Free People Mia Ruffle Dress

Two outfit posts in one week? What is this blog coming to. ; )

Well, tomorrow a post is going up about a charity event I went to two weeks ago. It is run by some of my lovely friends, Kathy and Mark. I wanted to show what I wore, but as hard as I tried, what I wore did not fit into the soul of that post. That post is not about me. I want it to be about the event and the cause. So, I am showing you what I wore today. Because I know my fashion friends would want to know. And I adore this dress. It is Free People’s Mia Ruffle Dress in ecru. I wanted to not ignore it.

There will be some “action” (aka me eating) shots of the dress at the event tomorrow. Please tune in to the post to see them! And to just witness a beautiful night for a beautiful cause.

Here is the dress the way I would have worn it had it not been chilly that evening. I am wearing a medium. I paired it with my Simply Livly Turquoise Necklace. I also wore my vintage Frye cowboy boots. The event was casual. This is me doing evening casual.

But it was chilly. I ended up wearing this citron Free People sweater over it that I purchased at Nordstrom Rack last month (I cannot find it online). My sweet mom had given me a gift card there for no reason other than that she loves me. Isn’t that so lovely? Thank you Mom! Your gift kept me warm and I think it is so pretty!

How do you do evening casual? Please tell.

  1. I loooove this outfit on you. You have a real knack for bohemian style, and you wear it with such grace. I like how you have a neutral dress and boots and accents in bold chartreuse and turquoise. Most of my closet, particularly my dresses, are in bold colors and bright prints, but this is making me rethink the wearability of a great neutral dress that I could then pair with any number of colored sweaters and accessories.

For evening casual, I don’t do “casual” very well. I pretty much live in dresses and skirts with cardis. But I’ll wear ballet flats instead of heels. I’ll wear costume jewelry instead of diamonds and pearls. And I’ll wear something funky with a wild print or bold colors instead of a LBD. And other times…I overdress to make a casual night a fancier, more special one. Who says I can’t wear a poofy tulle skirt and pearls to the local dive bar for a couple of pints, anyways?

    Have a beautiful weekend!

    • Hi Liz!

Thank you so so much! I am with you. Most of my closet is bright and colorful. I have very few neutrals. Well, I have a ton of white dresses. I have a problem. I love them all.

I love all of your outfits. And I agree, you can wear fun items anywhere. I dressed up just to go to a local diner for dinner.

      Enjoy your Sunday!

    • Thanks Lorraine! I have an outfit pic to send you. It is how I styled the Ping skirt last week and I do not know when I am going to post it. I keep meaning to send it to you. I will very soon!

I hope your Sunday is terrific!

  2. You looks so pretty!! absolutely glowing!! (One minor thing…..I often think you could size down in all your clothes. Maybe you’re not completely used to your thinner self? Or maybe you just don’t like to wear anything fitted? I know you like clothes that are flowy but I think they’d look even more amazing on you if you sized down. But to each his/her own!!) And regardless, you still look terrific here.

    • Hi Laura. Thank you for the compliments.

I do think the dress was a tad big. I kept going back and forth on keeping it, but ultimately decided not having to wear spanx won the day. I just love flowy clothes. I do not like things tight fitting. I have noticed in my skirts, I was purchasing a size or two too big, so I have been slowly fixing that. But as far as dresses go, I enjoy the flow.

But I completely appreciate your thoughts and observations. I am always a work in progress, so I need all of the help I can get! : )

I hope your Sunday is beautiful!

    • Thank you so much Lisa! That is very sweet of you. I appreciate. I always love your style!

      Have a wonderful weekend!

    • Hi Winnie! Thank you! I purchased my usual medium and I feel I could have sized down to a small easily. So, I feel it runs big. The reviews online seem to feel it is true to size. So, maybe I am the oddball. ; ). The fabric is very forgiving with the ruffles, so I think it is easy to go with a smaller size.

I hope that helps! Have a gorgeous Sunday!

    • Thank you so much Tatiana! : ) The compliment is very much appreciated. I have been home sick today, so thank you for making me smile!

      Have a great week!

  3. Love love love!!!! Such a creative way to make a frilly dress more wearable. I actually love how you style all your outfits here but I don’t want to be a creepy so I’m keeping the outfit love to this post. <3 So glad I found your blog via WIWW!

    • Thank you so much! You’re funny! : ). I appreciate it. I do not consider myself to be a stylist or a fashionista. I am just a regular girl trying to have fun in this crazy world. So thank you! I am trying! : )

I hope your week is magical!

  4. Breathtaking! I feel like I said this before for another outfit you wore – but you look like a blonde Lady Mary from Downtown Abbey! So beautiful!

    • You are so sweet. You should have seen the getup I tried in today. Oh my gosh! It was so bad! My husband told me I looked like I was wearing a Halloween costume. I tried to pair a black and red flannel tunic with a black lace slip and green tights and a brown belt and brown boots and a giant gold beaded necklace! Wowsers! Thankfully I toned it down. But I just never know what is going to “work.” Thank you for liking this outfit! Yay!

      Have a fabulous Thursday!
