Keepin’ It Real December

December is almost over! It was a whirlwind of activity, procrastination and happiness. I am sad to see it end.

Today is my mom’s birthday. Happy Birthday Mom! I love you!

On to the realness:

A piece of lint on my kitchen floor. I think the signs are pointing towards wanting me to go somewhere. Hmmm. But where?

Pajama Party excerpt:

One of my sweet friends insisted on doing some of my dishes by hand. She handed me the wet dish to dry. I have a confession. I hardly ever (and I mean hardly ever) hand wash my dishes. I actually love to do dishes. Load them into the dishwasher. Put them away. I do it at least once a day. But every item goes into the dishwasher. I couldn’t live without it.

So, I dried them with a paper towel. I almost peed my pants laughing when she told me I was supposed to use a dish towel.

She thought I must not have any dish towels. Then I had to show her I had a collection.

She asked me what I use them for. And I said, “to dry my hands.” What a concept: dish towels be used for dishes. I will have to remember that next year when I hand wash a dish again.

It reminded me of the time I was newly married and my mother-in-law came to my house and was shocked to see me cleaning absolutely everything with just Windex.

Housekeeping has never been my strong suit.

Good thing I chose to be a housewife.

I made chocolate bowls for ice cream one night. How do you think I did?

Outfit outtakes.

My dresser in December. Now my whole bedroom looks like this. It was a casualty of Christmas. I hope it can be revived.

Look at what my mom and stepdad gifted me for Christmas on Saturday (we celebrated late with them). It is a necklace I have been wanting for over a year. It is from Knit Knit on Etsy. It is a hand embroidered fox wearing a bow tie!

Thank you guys! I love it!

How was your December? Are you ready for 2014? Or do you feel like I do above (and, yes, that is a giant pimple.)?

  1. Wait a minute… what’s wrong with cleaning with windex? Or maybe I don’t want to know? I can’t tell you how happy I am that you posted a pic of your messy dresser. My closet looks similar and I will clean it up any day now. Maybe tomorrow. Or not. I am looking forward to December being over. We have a ton of work to do this time of year and I will be happy when that is over. Plus, I love the feel of a new start.

    • Thanks Cynthia! I did not have the courage to do the whole room. Although I did end up donating most of the clothes on top of the dresser. But the rest of the room is a nightmare.

Oh! That reminds me! I need to put my sheets in the dryer! I cannot sleep in our sheets another night. No matter how messy my home is, I have to change my sheets every 3-4 days. Last time we changed them was on Christmas Eve. I’m late!

Oh! And Windex is awesome. But the regular kind does not have any antibacterial qualities. I use it for all of my glass cleaning. But not for kitchen countertops or bathrooms. That is what I used to do.

Have a great New Year’s Day!

      And have fun!

  2. You crack me up. Love that you share everything with us.
PS. Pimple? I thought it was a beauty mark and will continue to think so.

    • Thanks Brynne! Ha! Not everything! I did not have the courage to post my bedroom pic. It did get a teeny bit better today, because I donated two piles of clothes.

And, yea, beauty mark. That’s it! Ha! I have a new one right now. These holidays are stressing me out and breaking me out. Good times!

      Happy New Year!

  3. Ahhh, is that the Peony Applique Pullover, Jenni? Even though the photo made me laugh, that sweater is certainly not laughable; it’s gorgeous! 🙂

And I’m with Brynne. I totally thought it was a beauty mark, too, and I’m not just stroking your ego! LOL

    • Yes! I thought of you when I scored it! It is a size large, which I thought might be too big but ended up being perfect. I hope you find one, too!

And thanks about the beauty mark! This darn stressful holiday season! That was a stressful day.

Have a gorgeous New Year! You deserve it!
