have had these fries. They take three days to make. It is a secret process. I have never had anything like them. You know what I’m craving now.

It was fun to see how different people interpreted Valentine’ Day through their clothing. My favorite was a little old woman in a pink shirt, red pants and flashing lit-up heart pins covering her bodice. It was awesome!

It was a beautiful day.

I had planned on making homemade chicken noodle soup for dinner, but my sweet mom dropped off a homemade chicken pot pie. It was so good. And much appreciated.

And I made these macadamia nut individual brown sugar cakes for dessert.

Did you have a good Valentine’s Day? A good weekend? What did you end up doing? Wearing?

If it wasn’t good, I hope this week is much better for you.

* P.S. I shared this on The Pleated Poppy!

    • Thank you! Gosh! You guys cannot get a break from the snow! It is 75 degrees today and I am stubbornly wearing tights and a heavy cardigan. It is February for goodness sakes! I am in denial.

I hope you are staying warm and cozy! : )

  1. Love that dress! In CT it was freezing and snowing (again!) so we all stayed cozy. I am big on decorating the dining table to the holiday! Cannot even remember what we ate – seem to be doing a lot of cooking recently since we cannot get out with the snow! All in all I know I was with my loved ones so that is what counts!

    • Thank you! I love that you decorated the table. Do you know that never ever occurred to me?! What a great idea! I will definitely want to implement that next year! It is the sweet little things. I am glad you stayed cozy with your family. Gosh, I hope it warms up for you soon!

Thank you for the great idea! I hope your week is warmer and sweet!

  2. wow! you look simply gorgeous! love your outfit! very cool post! love hearing how you and your husband spent the holiday! those fries and that dessert sound awesome! thanks for sharing!

    • Thank you so much Mark. I am glad you liked this post. Those fries are so good. Of course, that meant I had to share a sandwich for lunch and only eat a quarter of it. But definitely worth it!

Thank you again! Have a great week!

  3. You look beautiful! And good call on adding that cami! Maybe you could undo the lining and stitch the dress itself shut? I mean, if there is excess fabric, you could use it to fill in the cracks?

Also, that lady with the heart pins is now my new hero. I wanna be that cool when I get old!

    • Thanks Gwen! I like being able to layer things under this dress. I would not want to permanently alter it. I am so weird about change.

I love that old woman, too! I want to be completely out there when I am older. Anything should go! I love it! : )

Have a great day. Still need to write. Must go make lunches for kids’ lunches tomorrow. So tired!

  4. Beautiful dress! I love a good maxi dress. I would wear them all the time if I could! The fries look amazing. My brother keeps tell me about a place near him where the fries are called ” crack” fries, they are so good. I need to check it out!

We had a low key Vday. I made the boys’ their favorite dinner ( Trader Joe’s Orange Chicken) and Ryan brough home my favorite dish from Pei Wei. Our middle babe was sick, so we just kept it nice and chill. Glad you guys have fun!

    • Thank you Alicia! Oh, I am sorry your son was sick. It seems like this winter has just been so hard with sicknesses. I get so stressed out, because my son has never had an antibiotic he has not had an allergic reaction to. I am terrified of him getting an infection. Being a mom is hard!

Yes, you must try the crack fries! And then I want to hear about them! I love hearing about food. My poor friend just got back from a trip and she was showing me pictures. And I kept asking if she had anymore pictures of food. Weird. : )

      Have a fantastic Friday!

  5. That is the perfect dress for Valentine’s day. Such a pretty color and so romantic. You look beautiful! You belong in an English garden!
We ordered a pizza and watched House of Cards! Not very romantic but super fun!

    • Thank you so much! Okay. House of Cards? I have heard a lot about it. Everyone seems to love it. What do you think? Should we start watching it? And also, have you been watching True Detectives?! It is SO SO SO good! I always thought Matthew McConaughey was not very bright based on his previous silly movies. But lately, WOW! Very impressed. I have a new crush! Brains do it for me. : )

      Have sweet dreams!

      • I loooove House of Cards. It is so well written, has incredible acting and directing, and is just plain thrilling. I would say that you should give it a try!

Sigh… I want to watch True Detectives but have an intolerance to violence. The older I get the more I get upset by it. I wish I wasn’t like this because I am missing out on some great show. Game of Thrones is another one. Freddy has been loving True Detective but says that I would be too sensitive to the violence. My mom is the same way so I am wondering if this is a hereditary thing? I also wonder if it has something to do with my experience at the University of Florida. When I was a senior there we had a serial killer murdering students at the same time Silence of the Lambs and Twin Peaks came out. Fiction became reality and freaked me out for life.

In any case, there is some violence in House of Cards but it’s a little different. If you watch it please let me know what you think of it!

      • How scary about the serial killer?! I would be the same way. I am very protective of my kids on this blog for kind of the same reasoning. I was once stalked and it was terrifying. I will never put them out there like that. There are some really really bad people out there.

Freddy definitely knows you best. It is good of him to tell you not to watch it. I go through periods like that. Where I only read children’s books and watch Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond on t.v. (Actually I do that every night!).

I will definitely check out House of Cards! Thank you for the recommendation! : )

  6. I love that dress. Very romantic and flowy.

My husband and I were driving through the mountains on Valentine’s Day. I wore my Team Canada hockey jersey (it’s red and white, after all). Ha.

    • Thank you so much Liana! I love that you were wearing your jersey! You’re right! Red and white! I only caught the very end of the Olympic Women’s Hockey Game. I was so disappointed in the U.S. Team’s reaction to receiving their silver medals. I bet you were excited about the women’s win! : ).

      Have a terrific Monday!
