In Which I Speak Of Resolutions

Happy New Year!

I celebrated with a toast of NyQuil, because I have been battling a sickness all week. Hopefully this is not how 2014 will continue. I hope your celebration involved something more exciting. Although, I love my NyQuil with a fierce love.

Last year was the first year I actually accomplished all of my resolutions. Pausing for the applause. ; )

Okay. Okay. Settle down.

Or not.

I make three resolutions every year.

Last year they were:

1. Start a blog. Check

2. Keep my weight off. Check

3. Take more pictures (Super easy after accomplishing number 1).

This year my resolutions look like this:

1. Write a book. Oy.

2. Keep my weight off (This will always be a struggle for me).

3. Complete two photo albums of my family (I always mean to and never do).

I am beyond nervous about the first resolution that I have tasked myself with in the coming year. I will not give away what I will be doing, but I have two completely opposite ideas for two completely different books.

And I am nervous. I struggle daily with believing in myself enough to carry on. You should see how many things I delete because I do not want to offend anyone. But life is so very, very short.

I worry I am running out of time.

I love you guys so much. This blog made every resolution of mine possible. It has helped me keep my weight off by making me be accountable by taking outfit pics. It has allowed me to document my life more. And I have some beautiful pictures of my family to account for it. Writing this blog makes me smile every day. And I cannot imagine my life now without it.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to let my creativity fly.

Thank you! Thank you!

I am so excited about this new year.

But Enough! Enough about my goals and worries. That is for another day. Well, not really. I guess they are exactly for today. But enough.

Let’s hear about you. Let it all out. I will even clap for you.

I Promise.

What did you do last night? Did you make any resolutions? Did you do anything fun?

Please tell me you drank something better than NyQuil.

  1. Happy New Year Jenni! Sorry to hear about your illness, I have been the same since the 15th December and on my second course of anti-biotics and various other meds. Yesterday I had enough and had the hottest curry ever and it seems to have helped 🙂

I think you will be able to do a great book. Maybe something housey or handicraft related. I hope to write 2 books this year too but before I can do any of that, I have to re-master the art of breathing first!

    • Thank you Stephen! Happy New Year’s to you, too! And a very happy belated birthday, as well! I hope you had a great day even though you were sick. Your plans for February sound like so much fun.

I am probably going to have to go to the doctor tomorrow. I just can’t seem to shake this. And my home is falling apart around me. I must get better so I can clean it!

Wow! Two books! Now that is a goal! I will be so happy if I can just do one.

Get better! I hope that curry did the trick!

  2. Jenni,
Happy New Year! Thank you for sharing your life through your blog. It makes me smile everyday. Write! Write! Write! That’s what I tell my intro to poetry students. Just like musicians have to practice their scales, writers have to practice their craft. It is clear, through your blog, that you have a very distinct voice in your writing and I know it will shine brilliantly in a work of fiction. Many accomplished people, actors, musicians, political leaders, say they want to write, but writers just write!! They know they have to, and you Jenni, have something to say. Do it! Ignore your inner critic. “Leap and the net will appear.”

    • Thank you Kindra! You are so sweet. Yes, I want to write. And I know the story I want to tell. But it is a bit complicated and so I will be spending much of January figuring it all out.

And I very much hope that what you say is true. That there is a net. But if not. Well, a few bruises never hurt anyone. At least that is what I am telling myself.

Thank you so much for your encouragement! Have a beautiful New Year!

      Jenni

  3. Thank you for sharing a piece of your beautiful soul with us, Jenni. I have no doubt you will accomplish your three resolutions. I have loved every short story you have shared with us.

    Brynne

    • Oh. Brynne, you always are so kind. I very much appreciate it. Tour encouragement helps immensely. I hope you are having a great New Year!

And that your trip was fantastic!

Happy New Year! I am so glad to have met you.

      Jenni

  4. Hope you feel better Jenni! I so enjoy your blog, and I can relate to the same issues about blogging, about doubting myself and what I am doing, making sure (or hoping I guess) that I don’t offend anyone with my sarcastic sense of humor. Keep it up! I really enjoy your posts!

    • Thank you Heather! I have the same sarcastic sense of humor. And sometimes there are whole paragraphs I delete because I am not sure it will come across as funny or as mean. But for the most part, I keep it as it is and just let it go. Although every morning I expect to wake up to someone getting upset. Oh well. It is bound to happen. Although it does break my heart.

I love your blog, too. I love all of your bargains and your ideas on how to make something work or substitute a different similar piece for a more expensive one. Really cool ideas!

      Have a Happy New Year!

      Jenni

    • Oh man! I feel for you! Young kids and being sick is SO much harder. And they are sick, too! Wow! Your hands are full. I hope you all recover soon. I always forget how crazy horrible this time of year can be with sickness until it happens.

Have a speedy recovery! And a Happy New Year!

      Jenni

  5. I’m sorry you have been sick! I haven’t been as regular with updating my blog over the past week because our house has also been filled with sickness. It seems like it’s finally on its way out of here, thank goodness! I hope you feel better soon, too!

Congratulations on achieving all of your goals in 2013; that is HUGE! Your goals for 2014 sound big but definitely conquerable! I can’t wait to hear more details about your book, but I totally understand that you are staying hush-hush about it for now. Writing is such a personal thing that I personally don’t like to put myself out there unless I feel really confident about my work.

    Here’s to an amazing 2014! 🙂

    • Thank you Casey. I am glad the sickness is almost gone. I will probably head to the doctor tomorrow as I am not getting any better.

They are big goals. Is it too late to turn back? ; ). I love your resolution. It was so eloquent. And something we all should be able to do. Hopefully.

Happy New Year to you, too!

      Jenni

  6. Oh I am so happy to hear that you will be writing books. I can’t wait to read them! Woo hoo! Go Jenni!!!

I hope you are feeling better. Being sick is just no fun.

My resolution is to step up my blogging game – to spend more time on the marketing part and do more creatively. Not sure what exactly but I want to figure it out.

Congrats on achieving your resolutions for 2013. I have no doubt you will achieve your 2014 goals.

    xoxo

    • Thank you Cynthia! You are so sweet.

Oooh! I like your goals, too. Yes, marketing. Um. Doesn’t that just happen naturally? If you write it they will come? And all of that. ; ). Good luck to you! I am so bad at anything like that.

I think you are all ready so creative I cannot wait to see what else you come up with.

      Have a Happy New Year!

      Jenni
